Royals @ White Sox 7:11pm WCIU-HD
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) with all the crappy losses this season to choose from, for some reason I'm still fuming about yesterday's. I would demote Jenks immediately and tell Rios don't even bother to suit up. Throw a video tribute up there for JD and say so long, thanks for the memories. f*** it. I want Rios to get this out of his system, have as many at-bats at possible where you are horrendous and then regroup for next year. Sitting him, to me, improves nothing--playing him, hey maybe there's a chance he figures something out in advance of next year. It probably wont matter that much but it's at least something. Jenks, on the other hand, i might want to sit so i can preserve his stats. Right now he has some semblance of trade value. His stats are still deceptive to an extent. He has a WHIP comparable to or better than all these: Papelbon, FRod, Fuentes, Rodney, Cordero, Brian Wilson. K rate is about on par with being a generic closer, Save rate is a notch or two below generic. If we can get a decent prospect for Contreras then a good one might still be possible for Jenks.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY FOR 2010
I've wanted Thornton as closer for awhile now. My preseason scenario where I wanted Jenks traded was scoffed at...but we saw this coming and now his value is a step down. All that said, back then we had more LHP to rely on. So I think Thornton, at least as things stand, needs to remain a setup guy. More and more, I think Kenny might overhaul the pen. Decline Dotel, trade Jenks. Then there'd be cash to spend on the bullpen....b/c without those two really it's just Liney that's making big money.

The Sox on September 18, 2009

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) This is a much better team right now than its record says. And it will be even better soon. I can buy the defense improving. Alexei, Gordon and obviously OF looks better now. But we need an OBP jolt big time. If CQ has another so-so year the team goes nowhere. It was a rebound year from PK, a career year from AJP, Pods .....Thome was about his usual...all that and the offense still didnt get it done. The lineup needs upgrading- Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
This is horrible. Bobby Jenks is awful and i want tthis season to just be done alreadyyyyy We all saw the writing on the wall but few here supported a Jenks trade before this year. Those who brought it up were mercilessly mocked- Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
pena has a heavy ball- Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
I dont remember seeing two halves in such stark contrast as Jermaine's- Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
another Kotsay RBI but in truth that one we give to Gordon who didnt stop hustling on what looked like a routine ground out- Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
Rios at least works the at-bat. but Ks- Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
RBI single, thrown out at second- Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
Kotsay is king!- Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
Rios always seems to take one right down the middle on 0-1- 2009 AL Central Thread
Gotta love the Royals giving their all lately. Now if only we could have beaten a few more teams earlier in the year so we couldve withstood this tough stretch. Under that scenario, we actually wouldntve been so crushed after that trip.- Justin Morneau done for the rest of the year
I almost dont want the Twins to be hurt right now. To advance, we need the Twins to beat the Tigers up. I know we have to face Twins too, but it wil be at home and our lefties ideally would be lined up somewhat to face Minn anyway.- Has a KW mid-season move backfired more than Rios?
It's been 90 bad at-bats. Too early to tell. If we never forgave Paulie's super-long slumps, we may not have a ring right now. And a bad 90 at-bats is something I can swallow if its a huge defensive upgrade, at a key defensive position, which it is. In '08 Rios had 47 doubles, 8 triples and 15 homers. If we get that from him in '10, it's like adding a lower-OBP-Markakis. I'm not judging KW yet.- '05 World Series TV ratings
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 12:35 AM) I couldn't care less if we aren't a popular team,if I wanted to root for a team based soley on popularity,I woulda been a Yanks fan long ago... I couldn't give a flying f*** if the Cubs are more popular,I would've shot myself long ago after all these years of futility, they haven't even won a game the last 2 playoffs series even though they were heavily favored In theory, I agree. But in reality, more Sox fans means more $ going towards our payroll. These things go in cycles. If the Cubs are ready for a new several-years lull in onfield play, it could open the doors for the Sox to take a chunk of that market from them. We have their former (well-liked) announcer, a young team, respected starting pitchers, an entertaining mgr, Obama..... It may not seem like it to us, but these last years of piling up wins will have an effect on what we can do in the future. Kids are growing up right now only knowing the Sox as the Chicago team that wins/has won. Soon they'll spend money and bring their own kids to games, etc.- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
Pathetic.- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
QUOTE (bobryansson @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 11:46 PM) I'm grasping here, but it was nice to see Alex Rios smile and laugh with a teamate. No, I think we all thought that.- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
They're praising Cox. A blind man wouldve put up that stop sign.- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
Alexei is going to be such a valuable bat for this infield when we get everything going. Really worked on taking walks this year. People give these simplistic answers about him not being used to the cold early on. Isnt it possible he just worked real hard early in the year to totally revamp his plate patience? He has changed things completely from last year, in my view.- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) Very true. Oz keeps it fun. I haven't followed Sweet Lou. What's he been up to? Has he been critical or something of management? Some recent quotes from him indicated something along the lines of 'i wont quit, theyd have to ask me to leave' So some are reading that as him wanting the last year of that contract. With new owners coming in, maybe it happens.- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) Oz talking to Griffey; he's one of a kind. No managers have the personality of Ozzie. Most are PR machines. He is awesome. When we lose here, it's at least not joyless. Cubbies mgr. is just slow-talking his way to a firing or (he hopes) buyout.- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
Jr. could not catch up to LH gas last year...- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
Have to love Oz talking to Junior as he goes out to the mound.- White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
Look ma! An out on a routine play! - Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT
