  1. They could've taken an approach of "any tear means surgery", in which case it might have been done last June. It's not that big of a deal (because this team is likely to have at least 2-3 more top 5 picks), but to pretend the front office is above criticism here is disingenuous.
  2. If it was done last June he'd be back by the end of this year.
  3. Unless I'm reading it wrong, this says the recovery timetable can be as short as 9 months.
  4. I'll be happy if any combo of Vaughn, Witt, and Abrams goes top 2. The Sox need Adley Rutschman.
  5. 1) I'll believe Robert stays healthy for a full season when I see it. 2) Robert could have a great year and not make it to MLB until mid-late 2020. 3) Bogaerts is a better player than Anderson. I could also move Tim to 2B, but his athleticism has less value there, and then he's looking at potentially being benched for Madrigal. If I'm making room for Bogaerts, however, Anderson isn't much of a consideration, other than trying to find him a different spot where he can get PT.
  6. Cole on the pitching side, Bogaerts on the hitting side (move Anderson to CF), Sox likely won't get either.
  7. My definition is accurate, not lousy. A fairweather fan is someone who only supports a team when they're good. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but in my opinion it detracts from the experience of watching sports. I enjoy following my team through thick and thin, and the losing seasons just make winning so much sweeter.
  8. Your logic is that you want to root for the other team because they're winning more consistently. That is the definition of fairweather fan.
  9. Thanks for sharing your opinion. Ours obviously differ a great deal.
  10. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, fairweather.
  11. I could believe CF, the only person who has ever legitimately suggested Catcher is Greg, and, well, that's Greg.
  12. "There's a belief it's unlikely to be topped." Who believes that (other than all of SoxTalk, apparently)?
  13. Also makes the Sox 8/250 offer reports seem legit because if the Sox were at 7/175 and the Padres came in with 8/240, it would be over.
  14. Then go talk about that on the Harper thread.
  15. But that extra $4 million per year might pay the key backup catcher for the title run.
  16. What's the current going rate for WAR? $9 million/WAR? Manny has averaged over 5 WAR/162 for his career, but the Sox would be paying him like a 4 WAR (More like 3 WAR toward the back end of the contract) player. How is that too much?
  17. If they weren't willing to go 8/280, this was over a long time ago.
  18. I've heard that too many times this offseason to believe it.
  19. Which happens first: 25,000 posts on this thread, or Manny signs?
  20. Someone in Manny's tax bracket isn't concerned with the per capita data. Illinois's income tax will take much less of his income, and while Cook County property taxes are some of the highest in the country, someone with Manny's wealth can just hire Madigan's property tax appeal firm and get their property taxes unreasonably lowered compared to those around him.
  21. Next year I think I'm going to pretend MLB offseason starts the day after NFL conference championship games. The way the past two offseasons have gone, I don't think I'll miss much.
