  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) So did Oz get thrown out? Does that mean we'll see logical bullpen management tonight? ozzie got one of the fastest ejections in history...
  2. Not that it matters now, but I thought Abreu's foot went to the side of the bag and he only got it with his hand. Pauly's foot beat Abreu's hand... It did not beat Abreu to the side of the bag... but I don't think Abreu got it... I could be wrong, but he looked out
  3. Most overrated player - easy... Kerry Wood. No single player in history has parlayed a one game performance (20 Ks) into such a lucrative career... financially and in hype. Most overrated Manager - Not really sure... probably Dusty to be honest. He's easily one of the three worst on-the-field managers in baseball. He'll lose his job this year... but some dumbass team will sign him up to be a manager. Most overrated GM - Cashman is the easy answer... but I give him some credit for dealing with Steinbrenner. So I'll say Theo Epstein. He's basically Cashman's clone with slightly less money... Underrated: Player: Jermaine Dye Manager: Bobby Cox (he get no pub... but just look at all he's accomplished) GM: Terry Ryan
  4. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) The real question is how many terrorist middle managers will lose their jobs with the merger? Gold Jerry... Gold! thats a potential nominee for filibuster post of the year
  5. It seems like we've heard the phrase "must-win game" 10 times this season...
  6. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 08:47 AM) That includes domestic flights? At first it was only flights in and out of heathrow... That changed earlier this morning. Now all flights in the U.S. (both international & domestic) have the carry-on and liquid restrictions. should be a wild day at o'hare
  7. One giant massive standing ovation for scotland yard.... what a catch It will be interesting to hear more details about this...
  8. I'm not calling anyone liars, but doesn't it seem strange that a kid would try to use a BB gun to defend himself against three armed police officers? Thats strange to me. I believe kids are stupid... but that is absurdly stupid... basically suicide. I wonder if we actually have all the facts here. I'm a white guy from the northern suburbs. I have nothing in common with this kid from cabrini... But I'll hold off on judgment on this kid right now. It sorta feels like all the facts aren't there. Edit: I'm probably going to get blasted in some posts now. I know that.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) All they can do is ask the Courts to once again decide on religion and the Constitution. I believe both are strong enough to face the challenge. I think we have gone overboard in chasing religion from our society. There is more understanding and acceptance for the free speech of hookers than preachers. free speech is far different from the government's endorsement of religion. Its not free speech at all... The government simply can't start putting up monuments all over this country with jesus on the cross.
  10. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) Is anyone still nieve enough to think diplomacy is gonna work on Ahmenenajad & these guys? No... nobody is naive enough to think they are just going to stop on their own. But the bigger problem is that the US is unable to launch the type of full scale assault necessary to deter Iran (and other nations in the future) from building these weapons. If we were not bogged down in Iraq (chasing WMD that don't actually exist), we could be going after the one we KNOW are building nuclear weapons. Yet by the perverse logic of the present administration, we have invaded, occupied, and spent billions on the one nation of the "axis of evil" that was least likely to develop nukes. Nothing can be done about North Korea... that cat is out of the bag... but we could have been able to stop Iran. Now our vast military infrastructure (along with most of our military's intellectual and manpower resources) are committed to the near impossible task of preventing civil war in a country we didn't need to invade in the first place. Its shockingly stupid
  11. I'm beginning to think that everyone in cycling is doping...
  12. I'm packing it up and leaving the country.... I've decided to go to europe for the next week or so and see how things go while I'm over there. If they continue to lose, at least I'll be far removed from the agony
  13. Can you imagine how bad this would feel if we hadn't won the world series last year? Think of how miserable you would feel if we got so close last year, had great expectations coming into this season that we would finally win one, and then this happens. So i guess it could be worse. 2005, the greatest year of my life.... (although junior year of college was pretty close too)
  14. I think its time that Ozzie trash the clubhouse... you know, rip up a few couches... toss some tables, etc. Scare them; they need it...
  15. QUOTE(supernuke @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) This teams got no marbles. maybe we can trade for pedro cerrano... ... or perhaps Isuro Tanaka
  16. If you're looking for a reason to smile, Jose Valentin just hit a baseloaded single in the bottom of the 10th for the mets to beat the cubs 1-0
  17. QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) Outside of Little League, I've only seen the fake to third throw to first play work once... Sean Lowe against the Cubs, can anyone else think of one. And spiff, why the contact play there? 1 out, 1st and 2nd Old Blackjack McDowell had a great fake to third, pick off move. Back in the day, he'd get two or three a year.
  18. woah... we are off to a really negative thread already
  19. the management of this baseball team has been very poor of late... It pisses me off that Dye wasn't in the lineup today... I don't care what he did yesterday. These games against divisional foes matter.
  20. As I go player by player through the twins lineup, the only guy they have that is substantially better than his sox positional counterpart is Mauer... sigh
  21. At this point, I'm ready to make javy vazquez a 5 inning starting pitcher... honestly, that third time through the lineup kills him
  22. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) The interesting thing is that the original rumor was linked to the MacDougal report. The MacDougal deal actually happened, which legitimizes the source. So either the source was pretty close originally, and Kenny backed off because of BMac, or this was a rumor leaked by the White Sox conveniently attached to accurate information regarding MacDougal to give it legitimacy. great point
  23. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) hey fathom, i know your source said that the soriano jerseys were to be ordered earlier....does that assume that they are not now and the deal may be off? Practically every rumor, including the one from ESPN that started this whole deal, was that McCarthy was the central piece of the deal for soriano. With six full days left to go before the deadline, this seems pretty logical. Most of the speculation here is that if KW says McCarthy's not going anyplace, the deal probably isn't going to happen. As always, we're riding the ebb and flow of limited information we possess. So yes the deal is not absolutely dead.... but based on what we've heard all day, it seems like the Nats want McCarthy. If there's nine hours left before the deadline, I'd feel like there is a chance we could nail the Nats on some hybrid deal not involving mccarthy... but that's not the case. Edit DAA84: I really couldn't say it on the phone at the time.... also, vanderbilt sucks at the game of footbal
  24. QUOTE(bmags @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) seriously, he's a young dude who went nuts and hit fifty home runs in a sad lineup. in a huge ball park, in the same season where he's got a great shot to be only the 4th 40/40 guy in the history of major league baseball.
