  1. it seems like these rankings are always about teams playing to whatever their own full potential is. so if yr a defending champ, that bar is going to be very high - and i know no one on this board thinks we've met that yet.
  2. QUOTE(The-Legend-Of-Pujols @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Carlos Marmol will be better than any Sox pitcher in a couple of years you can bet on that. I HATE the Cubs because Im a Die Hard Cardinals fan but Marmol is my favorite pitcher in the league because he has a cannon for an arm and is so poise and has a great curveball with an upper 90's fastball. Carlos Marmol will be the Rookie-Of the-Year. it's possible this poster may actually be Carlos Marmol.
  3. Brian Anderson for President, the first redhaired president of our nation's history. ok that is not accurate.
  4. these are two different statements: 1) his form looks good 2) his problem is all mental i dont know if people here are crossing those up or what, but it's not necessarily a mental problem when you've just been called up from the minors and are seeing MLB sliders for the first time. what you need is to see more of them. but that said, some time in the minors could be the best thing, especially since we have needs elsewhere right now.
  5. by the thread title, i expected this to be about how Brian Anderson has the Sox wanting some CF draft picks.
  6. even if you believe Frank is an idiot, give some applause for the good times. he's a guy who talks too much. most these players say nothing of what's on their minds and are all the better for it. he surely is not that. but i dont think his feud with KW should determine how we thank him for all those past years. a lot of his recent frustration, if you think about it, stems from the fact that he WANTED to stay a Sox, and call it a career with us. i agree that it was no longer feasible to keep him here, and i think he's wrong to assume he deserved to be here. but i can also appreciate a guy just being angry after he's told he's not needed. and whatever he said after that point pales in comparison to the historical importance of one of the greatest careers ever.
  7. QUOTE(3RDBASE @ May 21, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) Im not justifying it Im just saying they did earn it from lots of fans, players, etc. you're right, and i guess i think that's something a bit screwed up. i'll also note that there are different degrees of this thing you're talking about. Thome and Konerko are the ultimate teammates, and there's a reason why they didnt throw any punches. obviously they're going to get onto the field and protect their teammate. but also...they're older and theyve been in a hundred of these things. they know the punching doesnt lead to any great revelations about camraderie, even if they wouldnt openly criticize what BA did.
  8. i dont at all agree that bowling-over-the-catcher should be taken out of baseball. but he's right that Brian Anderson was being an idiot. i mean, most everyone else was holding back from throwing all-out punches, except him. why is that? is he this GREAT teammate everyone here thinks he is, because he did it? or just immature as hell? how isnt everyone seeing that action as just lowering himself to Barrett's level?
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) He's a #4 or #5 guy who had everything fall into place for himself last season. If his control is off, like Buerhle he will get hit, especially if his sinker isn't working, which it hasn't much this year. His control is off more than Buerhle's. As long as he's not injured, he will still have some good games, he always has, but they won't be as frequent as last season. yes, on target. things fell into place with him last year. even with all those wins last year he hasnt had bigtime consistency ever. every now and then last year he'd get a win while getting shelled or semi-shelled. if that's a word which it's not.
  10. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 13, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) For some reason I don't think this thread would be here if we won the last 2 games... true but that place is still horrendous. the way the ball hops around on that turf is just embarassing to watch.
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) The fact that we are world champs and off to another great start speaks volumes about the Sox organization. hopefully i'm not misunderstanding your point, but it sounds like you are saying something like 'because we won the series, our organization as a whole is in great shape" just ask the Marlins how that works out. i mean, we have put a lot into winning now, and that has meant getting close to decimating the farm system. you of course realize this, no? we may run into the problem that Yanks had when we were both competing for Freddy Garcia in a trade. after years of winning and cashing in prospects, it came time to make a big midseason trade and they were completely unarmed, compared to what we could offer. we apparently felt a little of that as we tried to get Baez last yr, even. maybe our one chance is Fields continuing his great year up til trade deadline.... but we'd better lock up Crede before that guy gets traded, or all leverage goes to Boras.
  12. Torii to Sox is about the silliest possibility the papers have come up with in a while. somehwere maybe but he's not getting traded here
  13. i'd probably enjoy having a beer with neither of these two guys. i suppose i'll root for the guy who wears S.O.X. though. rootin' for the uniform, we all do it. and yea, to echo what was said above, i respect Carl for all he contributed on the field these last few yrs. whatever he or AJ says ultimately doesnt matter a lot to me.
  14. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) Sox win 7-3. Politte has a sexy 12.00 ERA. many thanks. ANGRY POLITTE!!!
  15. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) we need the return of ANGRY POLITTE actually when we win this game, can someone post that photo?
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) He would have hit the back of the pitcher's mound, and he would have killed 100 worms on the throw. ya - and i shouldve used my green. BA has a (enter projectile-firing-unit of choice)
  17. terror: imagine this pen w/o mccarthy
  18. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) can you say ESPY? East coast bias means it's already preset as an auto-Jeter award?
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) Didn't say he wouldn't make the team. He could vary well make it but he really doesn't have much value to the Sox. anyone know his PH #s? more of a need than just an OF is someone who can grab a bat and go in cold.
