  1. Tickets sold does not equal people who are actually at the game.
  2. My friends do a yearly baseball trip, and I've been to a few with them and some on my own. Wrigley The Cell Camden Yards SF (PacBell or whatever it's called) Texas' new one San Diego Arizona Of those, I loved SF. I think Camden and Wrigley are second. Arizona is terrible. San Diego and Texas seem artificial. I would rank The Cell after Wrigley and Camden, but I'd add that when its full or near capacity, it's pretty great. There's not much to do around the The Cell, but 90% of people go to the game and then home, so it's kind of irrelevant. I think Sox fans are just typical Chicago fans. They go when the team is good, and stay away when not. It's no different than Bears, Bulls, Hawks, or Cubs fans. All have plenty of available seats when they're not playing well.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 06:49 AM) other priorities (Read: Family) I understand, but my guess is that she still follows the Sox. Soxtalk is a good source for info - especially when you are busy with family stuff/work/life. So, it would stand to reason that she (and others who leave) check in occasionally. Going from posting 100 times per day to not posting at all is kind of crazy. Almost as crazy as posting 100 times per day in the first place.
  4. I don't understand how someone like Steff, who was omnipresent on Soxtalk, could go cold turkey and stop posting completely. It's not like she petered out, either. She just stopped.
  5. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) Used to be a Marc Silverman fan but getting quite tired of his daily Cubs fellatio session Especially because he (and many others) quit on the Cubs for several seasons. Didn't watch. Didn't go to games, etc. Yet, Sox attendance and lack of fan base loyalty is good for 3-5 shows every year on the radio shows.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) I wouldn't call it embarrassing. You've got Thomas, a Hall of Famer. Baines, who was pretty damn good with 2,866 hits, Konerko the Sox all time career home run leader and Minoso, who it goes without saying is the face of our franchise. I like the list. I'm sure the old, old timers who got overlooked would tip their caps to these four as well. I'm not really sure who the face of the Sox is, but I doubt many would say Minoso.
  7. So, this NHL 2015-16 thread is officially the LDF 2015-16 thread, right?
  8. Maybe I'm naive, but I think race relations in this country might improve some if minorities made an attempt to gain empathy for their plight. Race is definitely a factor in the U.S., but how do Mexicans in this country who feel they are targeted because of their race explain the divisions off wealth and power in Mexico? Is "whitey" responsible? How about in India or China or (fill in he blank)? White people can't be responsible in those countries, too. One of the problems some white people have with minorities is that when the minorities point a finger, they are often pointing at people who are not racist. So, from the perspective of the white person, the attack is unwarranted and the white person may naturally feel defensive. A black person or Hispanic person might look at me with envy because my life must have been so great because I'm white. But, they don't know that my parents are immigrants, and they struggled to find good jobs. They struggled to feed, clothe, and educate my family. I can relate with minorities way more than they might believe, but I and many other white people don't/won't get the chance. Many minorities look at me and other white people with the same prejudice that they claim to abhor.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 27, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) I have no idea how Toronto can allow the goal to stick. Shot coming just as it approaches Crawford a Duck skates by and shoulders his glove as puck whizzes past Crawford on the glove side. The culture of the NHL is interesting regarding bad/missed calls. Unlike every other pro sports league, the players seem to register a quick complaint, and then they move on. They clearly blew that call, though. Crawford's glove was moved by the contact. He had no chance to make a play on the puck as a result.
  10. So, is the long term plan at Espn to have Ben Finfer work with C&J? He's sat in with them several times in the past few weeks. I think he's pretty good at talking sports. I don't know much about him personally, which is usually a good thing with sports talkers. They're generally not as interesting as they think they are.
  11. The NBA would do well to make it an automatic technical for anyone other than a team captain or coach to question calls. As it is, the players look for a foul every time down the court. Its a terrible look for the league. The refs were awful. I think NBA refs are much more inconsistent than any other league. It might just be that Thibs is a classic A->B coach who will burn a team out quickly. (See Doug Collins). If he doesn't win within the first 3 years, the players will get sick of him. His inability to adjust is laughable.
