White Sox about to sign Bartolo Colon?
QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) I don't know if I really like this deal if it works out. Bartolo has the ability to be dominate on the mound only if he is healthy. I still think we should have delt Crede to the Giants for Noah Lowry. Gotta trade Crede for some solid prospect(s) when you can. Need to rebuild things down there, big time. I honestly wouldnt want to trade Crede for a #3 vet rotation guy. I think we have a better chance of getting a better-than-expected performance from Danks or Floyd or Count I think you maximize Crede the asset by giving him to a contender who needs a 3B - and has real prospects to deal.

USA Today editorial cartoon
I like Dick Durbin, but man, what a flip flopper. He's from East St Louis, and he has gone on to support Cardinals, Sox and Cubs. Total politician. Barack, for his sake, still went pro Sox while saying something vaguely supportive of the Cubs. Then again, he has Illinois in the palm of his hand already so he might as well not take pains to offend anyone. G-Rod is fervently pro-Cub, which.... well, while I'm a Dem, i'll just say that it makes sense.

Maybe we should contact an Oakland board and find out how good Swish is at picking it at first Anyone know?

Batting Order Ideas
I know there are plenty of post-your-lineup threads I could find To keep it short, though, just post your innovative idea for the batting order. Like Thome batting second or something. hopefully more sane than that. and see http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/arc...2/09/11853.aspx (i like what happens when you scroll the mouse over his lineup)
-
Yahoo report; Coming of age
Besides, you just know that Thome's back will take all this into consideration and manage to be injured enough to allow Swisher plenty of 1B time Thusly, Owens and Quentin and Swisher will all play together some 30 games anyway, plus the platooning. So no one's development gets curbed.
-
Yahoo report; Coming of age
We all know Owens hasnt proven much. He'll have a chance to be a most-days leadoff hitter, and if he blows that, I'm sure the Sox will say Quentin, Quentin, Quentin. You want up the middle defense strong, but if you're holding back the stats Quentin put up in AAA, you're going to value that more. Also Alexei the X factor, lets not forget that i guess.

Clips of Carlos Quentin...
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) The shoulder injury occurred in March. And it's not like he hasn't had major league success, he's been both great and terrible in the majors. It's most likely that he's just a young player who possesses incredible talent but who needs get healthy, avoid injuries and further development at the major league level. Here's how his 2007 season went: March: Tore his left labrum April: Started the season on the DL (missed about 2 weeks) May: Bad June: Bad July: 1.)Was demoted on the 6th 2.) Played incredibly well during his time at AAA 3.) Recalled from AAA on the 27th August: 1.) Suffered a moderate hamstring injury on the first day of the month that landed him on the DL 2.) Started a rehab assignment on the 19th and played poorly at AAA 3.) Activated from the DL on SEPT 1st 4.) Got a grand total of 11 ABs in the month of SEPT since the OF was full (Byrnes, Young, Upton) October: Underwent surgery to repair his torn left rotator cuff and labrum very interesting, thanks very much for that Ideally O-Cab can be a pseudo leadoff and we can platoon w/ this guy.

Clips of Carlos Quentin...
so, to educate a guy who doesnt know a ton about Quentin.... do we know for sure that his injury happened AFTER his minor league success last year? or can it still simply be that he's great at AAA and bad in the majors?

A note on trading prospects
in offseasons like this one it's nice to think about Jeremy Reed being, well, bad now.

Uribe vs Richar BATTLE for 2nd Base
If we're expecting Uribe and Richar to be similar numbers wise.... then doesnt it make sense to go with Uribe opening day? You can get his trade value up for a bit.... and you're probably going to get a little power from him than Richar, even if the stats last yr are comparable. I dunno. First ss injured somewhere, and you go knocking on the door with Uribe and his upstart .308 average. Quickly traded before it does its usual swannage.

Does anyone else like the fact nobody is giving the SOX a chance in 08
I like it simply for the fact that there's just less talk in general. Like '05. When the exhibition is talked up insane amounts it just hurts my head. I know, why am I on a message board, etc.

Least favorite Sox players
I dont really get the Bartolo hate... did he have some personality issues I'm not aware of? Well I guess ppl can be mad he left, but he produced alright, and we didnt pay up.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
If someone wants to call me naive and inform me, I'm all for it. But let me ask this... Why is everyone so up in arms about losing the prospects? Sure we potentially lose a lot, but 1) none may pan out 2) isn't it (theoretically) just a decision to spend more on the present EVERY year? it's not just going for 2008. it means JR will have to spend more each year to come. Not saying JR will, but theoretically, isnt it something you shouldnt get up in arms about? if we just drained the minor league pitching, then said pitching will never see the big leagues. we'll replace that with actual major leaguers.
