Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) But you defined that distinction specifically on popularity, which is irrelevant. Billboards sell when the brand is popular, and the brand is popular when the team wins. We should only care about talent, not likeability. Clearly. My point is that the argument in the past has been that the Sox can't afford to trade stars because it will hurt the brand. I think that's hogwash. Chris Sale is obviously a phenomenal pitcher, but he hardly a household name. I think it's foolish to hang on to Sale in hopes that he will be same pitcher 3 or 4 years down the road when the team is ready to contend and even more so with Abreu.

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) This is you repeating the idea that some how that winning games is less important then billboards and selling tickets. No, not even close. You're really grasping at straws. It's differentiating between "star" and "great player." You're circumventing the argument because it goes against the "we can't rebuild because Sox" crap argument you've made for years.

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Wait, you are building your team around who is on billboards? That was even worse than I thought. Did I ever say that? It's pretty clear what I meant. For years you've said the Sox can't afford to rebuild. It's basically fear mongering. I'm saying the Sox can afford to rebuild because A. It can't get worse. B. The great players they do have aren't selling tickets anyway. The Sox rebuild will take longer than the window of Sale and Abreu being dominant players, IMO.

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
How else should the Sox rebuild while keeping the few assets they have? They're so far from contending now that they're going have to get incredibly lucky to win while those assets are in their prime. Counting on luck is no way to run an organization.

2015 TV Thread
It looks like they're going to channel Lynch this year. The Cadillac passing the Mulholland Drive sign and the jazz notes weren't coincidence. I like the idea of a nonlinear story without context until after the narrative. If anything, it's different.

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) How the hell is Sale not a star? He's arguably the best pitcher in baseball, top 3 at worst. When's the last time you saw Sale on a commercial or billboard the Sox weren't paying for? Star and great player are different.

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Our best prospect is about to be a future top of the rotation pitcher. Fulmer? Technically, he's not even in the damn organization.

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) Oh it could be worse. We could have no stars and no prospects, which isn't impossible in moves like this. They don't have stars as it is. They have some great players, but they aren't stars. It really couldn't be worse. Sale and Abreu don't sell tickets. Baseball doesn't work like that anymore. Winning and beer sells tickets. The team is abysmal. Attendance is abysmal. They don't have the assets to build around the 3 or 4 good players they have. They're dangerously close to being the Raiders of baseball.

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) Or you could turn them into nothing quite easily. So, that gets us back to where we are now. The Sox are an awful organization. Fear of change nets us nothing. Let's just be stagnant, continue to suck, watch Sale waste his best years until his arm blows up, watch Abreu get old and fat, and watch Q regress back to mean. The Sox are nowhere near contending. They don't have enough impact players on the farm. Our best prospect is a singles machine that can't field his position. They have to do something.

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) So move cost controlled young assets for a rebuild? Huh. If you can turn one asset into several, absolutely.
-
Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
I'd definitely look into moving Abreu. His age and body type are gonna give him a small window as a premier player. I think the organization needs a complete overhaul, from the top down, which includes a fire sale. Just about ever facet of the organization is broken. It's time to start over.

Rick Hahn is the last person you should blame
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) and that is another of my half points. this team is way under performing, no one can be really be blamed, unless you look at the previous yrs or history of that person. Sure, they're performing to expectations, but they would have sucked anyway. It's really poorly put together baseball team.
-
Rick Hahn is the last person you should blame
In not excusing KW either. I'd fire his ass too. Hell, Herm and Coop are the only people in the entire organization I'd hang on to.
-
Rick Hahn is the last person you should blame
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) no, but with Rodon, it was still done by him, whether its was a no brainer or not. Abreu was always KW's guy. The off season moves were all dumb and shortsighted. They committed way too much money for a closer on a bad team. They traded Semien for a rental. Cabrera sucks. The Laroche signing was solid. Even if those moves all worked, I've never seen a worse fielding MLB team assembled. We're atrocious defensively on paper and worse on the field

Rick Hahn is the last person you should blame
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) Signing Abreu and drafting Rodon are pretty ok too. Didn't KW sign Abreu? The Rodon pick was a no brained. Frankly, we got lucky
-
Rick Hahn is the last person you should blame
Aside from the Sale and Q contracts, Hahn has been a complete failure as a GM.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
QUOTE (onedude @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 06:57 PM) Even if he gets resurrected in books I think I remember reading they still might keep him dead. Why!? It's beyond me...he's a popular character and a resurrection only proves who we all think he is...how would they not want that or him in the show? He might be reborn as a different character. He has to die to leave the Nights Watch. After he dies, his watch has ended, and he's free.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) I'd GLADLY gamble 1/15 on Samardzija next year at this point. I haven't followed him closely throughout the years, but from what little I've seen, his stuff seems to have declined a lot. I know I'm a broken record about that trade. I just don't understand the logic. Semien isn't long for SS in Oakland and wouldn't be playing SS in Chicago. He's a pretty good 2nd baseman though.

Another great episode. The last 2 have been amongst the best on any TV show ever.

Spike Lee movie "Chriraq" polarizes Chicago
There's absolutely no controversy. The only thing I've heard about it is people making fun of them for shooting at the Double Door.

Samardzija Trade Packages
I think Semien would have the 3rd highest ops+ on the team. Thanks, Rick. Good job.

White Sox vs Rangers game thread 6/2/15
Did Shark used to have better stuff? His stuff looks really pedestrian since he's been with us.

White Sox vs Rangers game thread 6/2/15
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) To the naked eye, the pitchers have not been ready to start games this year. No excuse for giving up the most first inning runs with the starting rotation the Sox have. They're adults who have been warming up for years. They know how to do it. Its their fault. Blaming coaching is just lazy.
