  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) He's a #4 or #5 guy who had everything fall into place for himself last season. If his control is off, like Buerhle he will get hit, especially if his sinker isn't working, which it hasn't much this year. His control is off more than Buerhle's. As long as he's not injured, he will still have some good games, he always has, but they won't be as frequent as last season. yes, on target. things fell into place with him last year. even with all those wins last year he hasnt had bigtime consistency ever. every now and then last year he'd get a win while getting shelled or semi-shelled. if that's a word which it's not.
  2. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 13, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) For some reason I don't think this thread would be here if we won the last 2 games... true but that place is still horrendous. the way the ball hops around on that turf is just embarassing to watch.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) The fact that we are world champs and off to another great start speaks volumes about the Sox organization. hopefully i'm not misunderstanding your point, but it sounds like you are saying something like 'because we won the series, our organization as a whole is in great shape" just ask the Marlins how that works out. i mean, we have put a lot into winning now, and that has meant getting close to decimating the farm system. you of course realize this, no? we may run into the problem that Yanks had when we were both competing for Freddy Garcia in a trade. after years of winning and cashing in prospects, it came time to make a big midseason trade and they were completely unarmed, compared to what we could offer. we apparently felt a little of that as we tried to get Baez last yr, even. maybe our one chance is Fields continuing his great year up til trade deadline.... but we'd better lock up Crede before that guy gets traded, or all leverage goes to Boras.
  4. Torii to Sox is about the silliest possibility the papers have come up with in a while. somehwere maybe but he's not getting traded here
  5. i'd probably enjoy having a beer with neither of these two guys. i suppose i'll root for the guy who wears S.O.X. though. rootin' for the uniform, we all do it. and yea, to echo what was said above, i respect Carl for all he contributed on the field these last few yrs. whatever he or AJ says ultimately doesnt matter a lot to me.
  6. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) Sox win 7-3. Politte has a sexy 12.00 ERA. many thanks. ANGRY POLITTE!!!
  7. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) we need the return of ANGRY POLITTE actually when we win this game, can someone post that photo?
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) He would have hit the back of the pitcher's mound, and he would have killed 100 worms on the throw. ya - and i shouldve used my green. BA has a (enter projectile-firing-unit of choice)
  9. terror: imagine this pen w/o mccarthy
  10. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) can you say ESPY? East coast bias means it's already preset as an auto-Jeter award?
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) Didn't say he wouldn't make the team. He could vary well make it but he really doesn't have much value to the Sox. anyone know his PH #s? more of a need than just an OF is someone who can grab a bat and go in cold.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) Did he forget how to hit? maybe he wants to be in WBC after all. usually if i make a decision not to do something, i do everything within my power to 1) greatly regret it 2) completely fail at whatever i decided to do instead.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) Maybe you should shoot an email to Ozzie to complain. Because after reading his quotes in the SunTimes, he has a similiar opinon on the leadership of Carl Everett and company and their affect on this years squad. In fact his example was the same one I used last week with Carl being dropped from 3rd to 6th. Ozzie is the leader of this team. /END OF THREAD this is unnecessary to point out, i'm not talking about Carl's leadership at all. Carl contributed a lot last year, and hasnt been out of line with these comments at all. ever lost a job and said "they'll be worse off without me?" thats all we have here.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) Carl was all team until he got dropped from the 3 hole where he wasnt producing to the 6 hole. Remember he went to the press about it. This was when we were fighting for our playoffs lives mind you. Ozzie snapped him back in line and we luckily found a 3 hole hitter for the playoffs. if someone gets dropped from the three hole, i want them to get angry. that's part of loving to compete, part of wanting that pressure on you. i've never understood why some fans want players to take any demotion absolutely quietly. they're going to be upset, whether they talk to media or not, so dont fool yourself. you make a good point that his prediction borders on cattiness, but thats about all i see one could take issue with. so what if he stands up for Willie? they were teammates. actually, that first point you make accuses him of not supporting his teammates, and in this Willie issue you accuse of him doing so to excess? which one is it?
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) Carl thanks for your efforts last year, but as this is 2006, STFU. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) I nominate this for the best post in this thread. no, that was the worst post in this thread. that blind go-team-go attitude, to the point of completely forgetting the contributors you rooted for in 05...it's just embarassing to read. Carl's hitting nearly carried us at the beginning of the year, a part of the season where more talented Sox teams in the past have shot themselves in the foot for good. he covered Jermaine's comatose bat early in the year, Jermaine covered his later. Carl also hit near .450 in the series. he argued his points well, takes no cheap shots, and actually represents the same beliefs of some still-diehard Sox fans. i dont see anything here inappropriate, and we'll just have to see whether KW's plans were right. i personally like our moves, but i'm not going to insult Carl's take on this.
  16. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) Or at the end of the season, asking for alot more than he's worth and then signing with the Twins. and the Borasness is there too.
  17. well he just said on the Score that he doesnt really want a new bulldozer. plus i guess that Furcal line of thinking that the crazy money will be even more ridiculous in 3 yrs.
  18. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) You think they are going to pay Javier Vazquez that much money and cause him to upset the lockerrom by having him as a long reliever. Be serious. Ozzie would handle that situation, if it had to be done, better than any manager i can think of. but the point is, our moves have taken out Duque/Vizcaino...and (in whatever roles) brought in McCarthy/Vazquez. i just dont see how you can't like that 2 for 2 switch. it's totally beyond me.
  19. getting Vazquez does not mean he 100% absolutely has to be a starter. could be a reliever by midyear.... and we'd STILL have better pitching than last year. if McCarthy is what everyone is so sure he'll be (and fast)... then he'll be the #5. Vazquez to long relief. Ozzie will have no problem making that switch if it makes the team better. even with this in mind, Vazquez is going to be more reliable for a whole year than the 41-yr old Duque. Viz was loseable, and Young was behind a lot of OFs in the organization. have to like that trade. i dont read this as pushing Contreras out at all. he doesnt make that much next year, so i believe we'll go into 06 with these 6 guys, and then the year after we'll be prepared for one of them leaving.
