In addition to Delgado's salary, the Mets must fulfill a provision in his contract that provides for state tax equalization. Delgado received $4 million last season and is owed $13.5 million in 2006, $14.5 million in 2007 and $16 million in 2008. His contract contains a club option for 2009 at $12 million with a $4 million buyout but it could become guaranteed at $16 million depending on how he finishes in MVP voting and whether he wins postseason MVP awards.

That guy on the Score was talking about this during the drive in today. They were thinking that Frank would be willing to take less to stay with a contender & his $10M (or what his contract is at now) will be available to sign Paulie. They were also talking about some money being available if Everett is not back.

I heard a funny take on the radio. The Sox are actually losing on purpose in order to secure the wildcard. The reason behind this is b/c the past few World Series Champions have come through via the wildcard. Not a bad idea...at least it explains the losing.

I mentioned in another thread that I heard that Piazza was expected to be put through waivers. Does anyone know the status of his contract?

I don't like the position that we're a shoe-in for the WS. I think it was the first game of this series that they both were talking about us in the WS.
