  1. WWE wrestler, Chyna, found dead. No cause released. 45 years old. Another wrestler dying too young.
  2. I think the fine, suspension and sensitivity training are all fair and just punishments. Shaw acted like an idiot and lost his composure. To me, what he said is really bad if it was directed at someone who is gay or is thought to be gay. I suspect, though, that it's his ignorant way of emasculating someone. Also bad, but different. Growing up, f** was something kids called each other as a put down. Same as retard. It's not acceptable now, nor should it be. I hope Shaw understands that the player or ref he was yelling at probably doesn't care about what he was yelling (assuming he is not gay). But, a kid at home watching who is gay might be hugely impacted by what he or she was seeing. Back to hockey, I hope the rest of the Hawks can raise their level of effort to that which Shaw brings every time he's on the ice. He never seems to take a shift off.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) Interesting interview with Rafael Palmiero http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/rafael-...moves-on-041816 Good stuff. I've always wondered why he isn't brought up as much as the rest of the steroid guys. Based on his pure numbers, he'd have to be a first ballot guy. Pretty well rounded career. Looking at the photos - man, I loved Will Clark.
  4. Every time the discussion of allowing steroid users into the HOF comes up, people argue that there's already known cheaters (Gaylord Perry) and bad guys (Ty Cobb) in the Hall. I heard an interesting interview on the Score (Rozner & Ostrowski - I think) with the author of a book that refutes almost everything we think we know about Ty Cobb. Link to the author's website http://www.charlesleerhsen.com.
  5. He has CDXX and a marijuana leaf tattooed on his hand. CDXX = 420. Subtle. Probably common knowledge, but I don't follow anything Manziel very closely. I'm sad for the guy not being able to control himself, but he seems like a real dickhead.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 06:54 AM) The only actor I thought didn't do a good job was John Travolta. Everyone else did out of the park jobs at their roles. It was either terrible or great. I can't decide. It kind of grew on me.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 07:36 AM) So the People vs OJ Simpson was worth a watch. It got a little corny at times, but there was so much of the personal interaction stuff I knew nothing about. I did everything I could NOT to follow the trial when it was going on. I started a new job the day before the murders took place. My office was 90% black, and the portrayal of the racial divisiveness in this trial was spot on. It was so uncomfortable at work when people would start talking about the trial that I actively avoided it as much as possible just so I could stay out of the conversations. My work environment during the trial was just like the jury room portrayed at the end of the series. I think they did a great job with the show. It was at once corny and masterful. Cochrane, Darden and Clark were great. And Cuba Gooding was really good, especially the scenes where he did nothing but look sad and tired.
  8. Keeping my list to guys I remember playing, and only players I actually liked. 3 - Harold Baines 5 - Juan Uribe 7 - Steve Sax 8 - Bo Jackson 10 - Alexei Ramirez 11 - Rudy Law 12 - A.J. Pierzynski 13 - Ozzie Guillen 14 - Paul Konerko 15 - Tadahito Iguchi 16 - Julio Cruz 19 - Greg Luzinski 20 - Jon Garland 22 - Scott Podsednik 23 - Robin Ventura 24 -'Floyd Bannister 25 - Jim Thome (serious consideration to Sammy Sosa here -I was not happy when he was traded) 26 - Orlando Hernandez 27 - Greg Hibbard 29 - Jack McDowell (Greg Walker is a distant second - two of my all time favorites) 30 - Magglio Ordonez 31 - La Marr Hoyt 32 - Alex Fernandez 33 - Aaron Rowand 34 - Richard Dotson 35 - Frank Thomas 37 - Bobby Thigpen 40 - Britt Burns 42 - Ron Kittle 44 - Tom Paciorek (slight nod over Chet Lemon & I'll always appreciate Jake Peavy) 45 - Bobby Jenks 46 - Jason Bere 49 - Chris Sale 50 - John Danks (makes it on the basis of one game) 52 - Jose Contreras 53 - Dennis Lamp 55 - Carlos Rodon 56 - Mark Buehrle 62 - Jose Quintana 72 - Carlton Fisk 79'- Jose Abreu
  9. This might take a little work. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teams/base...mbers.php?t=CHA I'll start with Fisk being my favorite #72.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) Nope. It sounds like he will still be in a platoon, just with La Stella instead. Bryant can play the OF with La Stella at 3rd. I'm sure Bryant can't wait to get out there after seeing what happened to Schwarber.
