I mean, even when you rely on a guy to not get injured, you're still making the type of leap of faith move that paid off for us in 2005, w/ Pods, Gooch etc. So in short, to win, you need a few of those to work out, no matter who you are and what your payroll is.

If we're talking about 4 and 5 starters, and if yu hated Javy Vazquez last year..then you really cant have tons of problems with this possibility.

Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)
Princess Dye replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) Looks like the Freddy rumor is heating up again. According to Scot Gregor of the Chicago Daily Herald, Freddy Garcia is "strongly considering returning to the White Sox." Gregor says we shouldn't be surprised to see Garcia sign a deal similar to Bartolo Colon's within the next couple days. When Kenny Williams was asked if his rotation's set, he said "we'll see," which Gregor believes is "code for no." Out of these guys and Contreras we'll cobble together some pitching. I am fine with Richard out of the bullpen, I think he strengthens us there, had some good postseason experiences. Like Buehrle in '00 out of the pen. -
What i want to know is what the heck happens if Owens gets hurt? Wise? I still dont see a #1 or #2 hitter!!!! aaaaah I really have to believe that a move is coming up. KW wouldnt really go into a year this thin at several positions.

Just turned it on, did i miss Sox yet?

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) I would have much preferred if we signed Freddy. We've shared more memories with Freddy and he's obviously in better shape. Thats exactly the sort of thing that we would pounce all over a GM for bringing into his selection process of a FA.
-
We were in a tough spot with that PK signing, but it's not like we had a choice really at that point. If you're not going to be a giganto payroll team every single year, then you've got to keep your slugger when his deal comes up.
-
I'm for anything that can keep Richard in the bullpen. At least by the time Contreras is ready.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) Not really considering Javy threw more innings last year than Colon has in the past 3 combined Well last year he was apparently ready to go for more, but it was the wealth of pitching BoSox already have in the rotation that forced him out. And then apparently he let himself get fined b/c he lost enthusiasm about being with their team. That part's troubling.
-
If Colon does what he did last year at all, there are far worse options for back of the rotation than this. With him, as all players, we can only evaluate on that as opposed to potential for injury.
-
No one get too mad about this. If you want the team to spend more, fine - but as far as low risk high reward, i think every successful team needs a few of those to pan out. and this is one.

Something, maybe not this, is happening soon for Sox. I dont see them going young at ALL those positions.

Baseball America White Sox Top 10 Prospects
Princess Dye replied to Fantl916's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) 2009: 1. Gordon Beckham, ss 2. Dayan Viciedo, 3b 3. Aaron Poreda, lhp 4. Tyler Flowers, c 5. Clayton Richard, lhp 6. Brandon Allen, 1b 7. Jordan Danks, of 8. Brent Lillibridge, ss 9. Chris Getz, 2b/ss/of 10. John Shelby, of Sure would be nice if all these guys would work out, and then we can just use FA dollars on pitching. EDIT: Man, even if that worked out we'd still need a leadoff hitter and/or cf. -
Even though they're not really directly comparable as players, this contract makes me wonder if Orlando Hudson's price is going to drop significantly. Even though i know he is not to be discussed anymore.

Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed
Princess Dye replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Of course above all that, I think the Orioles blew it and now cant get great offers for Roberts. So you have to let that play out if you can. -

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 11:52 PM) 1. Roberts 2b 2. Becks SS 3. TCQ RF 4. Thome DH 5. Kong 1b 6. Abreu LF 7. Lexi CF 8. AJP C 9. Fields 3b Real nice to me. Even if it's Dye instead of Abreu. I think you do that and then hope a pitcher or two steps up. That's how weak the division is. Pitcher performances are volatile but once you have top of the order all set, you eliminate a lot of net team-volatility. -
Also i guess i cant change thread title, but if someone wants to change it to Sportscenter 5pm CST Sox report then maybe it'll be of use as is, it's pretty useless since i didnt realize it wasnt ESPNEWS. or NNEWS orwhatever.

What Happened to Pursuing Orlando Hudson?
Princess Dye replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hudson was the guy I wanted this offseason, but I guess if yr gonna make an expenditure next offseason... do it for the right name at the right position. Which means sure fire cf/leadoff and he should be in cohort with the guys in their prime ages. Others got to this realization already but I'm just now there. -
For our "hot stove report" they should play a recorded chorus of cricket sounds.