  12. Don't think I've seen the shuffle thread in quite some time. Here goes. Last 6 songs I listened to as I clean up around the house awaiting for the walking, whining and all around goodness of NBA playoff basketballs: A Day in the Life - The Beatles Welcome to Paradise - Green Day The River - Bruce Springsteen Lawyers, Guns and Money - Warren Zevon You're My Best Friend - Queen Drink in My Hand - Eric Church
  13. Whenever I watch basketball, I can't get over the amot of traveling. Not just the Jordanesque extra half step on every drive. The shuffling of feet and changing the pivot foot is what gets me. That, and LeBron takin 2 steps between dribbles.
  14. Hawks are so sloppy with the puck around their own net.
  15. I've bet the triple crown races against my dad every year for 30+ years. It started as a $2/race bet, and it hasn't changed much. We usually each pick 2 horses for this race. If none win, we let it ride. I picked Dortmund and Upstart.
  16. Highly recommend the documentary about Roger Ebert, "Life Itself." Came out last year, but I just saw it last weekend. It's a "warts and all" depiction of him. I was always a Sun-Times/Ebert guy. Pretty rough ending to his life. And I had no idea that Siskel was a stud.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Dude, there's no "bench" filled with several dozen other guys at Mt. Rushmore. You get 4. 4 names. The granite to the side is literally too fractured to add any additional heads. You only get 4. You do not get super-subs. Carl Everett can stand alone like Crazy Horse down the road.
  18. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y20...16358-791823663 I just saw this. Top four players in franchise history will be revealed at the All Star Game.
  19. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Is there any history of GMs coming out and saying something like "of course we're sending his ass down for 12 days. It gets us another year of control." What happens PR-wise in that case? I don't think what Theo did was wrong. I don't Theo needs to come out and say why he did it. The non-Cubs media should be more skeptical, and they haven't been. They have accepted that Theo doesn't bring rookies up for opening day for developmental reasons.
  20. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) "MLB needs trumped all." Uh-huh, Len. If Theo says it, it must be true. Because Theo also said Bryant was sent to AAA, in the first place, for "baseball reasons." Yet here he is, just 2 weeks later, batting cleanup for the big league team in his FIRST GAME. Boy, those AAA coaches sure must be great. Kasper's a complete Theo/Jed fanboy hack. Boring. I can't get mad at cubs fans for being excited. Bryant's a rare talent, but the pass Theo gets for sending him down is ridiculous. I don't disagree with Theo's decision at all, but the idea that Theo doesn't bring rookies north for opening day (or hasn't historically) for developmental reasons is a joke. He did it to buy an extra year of control. Again, I don't think Theo should be criticized for sending Bryant down, but let's not act like it was for developmental reasons.
  21. This is Albert and Bernard King, I know that. Who is Cheryl? I got it, but I wasn't 100% certain that I was correct.
  22. Listening to a podcast of Carmen & Jurko from Monday - they had Jesse Rodgers on to do a Cubs report. His segment and the rest of the hour was sponsored by the Cubs. Now, I know the radio show is entertainment > hard hitting news, but thats kind of ridiculous from a journalistic standpoint.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) You leave me and my Benjamin Button out of this. Although, given my current cooking background, I can assume, after some time, a "handful" turns into a "spoonful," yes? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56397 Post #9 - Shoota knows the score.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) So just walk around with an erection every waking hour of the day? That seems...ok. Thanks, the support of knowing that others are out there really helps. There are a "handful" of ways to change your situation, but based on your profile pic, you might not be old enough for the discussion.
  25. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) James Best. aka Roscoe P Coltrane from Dukes of Hazzard It's crazy that "The Dukes of Hazzard" debuted in 1979. I remember being super excited to watch it. I remember going to my best friend's house to watch it. I remember being in love with Catherine Bach. I was seven. Sometimes I think about just how much I remember from my childhood, and I think part of the reason is that having fewer options for entertainment created a more communal feel to things like TV, movies, and music because we were all consuming the same stuff. Anyway, RIP Rosco. Take a seat at the bar of the big Boar's Nest in the sky.
