  1. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) This was probably discussed in the game thread, but am I the only one that thought it was strange to have Frank pinch hit leading off an inning? but Uribe is pretty much the only regular starter you would want to PH for anyway... him or Crede. like i said before, i'm all for getting Uribe the hell out of pressure situations. he has absolutely no strategy at the plate. ever. good move by oz.
  2. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) I say they just shut down El Duque from now until the ASG so he could get proper rest. That'd be the smart thing to do. You get a good feel of what BMac could do and you rest El Duque properly. i thought we should do that as early as ...well, the signing. his age is probably closer to 40 than we would like. that said, i dont know if i even want someone who is going to need several months off just so he can get a few healthy starts. seeing as how he had arm troubles last year, i think shelving him for awhile and then putting him back in the rotation would just lead to us losing him later in the year. another thing... if he gets arm problems in the playoffs, you just know he wont report them. after all, he seems to already be hiding his issues here in mid-June maybe long relief for awhile isnt the worst idea... once he's healthy of course. benefits us because we dont really have RH long relief right now. you go see if BMac can do the job for a long trial, but also you find out whether El Duque is going to really hold up.... if he gets "healthy" and then falters again... and BMac cant succeed.... then you know you have to go out and get another arm. creative idea: get a veteran lefty reliever and get Cotts in at 5th again?
  3. and before anyone laughs me away, keep in mind that this way puts the healthier player in the lineup. i'd much rather have Everett on the basepaths all game than Frank at this point. Frank can do his damage, and then Ozuna can come right in as PR if need be
  4. i'm not saying he should permanently be coming off the bench but i'll be damned if that wasnt awesome to get that guaranteed walk to lead off the 8th ... when in need of runs. very comfortable feeling. and always glad to see Uribe (and his horrid swings) grab some bench late in the close games anyone else think Frank off the bench might be our best option? you get Carl's consistency at DH... and with Frank as PH, you get that guaranteed threat at the plate for the later innings of close games. tonite was just so damn easy that way: scare the s*** out of that shaky young setup man with a HOFer. obviously frank would not like this to become the norm, but i'm interested in what others here prefer.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 09:08 AM) A lot. Juan has and has always had tremendous range, once again this is jmo but I think very highly of Juan's defensive capabilities. if you ask me, Uribe's approach to offense and defense is the same: undisciplined he gets by on raw tools.... he takes the ugliest swings EVER at the ball and sometimes muscles it somewhere. just look at how the ball comes off his bat... even on the HR's he always looks like he just missed what he was trying to do. defense: again, bad form catching and sometimes throwing. i'm not a fan of those high arc throws, but he gets by. he gets by on that raw strength. if the guy ever got under control and listened to some advice... he'd be consistent and impressive. instead of occasionally impressive.
  6. and i didnt mean current Omar, mainly because i havent kept up with watching him lately
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) How about a guy with great range and a great arm like Uribe??? I'm just a huge fan of Uribe's defense and princesdye at this time there is no question Juan is a better defender then Vizquel imo. Whoa. when have you ever seen Uribe get to anything that should not have been playable?
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Right.. because he never moved. Can't make an error if you don't attempt to get to the ball. ? Uribe has way less mobility than Royce did..
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 07:20 AM) Only on this board can a comment like that be construed as Konerko not liking Uribe. This is a total non story, it's amazing how people here read into the simplest remarks by a player. Everyone read that one more time. Yes, sox-Royce was better defensively than Uribe. people are treating this thread like Uribe is goddam Vizquel. It's not a slight at Uribe; it is something Konerko believes, no more no less.
  10. according to Score 670, Maggs has told friends he wants to be dealt if Detroit doesnt improve their roster for next year you get what you wish for haha
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) I think Rowand more or less became a Bears fan when he was drafted by the Sox and J Hood kinda pushed him along in his fandom. i heard he grew up a Bear fan as a kid because of Walter, etc... and when he got drafted the first thing he thought about was being able to go to bears games
  12. and Rowand grew up a big Bears fan, no?
  13. yea it'd be naive to think this would never ever happen to him again. he has made huge progress , tonite nothwithstanding
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) What we really need is a LHH outfielder who can actually hit better against righties, but I'm wishing for the best of both worlds. history would show that should be Everett. at least i remember him being awful against lefties in the past.... this year has been really weird for him
  15. no one is going to want Carl.... not enough to give us anything worthwhile
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Its funny not one 1 person on this whole page has over 500 posts.... i must admit, your post count is impressive... i wish i had that "open" of a schedule
  17. anyone ignoring the wild card possibilities is in denial Minnesota is having a great season too... finishing second in the division is a very real possibility. stop pretending we're up by 15 games on Minn. whoever started this thread brings up something worth thinking about... i hadnt considered what our lead might be in wild card standings, and i'm glad to know it now.
  18. lets not get carried away with articles like this.... i'm sure Cotts sucked for a VARIETY of reasons in past years. he never went after hitters like he did now, and i doubt you can attribute all of that to a lack control
  19. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) El Duque will be huge when the Sox reach the post season. maybe... but the way things are going... maybe he will be huge in middle relief edit: not saying he's awful, but he's starter #5 of 5 stuff-wise
  20. Mariotti calling a lawyer? what a dope. hey, i know who the first witness would be at court: Scott Skiles. then we'll see how much truth was in that sham of an article.
  21. Sox handled last two batters just right.... pitch to Helton but stay out of the zone..... and get the matchup you want
  22. Score just noted how good of a porno name "Lance Broadway" is
  23. i already think he is a bust and also i think that he is a future HOFer in the making.
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) nobody wants to pick up his 12 million dollar trade option, he isnt going anywhere. boy Frank sure got himself a sweet contract way back when. pretty much a no-trade clause, with the exception of tons of money if he does get dealt makes me think he should be the one representing Skiles to go against Reinsdorf
  25. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) BYE CARL and....see my above post - he's not going anywhere either.
