2013 AL Central Catch All thread

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 06:25 PM) Jesus are the Twins terrible. Even with Mauer and Morneau that offense is such a collection of "WHO?" you dont have Pedro Florimon fever? the top 5 in the batting order should be fine. Im not sold on Plouffe or Dozier and Florimon swings a wet noodle. -

interesting Twins note. Gardy said Joe Mauer is going to bat in the #2 slot. I dont know how long that is going to last, but that is a pretty big departure in Gardy's convention wisdom (speedy guy #1, bunty guy #2, Mauer #3) also, best of luck to all AL Central'ers this year. -

I love the Revere trade. He is basically Juan Pierre with less power, and the Twins have a 'better Revere' with Aaron Hicks coming up (stronger arm, more patient at the plate) sometime in 2013 Plus 2 more pitchers to help stock the roster -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 10:35 AM) What makes any of you think the Twins have the money to keep Buehrle? His contract is extremely backloaded. according to the article, if a trade happens, the Marlins are willing to eat a lot of salary. But it depends on the propect(s) they receive. the better the prospect, the more they eat. The Twins have a lot of salary coming off the books (30-35 mil..somewhere around there) and there is more and more talk about trading Morneau (14 mil I believe). -

Twins might make a trade for Mark Buehrle which makes sense because he is pretty much the epitome of a 'Twins pitcher' (junkballer, quick worker, doesnt walk anyone, gritty player) -

Josh Willingham hit HR #35 last night, the first Twin to hit at least 35 since Harmon Killebrew in 1970. amazing. He also has 110 RBI. -

the Indians have pretty much stopped trying to play defense. They pissed away a 5-1 lead after 6 innings and lost another game. The Twins are only 1 game back for 3rd place in the Central -

the Red Sox put a waiver claim on Danny Valencia so the Twins traded him for an OFer in the GCL (speed guy, no bat. what a shock) and the Red Sox sent him to AAA. Valencia really looked like a player that could hold down third base for a while after his rookie year (a thing not done since the days of Corey Koskie). But, he never cleaned up his defense and his offense got worse. Maybe the change of teams will do him good, but I highly doubt it. -

Twins outscored Cleveland 28-6 -
when Liriano is locked in, he is as good as any '#1 starter' in the league. That 3-10 record is a bit deceiving because there was a time where he gave up 5 runs in 2 games and took losses even through he had roughly (not exaggerating) 50 swing and misses. He doesnt throw 95 anymore, more like 92-93 with a changeup that have movement and his slider still have bite. But what happens (and its so frustrating to watch) is that he gets all goofy with his mechanics and fly open, then who knows where the ball is going. If Don Cooper can get him to stop doing that, well you won the trade. Otherwise the balls get left up and balls leave the ballpark

forgo a traditional hotdog and nab a Kramarczuk's sausage. If you want something different, there is pork chop or walleye on a stick. If you are a fan of beers not Budweiser, local brews include Surly's (everyone raves about that, but Ive heard the lines are long every game), Summit and Schells

Twins up 10-0 so far on the Tribe Josh Tomlin was hit hard. Morneau hit a HR about 420 feet, and Willingham hit one about 415. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) Liriano continuing to improve his trade value. Liriano has had an insane amount of swing and misses the last 2 game. its somewhere in the neighborhood of 50. -

Fransisco Liriano had 15 strikeouts (8 of the first 9 batters k'd) last night. Outside of a walk then a hanging changeup, he was filthy. He has been trending toward the good side of things, and I think the Twins should sell high on him. But will other teams give up good prospects for a guy who have super high and super low valleys remains to be seen. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 12:48 PM) I was unaware that Ortiz was a Mariner. He didnt go by Ortiz back then, he went by David Arias. The Twins traded Dave Hollins in a September trade.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 11:39 PM) Boy are the Twins bad. How fast they fell. The other night I assumed they were going to hammer Detroit (after a nice lead), I watched the game only to see that was short lived. That has to be a frustrated city of fans. What are they going to wait for? Football season? No light at the end of that tunnel. for a bad team, they are surprisingly watchable, unlike last year. Every time Josh Willingham is at the plate, there is a chance the ball will go very far. Joe Mauer is quietly has a fine season. Trevor Plouffe has been flying high since June 1. Ben Revere is a little spark plug of a player. The bullpen is pretty good. But, a team will never win too many game without decent starting pitching. Outside of Scott Diamond, and lately Liriano (who will be traded by the deadline) they have no one who can get past the 4th inning with any consistency. Even though the Twins have been outscored by a staggering 89 runs, they have played 29 one run games. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) I didn't realize Glen Perkins could get it up to 97. he didnt throw that hard when he was a starter. but when he moved to the bullpen last he, he started to throw his fastball a little harder. Detroit might have a fast gun, but regularly throws it 95. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) Do we really trust the Twins bullpen to get 9 outs before giving up at least 2 runs? actually, the Twins bullpen is pretty good this year. they have also pitched about 600* innings already *this number may or may not be true. -

Josh Willingham hit a mammoth HR off Chapman in the 9th inning to win the game. The Twins are playing about .400 ball, and yet are only 8 games out of first. crazy. -

the Twins have won 9 of their last 11 games, and are only 2.5 games behind Detroit.
