  1. I don't mean to start another debate on the merits of the war in Iraq, but it now feels like we've wasted the our military and political capital on invading Iraq when military options in Iran might need to be pursued. I think its really dangerous to let Iran have nuclear technology. Not only is Isreal in direct reach of Iranian missle range, Iran is just goofy enough to start pawning off its technology to groups that actually might strike the U.S. They seem 10 times more likely to hit us (or our allies) than Iraq ever did. Now if just feels inevitable. Iran will have nukes. Scary.
  2. I'd recommend Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  3. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) More fearmongering from Mr. Limbaugh. I love the "Well, it might have done this so it may do this and that will lead to this possibility of deaths." regarding the expose because it is such a lame cop-out essentially saying: "Well, I don't have any proof that this is going to harm anybody so here's some smoke to blow up peoples' asses." We're fighting for free speech and the right to a free press -- except when they print things that we don't like. I think I'm getting the hang of it now. /Sit down, shut up and obey. I think fearmongering is what this is. Those kooky conservatives get to blame the New York Times and get to huff and puff about how liberals are destroying america. Given that its likely that Valerie Plame was involved in an intel program on the development of nuclear weapons in Iran, that seems far worse than what the NYT did here. This is how the right can get its numbers up a little more. nothing more... nothing less BTW: Where was the outrage when high ranking members of the administration outed an undercover CIA agent to a reporter for a national newspaper?
  4. I'm an attorney with some (albeit fairly limited) practice in anti-trust regulation... That said, I think there would be enormous hurdles to overcome before the FTC or SEC approved a merger between these two companies. I think the argument that the market cannot sustain two satellite services is a loser... With such enormous barriers to entry in the satellite radio market, the SEC would pretty much be rubber-stamping a long-term monopoly on the market. With each of these companies together comprising over 90% of the satellite market, the legal obstacles they would need to overcome would be extremely substantial. That said, I did have a highly regarded anti-trust professor in law school that told us he once squeezed a merger by with a 99% market share... but I'm sure that didn't have the national focus this type of deal might have. Given the Commission's reticence in other large, high-profile deals, I'd be skeptical of a merger's success.
  5. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) Sure, we've seen exterminators, chicken sexers, shrimpers and avian vomitologists. But today we look at one of the dirtiest jobs on the planet... Soxtalk Filibuster Moderator Congrats on the modship! very funny... but true... congrats
  6. I'm interested in a FFL league... provided it is played through Yahoo.
  7. This might be ripe for a challenge in the courts. As far as I know, there is no jurisprudence on the degree of scrutiny to be applied for lingual characteristics. Language is often a proxy for race. So maybe its subject to strict scrutiny. That would probably render this law unconsitutional. While I don't discount that having foreign language specialists is important (especially for firefighters who may need to communicate with others in a crisis), its pretty rediculous to make it a condition of advancement.
  8. wow... thanks for posting this... Its a great bit of useless knowledge
  9. QUOTE(minors @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) Well it was started by liberals and how he was declining of course everyone said it was such great news so I am certainly going to use it to my advantage. Seems like liberals can't handle the numbers so they have to attack the messenger which is a typical liberal tactic Attack the messenger? All I did was take two posts, THAT YOU WROTE, and compared them. That's fair game.
  10. QUOTE(minors @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Bush approval gained the last 4 days and up 44% and the war have also climbes. This is good news and good news for conservative candidates who should win big in November. President Bush oh sweet irony: take a look at this post made by Minors not more than two weeks ago: QUOTE(minors @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) Your right I should tone it down a little but it just seems to me that liberals are disappointed that we got this guy because it is a victory for President Bush and might hurt there poll numbers. Wars should not be about poll numbers and that is why I snapped.
  11. Well... thats what you get when you pitch to the most dangerous hitter in baseball
  12. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) i dunno if it's changed since then, but sportsbook.com has the mets as the biggest favorite of the night yup... i stand corrected. sorry bout that
  13. greatscott82... this is way off topic, but who is that chick in your avatar?
  14. I thing slurs can be actually very hurtful And I speak from experience. A few years ago, these 19 year old kids came trick-or-treating at my house on Halloween. I refused to give them candy cause they are too old. Then, later that night, someone TPed my house and spray-painted "Bald Asshole" on my front door. They didn't deserve candy I didn't deserve this: "Bald Asshole?" Thats a hate crime. Bald people are a group... we're a set. I didn't know it was going to be felony-or-treat. What's next trick or bang-bang?
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) Can anyone name any other sport with an active currently open homosexual player? (counting Martina as retired, I think).? Ummm... the LPGA
  16. Based on the sports oddsmakers, the sox are the biggest lock of the night in MLB. ... impressive against such a worthy foe like the cardinals
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) Kotex boys avatar if he ever joined this forum. As an aside, whenever I am reading a thread and someone uses the term "attention whore" I chuckle and know that that picture is going to be up within three posts. fantastic
  18. Here's the thing; what Ozzie said would be outrageous if it were a generally honest and decent sports reporter. But Mariotti has done this to himself... he's sleezy and simply writes articles to stir the pot and create controversy with no thought whatsoever to those he rips on a daily basis. Ozzie's right... F*** Marriotti That said, I wish he had not used the term he used. Its really not appropriate and it detracts from the real message which is that marriotti is a complete tool.
  19. QUOTE(Aderal @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) I needed avg real bad, so i traded carlos lee for derek jeter straight up cuz lee seems to either be heading down or stayin around 270 and it looks like jeter is gonna have a solid year. I'm not really a fan of trading for average... to me its kinda unpredictable... I mean one player who hits forty points higher than another is not worth that much when you have nine other guys on the team. That said, If you got jeter, the deal is fine. Jeter plays SS, and scores a s***load. They are both fine players... its not the type of deal that is certain to send you over the top, but it may work out for you