  11. QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) I was in the 4th row directly in front of where Keith slashed Coyle. I was looking right at Keith's face when he was on his back, and he was f***ing PISSED. You could see the whole thing happening in slow motion, it was weird. To me it looked like Coyle took Keith down clean (left hand straight to the chest) On the video, it looks like Coyle had his stick behind Keith's legs and pushed his chest and pulled up the stick at the same time. Cheap, dirty move by Keith, though.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 05:01 AM) He's really let himself go. Manny being Manny.
  13. He also avoids being in the same class with Adam LaRoche. Crafty veteran indeed.
  14. Just like I doubt all the Sox players were ok with LaRoche having his son in the clubhouse every day, there has to be Cubs who just roll their eyes when Maddon brings in a clown or mime for everyone to pet.
  15. Nobody has posted in the Cubs catch-all since this story broke.
  16. It wouldn't be the worst thing if this all ended with LaRoche retired, KW sent packing, and $13M for Hahn & Co. to spend on someone else.
  17. Not generally a huge fan of Kenny Williams, but I agree 100% with him on this. He said the kid is welcome, just not every day. Like KW said, even half the time is too much, but it's a starting point. LaRoche is a baby. What if one of the guys brought his daughter to shag flies, and she was pretty good. So, she comes the next day. Then she's in the locker room. What's the cutoff? How much is too much? What is off limits? Would guys be happy about a fourteen year old girl hanging around the locker room?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) I hope Arrieta gets everything he asks for, and more. Me too. It's funny to hear Bruce Levine talk about Arrieta's demands. Levine basically says that Arrieta's should be happy with a 4/$80M deal because that's a lot of money for anyone. Of course, Levine is a Cubs fan, and that protects the Cubs in the event that last year was an aberration. I don't disagree with Levine, but his reports are always slanted in favor of his Cubbie-dom.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) 88 wins and the team is in the race until the final week. The key will be the first month of the season. They need a fast start. After the Orioles series they need to be 15-9 possible 14-10. If this season starts iff crappy, I just don't see it turning around. Tex & Middle Buffalo - more proof that great minds really do think alike. By the way, I'm pretty sure that's the avatar Tex had when I joined SoxTalk in 2005.
  20. I'll say 88. I'd be more surprised if they're bad this season than if they're good. Last year, it seemed like nobody hit, especially early in the season. Hopefully they can hit early and not waste a bunch of good starts like they always seem to do early in the season.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 04:38 AM) What job can you have and be allowed an opinion? Op-ed writer.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 06:06 AM) Well, they could have not given him her room number, and then given him the room next to hers. I think he got the room number by getting connected to her room from a house phone that displayed the room number when connected. Then he requested the room next to her. I'm not saying the Marriott is devoid of guilt or negligence, but is it $55M worth? Did she actually suffer $55M worth of damage? I actually have personal experience with a neighbor stalking my family, and it is not a good feeling. I won't bore with all the details, but my neighbor made it a point to be in our lives over a number of years. It was unavoidable because our kids were basically the same age, so we'd see him at sporting events, school, etc. It made so much of our lives less enjoyable. We eventually had to get an injunction against him because it really affected my wife when he was around. And, he was relentless. Even after the injunction, he always pushed it to the threshold of harassment. Finally, we just decided to move - losing a sizable amount of money in the process. So, I truly feel bad for Andrews. I understand that she won't be comfortable in certain places for a long time, maybe never. Sometimes, though, I have a hard time wrapping my head around large damage settlements.
  23. $55 Million for Erin Andrews from Marriott in her stalking case seem like a little too much to me. I feel bad for her, but I don't think she had $55M worth of damage done to her. I also don't see what Marriott could have done to stop it from happening. Andrews is the victim. Her stalker is the perpetrator. So, how is the hotel on the hook for $55M?
  24. I go to ESPN Chicago to read about Chicago sports. Every other story or tweet on the homepage is from Jesse Rogers about the Cubs. The Sox are covered by the Associated Press. Nice.
  25. Other than going to a game, there was literally no way for me to see a Hawks game until I was a Sophmore in high school. That's when we got cable tv. And even then, I don't think they were available without paying a premium for it. So, I'm a bandwagon fan of the Hawks for sure, but not one in general. I've lived in AZ for the Warner Cardinals, Nash Suns & last year's Cards, and I never went out of my way to watch any of it. Had the Hawks been available to me as a kid, I would have been a fan. Don't underestimate the impact of Bill Wirtz. Reinsdorf/einhorn made a similar mistake with their tv moves.
