in order 1. Yankees 2. Cubs 3. Red Sox

well, Gruds was signed to a minor league deal, so he may not even make it to the big leagues. (slim chance on that I would say, unless an injury comes up) I just roll my eyes at the whole deal because its another typical Twins signing. aged/washed up veteran signed cheap to plug a hole instead of going out, spending some capital (money or prospects) and getting someone who can play second base (or third base, or a relief pitcher) for an extended time

Starter: Johan Santana Reliever: toss up between Mo Rivera and Joe Nathan

you guys can forget about winning the division now, the Twins signed Mark Grudzielanek

BRadke inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame

i was just going off Baseball References list. The Twins dont really honor the Senators, except for the player that made the transition (Killibrew, Kaat, etc) and they have a page in the back of the media guide that has the all time franchise leaders. Compliling list that includes players from Washington and Minnesota gets confusion using b-r because their list is not seprated out. -
BRadke inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame

Well, Radke (148) is 4th on the all time Franchise Wins list (Walter Johnson 417, Jim Kaat 190 , Bert Blyleven 149). He was very good on a lot of crappy mid-to-late 90's teams (20 wins in 1997, the team had 68) and 5th in innings pitched and 5th in strikeouts. The guy was a fan favorite, and his last season (2006) when he was pitching every 5th day with a torn labrum will go down in legend with Twins fans. He also had a pretty awesome changeup, but was prone to giving up the gopher ball ( ) Is he Twins HoF worthy? yes. But these teams HoF's are mostly a marketing tool to get fans in the seats. -
he sniffs and whispers

Twins swept by the Yanks. Sun still rises in the East. ho hum.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Sox still lurking 2 1/2 GB. Nice to see another VERY important Sox/Twins series looming this weekend, with the Dome not QUITE so intimidating as before I am going to Friday's game. I'm pretty excited. I have been to a few Sox/Twins games over the years and I have noticed that each year, more and more Sox fans attend games at the Dome.

Ayala was released because he went into Gardenhire's office and demanded a trade because he wasn't the main 8th inning guy http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/48...UoDEy3LGDiO7aiU I guess the Pirates were in talks to get Ayala, and the Twins wanted Hinske in return, but the talks died when Hinske was dealt to the Yanks
-
I can't wait to be out of the Dome too. I hate going to games there

the only thing that is making Kevin Slowey a Cy Young 'contender' is that he has 10 wins (8-0, 4.07 at home/ 2-3, 5.01 on the road)

Morneau is locked up through 2013 and I would say chances are about 75% that Mauer stays with the Twins

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) With the time he missed, does he have any chance of accumulating enough AB's to qualify for the batting title? he is about 20 hitless plate appearances away from qualifying

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) It's a travesty that no matter how clean a player appears to be you have to always wonder. I agree with pretty much everything you've said here. A lot of scouts seem to believe that Matt Wieters will be better than Joe Mauer. I hope I'm around to see that. From what I've read and heard from Gardenhire and the Twins Front Office, Mauer will be a catcher for quite a while before the move him. They like the way he handles the pitching staff, and they like his cannon arm behind the plate. Then what I've picked up from blogs and whatnot, having Mauer behind the plate putting up the kind of number he does is an advatage for the Twins because well, catcher aren't supposed to hit .375
-
did anyone see that it took only 80 pitches for Luke Hochevar to throw a complete game against the Reds. -- as for Mauer, not only does he have the 13 HR already, he has 39 RBI's too
-
man the Twins suck on the road. Former Sox catcher Jamie Burke hit a homer for SEA today

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Was that the same type of contract that Buehrle got before, that takes him a little bit past his Arb years? that contract bought out 1 or 2 Arb years. Mauer contract runs out after the 2010 season. The current contract bought out his arb and 1 year F.A.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Realistically, if they don't start hitting on some of the deals soon, the team will fall to the bottom of the division. Once that happens attendence historically falls to near nothing. If they get to the point of drawing 15,000 a night like they did in the late 90's, they won't be able to afford one, or both, of those guys. 15k was a great night back in teh mid-late 90's. Games were more like 8-9-10k, but that was tickets sold. actual people at the Dome was more like 5 or 6k.

Delmon hasn't had an extra base hit since Apr 22.

baseball is better when the divisions are close anyway. the wins seem to mean more when your rivals lose (or in the Sox case Thursday, gaining some ground on a day off) and you check the standings and teams are jockeying for position

Michael Cuddyer is raking right now he just hit for the cycle

any Yankee Stadium is a house of horrors for the Twins. Under the Ron Gardenhire regime, they have 3 wins. 3 win in 8 years. thats pretty much impossible to do
-
from the StarTrib about Joe Crede he has had some Hammy problems of late. It happened after playing in the rain in Baltimore a few weeks back
