  1. Also I made this point in another thread, but Thornton should close games for us next year if we can get lefties. He's the best bullpen arm we have, period.
  2. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Wise should start every from now until he shows he can't. When dudes hot, hes hot, gotta give it up for him! He's been consistent w/ the bat all year. His avg got up and stayed up. Just not given opportunities.
  3. I want Wise taking atbats from Swisher b/c Wise can get a bat on the ball, whereas Swisher's strong suit of taking walks isnt happening this year. Plus defense and speed provided as well. Sometimes is just your year and much like Pods he has put together his best pro year after 10 yrs of mostly minor league play. Some just learn to hit late.
  4. MY MAN get this man a spot in the lineup. Absolutely what our lineup has needed!!! gets a bat on a ball, runs well.
  5. Not fair, they wont pan back to those kids when their team is done later on. Never do, wish they would.
  6. Dammit. You need a perfect bullpen for postseason play. We would really have to overwork our best people.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 09:29 PM) Tomorrow will be a bunch of Z talk. The rest of the week will be Bears. I guess, but for some reason i cant picture talking that much about a no-hitter. The Bears game is interesting and can be dissected. A no-hitter is just kind of asked and answered.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) It's no big deal. Floyd was around that pitch total too for his no-no bids Yea but with Z the injuries
  9. 110 pitches. it's going to be so hilarious if chasing this NoNo trickles down to them not having an ace at ace quality for the postseason
  10. QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) I absolutely hate Ken Griffey Jr's presence on this team. There is no universe where he should be in CF when Anderson is in the game. Milf Pappas ? i'm 13
  11. This is really irritating, but if he doesnt get it i'll be glad to have witnessed.
  12. Also what do people here use for a Bears message board (besides this) ? The only one i'm on is so gigantically populated w/ people that threads get to page 3 immediately
  13. To anyone who has been watching Packers games... does it look like the Bears defense has been more dominating than either side of the ball for them?
  14. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) I don't know about it. Hawk and Stone both have some pretty big egos. Hawk is also the ultimate company man and is close with Reinsdorf. Stone calls it likes he sees it and is not afraid of challenging players or management. I can see this resulting in a tremendous blow up on camera and in the papers. You say you dont know how you feel about it ...You are listing awesome things, however. Also this may sound kind of silly, but I know Cubs fans who just flipping around would keep the TV on a Sox game just to hear Stone's voice. Lot of Cubs fans still like him. Higher ratings=more ad $, and then more $ that JR is willing to spend on players.
  15. I hate to say this but the reason the announcement is now is the same reason Sarah Palin had her first one on one interview right now... hurricane taking people's minds off things somewhat, shoulders the blow (in her case for her slipups that happened in said interview)
  16. I want Hawk and Stone to argue politics at some point.
  17. This will probably differ from a lot what people did post and will post, but I actually preferred early DJ, where he was taking Hawk to task on his outdated sayings. If anything I think that pushed Hawk to start making new ones (not that those are particularly hilarious either, but at least are a change of pace) Otherwise, I echo what others have said: DJ seems like a nice guy but a tier down as far as broadcasting ability. I actually think he was a lot better in Fox games way back when, when paired with a different guy. It got less lax and jokey, and we saw him take the reins a little better.
  18. i wonder if there will ever be baseball again
  19. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 11:42 PM) Why can't Bobby be part of that "re-tooling"? Why do you get rid of what a majority of teams are in desperate need of? The position is based out of a belief that the real Jenks is that higher ERA we saw the last two years, and that this year he has been the beneficiary of luck more than lights out stuff. And the fact he does give up hits pretty regularly (and does not K people) back some of that up. Again, he's still very good, but he probably has higher value than anyone else we'd consider trading, and the monetary cost to keep him will keep rising. So now's peak time, if we want to consider it. The team needs OBP next year to be a title contender. A trade may be the way to get it unless maybe Hudson as FA. If they dont get OBP they'll be like this year but a little older and worse. I assume a trade wont happen however. Also regarding the bullpen - Jenks out Poreda in. Setups: Liney, Dotel, Closer: Thornton...Poreda as heir apparent. I would do all this to hem up the top of the batting order which is a gaping hole. I dont want to run Jenks out, again, but I value top of the order hitting more, and the FA market doesnt seem like it provides enough. And the window is closing with our older run producers.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Yeah, Thorndog has never given up a hit/run in a big situation or a big HR late in the game. So your option is to trade on of the better closers in the game and move thorton there....and then what? Bring up the Booner to get out tough lefties? Maybe we can get Cotts and Ardsama back too. Well Thornton has never been a guy who is way worse against righties though. The SLG is a bit high against righties, i will say that. OBP near the same for R and L batters Also righties SLG is higher against Jenks than Thornton, for whatever its worth. Everyone keeps arguing this about how good Bobby is. I dont disagree w/ that. But no one is addressing my point that he would have so much trade value that he'd allow us to retool. Instead we'll just get older, when we should be building more around youngsters CQ,ARam,Gavin,Danks. To win now and later. Who else do we move, unless it's all to be solved with FA spending?
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) Exactly! Then Dotel can close games out for us!!1 It's time to acknowledge Thornton as the best guy in this pen, and I wouldnt putting him at the top of a short list of in house potential closer candidates. This isnt knee jerk b/c i have past posts suggesting a Jenks move. You get good value for this guy while he comes off a year like this w/ great ERA but poor K stats. And if we dont get value thru this, I dont know how else we'd do it thru trade. I suppose Dye would be a possibility but i think he's too much to give up for what we'd get back.
  22. Move Jenks and Thome to a contender to start retooling this thing w/ someone young and contributing. Those are two guys who are not bad players now but will drop off a table and become so in no time.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) This is unbelievable. jenks pitching like he's already in that coffin in yr av
  24. If Hawk entered a room alone with "Doc" and Gomez, I wonder if he would leave it still married.
