2012 AL Central Catch-All thread

I will say the defense is a lot better this year than the last couple of years. Jamey Carroll has kind of solidified the infield. Willingham is a statue in LF, but is an upgrade ove Delmon 'rollerskates' Young. But, the starting pitching has cost this Twins team early this year, and it might be too big of a hole to dig out. -

Ryan Doumit hurt his calf muscle and is now on the DL. The Twins Front Office (mostly Billy Smiths doing) has made some horrible moves the last few years, but the injury bug cant escape this team. -
if the Sox got Peter Bourjos, I would scream. He owns the Twins. (.321/.351/.736/1.087 slash line. 4 of his 19 career homers have comes against the Twins)

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) Supposedly Gardenhire is getting fired or forced to resign the next few days. Kind of sad, after what he accomplished. 90% of it is Bill Smith's fault, although I'm sure somewhere along the way every manager's message becomes a little stale. I havent heard any legit rumors about Gardenhire being canned. A lot of fans are pretty angry at him, and I can see why. But, what is he supposed to do when the starting pitchers cant pitch a decent game and a lot of the talent is AA worthy. there is n o pitching in the pipeline because of about 19 Tommy John surgeries to the top prospects. -
the Angels have been shut out 7 times this year.

Monday night was a freak thing. Saltalamaccia's HR was golfed on a pitch below his knees, and Ross's 2nd HR was down and away and hit opposite field (something like the 5th RH batter to hit a opposite field HR at Target Field), but for the most part the starting pitcher have been throwing meatballs. i think the Oakland A's score plate hit 10 off this starting staff. -

he has been a good offensive addition. Also, Joe Mauer is driving in runs this year. he is not very good playing the outfield. Not Delmon Young bad, but...yeesh -

Twins claimed former Tigers great Clete Thomas and sent Ben Revere down to Rochester. They can start printing those World Series tickets now. -

From what I remember Cuddyer didnt not want to sign, and the Twins wanted draft picks. Jamey Carroll seems like a decent signing so far. He can field and takes pitches, which is a lot more than what the Twins were putting out there last year. -

Span seems to be fine. In the first spring training game of the year, Span crashed into a fence trying to make a catch but the concussions symptoms did not return. -

I like the signing. Its crazy, Perkins was almost drummed out of the organization a few years back and now is its best reliever -

Matt Lawton was a juicer

it might be a long year next year for the Twins. They are starting 2 AA players (Joe Benson and Chris Parmelee) and another AA pitcher (Liam Hendricks) there is no depth at AAA and a lot of the stud players (Miguel Sano) are still in the lower class levels
-
I dont know if any of you all saw Ben Revere's catch last night, but WOW too bad he dont have a bit more power in his bat and has a noodle for an arm
-
what do I think of the Young/Garza trade now? well, obviously, it was a terrible trade. Matt Garza would be an awesome addition for the pitching staff right now. But I guess he and Gardenhire didnt get along. When the trade happened, I was ecstatic. But things didnt work out. move on

there are not a lot of Twins fan shedding a tear over this move. A lot of people, including myself, thought the Twins were going to non tender him in the offseason, so getting something more than a bag of baseballs is a win.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) Cuddyer's having a good year right now and he was good two years ago. But did the Twins not realize how awful he was last season? he had thumb and foot injuries all year also, if you see any trade rumors involving Denard Span, dont believe them

4 games with the Tribe next week, and temp are supposed to be near 100 and heat indices are going towards 115

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) There's serious talk about trying to bring back Rauch, even though he wasn't very popular at all in the Twins' clubhouse. Had a reputation for surliness. I have heard none of this steam. What I keep hearing is that the Twins will dump one of their lefties (Dumatrait or Mijares) to Rochester and bring up Chuck James who is pitching awesomely

Matt Capps can only get saves against the White Sox
