  1. that wasn't a meatball... actually buerhle had a few nice pitches that inning... particularly that curve to vlad. that home run was a fluke. thats an ichiro type home run. tip your cap and move on.
  2. Bruce Froemming is the second base ump tonight.... When he umps second, the defenses have a lot less field to cover than when anyone else umps at second base.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Thome is going yard. This really isn't related to the game thread, but I was thinking today that it seems like the really really huge home runs are all hit by left handed batters.... Is that just cause the biggest bombers are mostly lefties (ie bonds, howard, thome)? or is there some other reason for that? I was think of it in the context of whether anyone could hit a homer into the fundamentals deck... It seems impossible for righties, but those bombs that leave SBC park or that one Howard hit to the third deck of citizens bank seem like they be closer than anything righties hit....
  4. if your gonna have an ugly strike out, you might as well do it on pitch 12
  5. Sometimes I get that pre-game ditty on comcast stuck in my head...
  6. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) Detroit wins on a walk-off homer. i HATE carlos guillen
  7. QUOTE(G&T @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) Mags with a DP to end the eighth. I hear Mags is developing a Frank Thomas-esqe relationship with the media up there in detroit...
  8. Wes Littleton, who's been pretty rediculous this year, is in for Texas against the motor city pussycats
  9. Anybody think we might actually see Mack in center in a playoff game? (assuming we make it)...
  10. I hope Vincente Padilla and Kirk Sarloos both pitch brilliantly tonight...
  11. I was in bed in my fraternity house. A couple of guys who saw the intial coverage went room-to-room and woke everybody up. I turned it on shortly after the second plane hit. After I was woken up, i spent the first 30 seconds of the day thinking it was a couple cessena's and there must have been some major air traffic control glitch. I never imagined the magnitude of the actual attack. 30 second later I found my remote and flipped on my TV. Once I saw the TV coverage, it was obvious that it was a terrorist attack. In a strage way, the scariest part of the day was when they began reporting that the Pentagon was hit.... then a report (which was false) that a car bomb blew up the state department), then a report of at least one other hi-jacked plane. I remember thinking "What's next?"... "How many more attacks are coming today?" For the first time in my life, our country was under attack. I was the student senate president at Illinois Wesleyan. After the towers fell, I got a call that classes were canceled for the day. I'll never forget that day...
  12. Would Gore running be good? In a word "No." Same for Hillary. The Dems are going to have to win with a Mark Warner/Russ Feingold/Evan Bayh type guy.... They need a new face. McCain would be a hands down winner in the general election. He'd unite a good chunk of middle america. A LOT of Dem's would probably vote for him (maybe even myself). The fact that John McCain might have a difficult time getting the republican nomination is all you need to know about the republican party. He's an absolute winner... respected by practically everyone. Yet, there are concerns that he's not "conservative enough" for many hard-core right wingers. So far, the right has hi-jacked his previous presidential aspirations. If they do it again, it says A TON about what the real republican party is...
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) They do sound good. DJ sounds more confident as a PBP guy, I think. yeah i agree.... maybe its cause pbp is a little more mindless than color
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Too bad the Clonies have a night game tomorrow, because Black Jack was by far my favorite fill in announcer last year. I liked Blackjack, but I actually though Robin Ventura was the best last year.
  15. Hmm... Wouldn't a jury be able to hear defenses which would reduce the charge from murder to voluntary manslaughter? If the evidence of sexual assault is compelling, I think a jury might nullify the verdict. It's rare, but its happened before.
  16. The bottom photo is definitely the harold washington library. I think the first one is either state or rush street... Edit: After looking at it a little closer, its definitely rush street... probably near its intersection with grand. you can see the Saks fifth avenue building and Tower... those are both on Michigan which would be one block east. So I think its Rush street near around grand avenue or so...
  17. I can't believe how unbelievably stupid this guy was to step foot in the United States. Its astonshingly dumb. These internet gambling sites are set up as off-shore corps for a reason. If he stays on the Isle of Man or the Cook Islands he's safe. Its probably reasonably safe if he resides in Britain.... The Isle of Man is nice.... the population is educated, there's practically no tax, the weather is tolerable, its less than an hour and half to London. As long as these morons avoid the U.S. no jurisidiction, beit Isle of Man, Cook Islands, or even England, is going to honor a U.S. arrest warrant. Basically, they have carte blanche to do whatever the hell they want. By the way, I don't know if the Feds can get these guys under the Federal Wire Act. Its going to have to be states (with large gambling lobbys) like Nevada, Louisiana, New Jersey, etc. that do all the investigating, indiciting and trials. With all the elaborate appellate hoops their convictions would case, I'm sure it would have to go to SCOTUS. So this is a helluva long way from being over.
  18. You're post title is hilarious for reasons savvy simpsons fans ought to pick up. very well done
  19. Seriously, this had to be the result of some type of wager right? There's got to be other unknown details to this story. In college, a guy in my fraternity, completely nude except for a santa hat in the middle of december, walked from the fraternity house, into the library, up the stairs to the top floor, found a book, walked back downstairs, waited in line, and checked the book out. The old lady librarian working at the desk was giggling like a school girl. Obviously the result of a lost wager... There had to be something else going on here...

  21. Anyone wanna guess which movie I voted for?
  22. There is no Trade Winds, so I guess I'll post this here: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padre...31padnotes.html From the San Diego Union-Tribune. Take it for what its worth. Its not even september.... but if its true, it shows the white sox plans regarding a certain left fielder presently on the team
