Thome not going anywhere after this year

I'm glad this got bumped, personally. I wasnt aware about it, and it will be pretty important if we're not in contention later on, or if he misses time due to injury and then cuts it close at-bat wise later in the year. there are a couple scenarios and reasons for why this is notable. -
ya seriously what is Dotel doing on that throw
-
again the physical gifts of Uribe make a big play happen. pretty much all arm was that throw and again Toby blocks the plate

whoa now whoa awesome

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ May 9, 2008 -> 11:29 PM) Q reminds me of Chief in One Flew the Cuckoo's Nest former WWF wrestler Tatanka, while we're at it. -

appreciating Uribe's defensive solidness right about now -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 1, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Grady Sizemore's career slugging percentage is .486. Curtis Granderson's is .501. No, asking for a .400 SLG% is like asking for Owens to be more like Brian Roberts, who's at .411 career wise. .315 is absolutely unacceptable. these are some good comparisons. I might add that Pods in 2005 was a .349 SLG.... i guess most people here would say i have some lowered expectations, but I think this team could badly use someone who is even a little worse than the '05 Pods; by no means an excellent leadoff hitter, but someone to get bigger things going. It could be JO, but at this rate he'll be 28 before we find out.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 1, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) Actually few would support that. He's a slap hitting 4th OF'er, injecting a nook logan or a Joey Gathright into this lineup isnt going to do anything positive to the lineup. it really sucks to defend owens in a thread where the lead article is so blatantly unhinged that said, when i say 'owens at his peak' i'm looking at the last month of last year. we could use that. plain and simple. we dont know if he can keep that going for a full year, but thats why they play the games. if his peak is what we saw, i want that. i dont think there's anything wrong with wanting Quentin and Owens to both play. what good is Quentin's power when it's always solo jack city? as far as Owens' slap hitting, if he can steal 2nd at a high rate, i am fine with the slap shots.
-
Jerry Owens being as absolutely good as he can be -- at what he does best -- would be exactly what this team needs. few would dispute that. This said, you cant lose Quentin. If there was a way of getting JO here, I would want to try it. But there doesnt seem to be. I'm sure Thome's back will oblige and let us experiment for a week at some point. Or maybe Paulie just never gets back to former form.

QUOTE (frankie5angels @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) Who's joking. Have you seem this teams offense lately?? I have no confidence in this team's offense whatsoever. NONE. ZERO.ZILCH. it's baseball. a lot of things went right early in the year, a lot of things are going wrong now. point blank, if the middle of the lineup returns to its usual form, things are going to get better. if they dont, it wont. but we're not an ozzie ball team, we're a team that's going decapitate people with a boatload of HRs and hopefully some good pitching. that will either lead to a championship or it will not.
