  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) Wow, Thome and Konerko are killing this team right now. We're going to head into a phase where some people on this board are going to want Swisher at 1b and Owens in CF. It will at first be called the dumbest idea on earth, and then eventually (maybe not immediately).... one of Paul/Jim will be declared done and those people will not seem so dumb. I have saved us the need to watch all these games. Hey if we get Anderson in, with Swisher at 1b, we can have a 1b leadoff hitter.
  2. semi-lol to crede/uribe haters (no i'm not including all people who wanted trades in that group, b/c that would in part include me)
  3. it's sad that i even run it past my mind that AJ might hate him for some reason and not catch it on purpose. i'm aware that's pretty pathetic of me but hey it's AJ.
  4. A big part of this is... can Alexei be a capable CF backup? Like to the point of being a dependable late inning replacement? We've seen a good arm from him, but will have to study what kind of angle he takes on balls. How much CF has he played in Cuba? If Alexei can handle that, no more Brian and Quentin can stay and platoon(at the very least). Remember that Jerry has value being up here as a pinch runner too.
  5. If we keep winning with Quentin being a part of it, Swisher getting on base and handling CF.... I have to think lineup has to keep being Swish at the top and Quentin at LF. Now, Owens could come up here for Ramirez...but there'd be no point in doing that to your IF depth. I suppose he could come up here for BA, but he wouldnt be playing regularly anyway. So why have him up? keep BA as the defensive replacement. I like Owens, but I dont think he can come up unless something goes wrong. My question to all: can Owens be up here if he's not going to be an everyday guy?
  6. QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) What did he do? I can't see. Renteria was slow in getting back to first after a deep fly out. Quentin got him out at 1st on a laser beam throw to PK.
  7. amazing. maybe we should just want him in LF not just cause of the bat
  8. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) The sooner Ozzie figures out two things, the better the Sox will be: 2. Nick Swisher is not a center fielder. Quentin has too much potential to let sit though.
  9. Is anyone gonna post who was against this trade at the onset? I remember it being pretty darn unpopular here. I knew little about Danks at the onset, but I remember being a little tired of Brandon's seeming lack of moxie.
  10. OK who's changing their vote on the McCarthy for Danks/Masset trade Very aware one game each is no sample size, but then again we wont have a game from Brandon to compare to. for weeks
  11. QUOTE(Phil McKrevice @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Don't push it. I'll give you the first three, but Uribe is a stretch. gawd, i'm as sick of Uribe as most, but lets not discredit a guy whose contribution is the difference in a win and a tie.
  12. I dont care how impulsive it seems: CQ !!!! bring on CQ. Alexei will have a short stint in that everyday situation. I hope i'm wrong.
  13. QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 11:27 PM) Ozzie seems to prefer players of his native tongue when they're an option vs. those not of said tonguage, I'm not one bit surprise by this or Alexei out ther over BA this may well be the case, but i'm not exactly yearnin to have one Brian Anderson be the reverse Jackie Robinson for this white plight.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) And around April 7th, they will rather have a guy in the lineup that can run fast over a talented guy like Quentin. We will also start Thome on Monday who is what 0-11 with 7k's life time against CC. Some of these decisions are head scratchers. well, are we to never play Jim Thome against CC? Then he'll never get hit #1.
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) See, they don't have to make sense at all. It's all about the options remaining, less about Spring results. Masset hasnt even been solid at AAA ever. Even if he's out of options...what are we holding onto? Fault the logic of going for it this year, but if the team has decided that, they should really do it. Not go halfway
  16. QUOTE(max power @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) There weren't any good #3s on the market this year is a better reason. Teams that spend that much have a #4 or a two that can step up and be #3 quality. Not at all a Kenny hater. And i dont hate the Garland trade for what it was. But I do dislike the fact that we traded Garland and ignored the need to fully replace him. If you're going to go for it this year, go all the way. Dont half and half it. 3-4-5 is too much a question mark right now.
  17. How in those $118 Million are we not able to find a #3 starter. oof.
  18. I dont understand the dump MacDougal train. The chance that he had injury-related problems last year, and now he's healed..... that is worth keeping him and seeing. If it was a one year aberration, then you have a really good pen. If he's really finished, and we find that out, then he was no worse than the current option Masset presents. If they're both this bad, Ohka should be up in a few months anyway.
  19. didnt realize... masset has never really done all that well at AAA, let alone the MLB level.
  20. You dont keep Masset just because he's best suited for long relief. He has to give you something more than that. If that's all that matters, bring back Ohka. Or sign someone. But since they're both 25,26... go with the one that has proven some level of reliability since being at the MLB level. Wasserman has been arguably the most uplifting bullpen guy from last year and has to be on the team. EDIT: to be horribly honest, long relief, if not handled by MacDougal....is going to largely be one of these three guys who falters... Dotel, Linebrink, Thornton. Scary but plausible.
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) So true.. he is one of the worst hitters I've seen in my few years watching baseball. Although, wasn't Ozzie also one of the worst? I remember reading a list somewhere that had him in the lower 25 of hitters all-time (along with Uribe). Maybe Ozzie feels for him... The thing is, fans are known for getting emotional about the underachieving guy that's been around for awhile, and hating him a little extra for that. And wanting him out sooner in favor of lesser options. I mean, someone else suggested Marcus Giles, and I'll personally take the pop in Uribe's bat over that. He underachieved when we won the title, which leads me to think that we're going to win or not win this year as a result of something having little to do with Uribe in particular.
  22. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) No, I think Richar would have been the front-runner. I'm just saying once Ozzie gets in a certain mind-state, he doesn't change it. If hes going to go with Uribe, he's going to stick with Uribe. Just like he stuck with Mack in CF, Widger at C, etc. etc. etc. Gotcha. You have some history to back you up on that, no doubt. I think one thing that unites us as humans, however, is the ability to tire of Juan Uribe at bats. And Ozzie is only human.
