  1. Furthermore, can we classify Quentin as "can play center in a pinch" ?
  2. How important is it that BA is our best fielding OF, and maybe one true CF? To me, I'm thinking that they bring Swisher here PLANNING for him to share CF duties with Owens. Planning - to give Owens every chance for that. What that says to me is AAA for Brian and Quentin is up here to see if he can make that jump. He's never had the chance to do so with the extended ML time that Brian has had. From everything we hear, Quentin projects to being a more MLB ready hitter than BA. How much does Ozzie weigh in the defensive capabilities of Anderson? My thinking is, you dont need the CF on the bench, b/c Swisher or Owens is always going to be out there. Barring Thome injury (and obviously NS's own days off), Swisher is always going to be one of the outfielders. So he can be all the backup CF we need.
  3. Do we want a trade just to rid ourselves of this worry? There's nothing wrong with sending people to AAA. They can come back. Thome will find a way to get hurt, and we'll eventually need Quentin up (or whoever it is) to fill in for Swish when he's at 1st or dh.
  4. Have to find out what is his best position Develop him at AAA for that position UNLESS - you figure out early he's simply not solid defensively, and wont be, and then in that case...consider him as a super-sub even in the present. If his ceiling is a better hitting Ozuna, figure on him being a sub going onward...and maybe he gets time the second half of the year to be a starter, but if so it's gravy. I mean.... all this is tough to say considering how bad Uribe can be.... but i flipflop because i forget that it is Richar's turn, once he's healthy. And that's not a turn that hasnt been earned, by the way. He's projecting to be a decent hitter and good fielder, from what we've seen.
  5. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) Bourgeois wont make the team. He is a Pablo clone with a little more power. I dont disagree with your prediction, but reading the above... i cant help think this is even further a justification to put him on the 08 squad. Pablo's no spring chicken
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Here is the problem. For some reason, there is a group that holds Crede and Fields in the same group value wise, which is far from the case. On the open market, Fields>>>>>>Crede, maybe with a few more >> Exactly, it's time to come to the reality that no team should have much reason for wanting Crede. He's no youngster and he's shown nothing with the bat lately. All that makes his defense a luxury most teams are going to do without. On TOP of all that, his contract status.
  7. who had the error that helped bring on these unearned runs?
  8. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws judging from this, from the Sox site, there's no chance for him?
  9. obviously i'm no expert on Ramirez or his hitting, i dont know who is at this point. but IF he's a contact hitter, we need that. more than what Uribe is gonna be, which is his usual hackaway self. again, the other options at 2b leave us little reason to look away so quickly. For these reasons, I'd even wish Ozuna at 2b over Uribe. Do others feel, like me, that 2b has been Ozuna's least crappy position defensively?
  10. QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) Umm... what? Link Ohno
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) Well, I would ask why all of our AA and AAA players arent on major league rosters to answer your question, because thats about the talent level of the cuban league. right but the point is just about playing 2b. How much harder can MLB second base be....than Cuban second base? The hardest hit ball down there must be as hard hit as here. The hard slides... well, that would be about the only issue i could think of. If he's hitting the cover off the ball all spring, I think you look past it and give him a shot opening day.
  12. So... it sounds like he doesnt think there's much of a chance Ramirez can handle 2b. But...why would he say this about Ramirez? "It's not the same [playing second base for] Industriales in Havana and playing second base [Opening Day] in Cleveland," manager Ozzie Guillen said. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...g,1,15134.story Has no one in Havana hit a scalding line drive at him? Does no one slide hard? I mean, obviously the talent the league isnt any better, but how is it harder to play 2b at MLB, when the toughest hit balls and toughest situations to be in, as a fielder, are going to be present from time to time in any country's league?
  13. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) I don't care what he looks like, he actually has a good approach to the plate and puts good swings on the ball... most importantly, he hits the ball where it's pitched. It's so refreshing to someone actually go with an outside pitch and take it oppo rather then seeing them pull it. It kind of irritates me that the organization is saying "hey lets win this year," despite plenty of reason to NOT have that approach. And then, in the face of that, they seem pretty against giving a shot to this guy, who could be feast or famine. I mean, it's not like Juan Uribe is going to have some breakout year at 2b. Give Ramirez a try and Uribe will always be there.
  14. Everyone who rips on him better be freakin' Fabio
  15. what did CQ just do
  16. Alexei may be the Cuban defecting version of Jose Valentin. a train robber mustache away.

  19. ooooooo Alexei 3 RBI triple
  20. Hmm... Armstrong is someone who has to make the roster or be lost, no? Looks like a real good player. Def and Off
  21. Cal Eldred drives in Quentin!! Or Some Eldred! bangs one off the deep CF wall
  22. QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) back to looking like brian anderson there back to the bench, where he can pour himself a spiced chai and enjoy the 20something life some more
  23. now BA has to move along the guy he's competing with into 3rd base EDIT: and cant, Ks
  24. good at bat by Quentin, a hard hit double that he had to turn on the jets to solidify
  25. QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) What happened? At work and no sound on my computer. A little PBP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. struck out the last batter on a check swing
