QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) How hard is it to score tickets? Should I buy them the day they go on sale? And are bleachers worth sitting in and are they always $10? It's not hard to score tickets NORMALLY against the White Sox, but I don't know if this year will be different considering we're the Champs. Buying them the day they go on sale isn't a bad idea to be safe. I don't mind the bleachers. As Steff said, it's an alcohol free section - but the craiziest/most hardcore fans sit there, so if you wear Sox gear, you're sure to have an interesting time. I usually go to a bar or place that sells beer and pop a few down before the game...works for me. EDIT: If you do bleachers, don't do them for every game b/c you won't have access to the rest of the stadium (including monument park). The bleachers are a seperate entrance.

QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) Every year me and some friends go to a forgien city for a Sox game. This year it's new york cause it's over a weekend. Me and 6-10 others will be invading NYC and hitting all the spots like scores and all the bars that are cool. A guy coming along is a born and bred new yorker from manhattan, its going to be awesome. Awesome dude! I grew up on the South Side, but I live in Manhattan and go to law school. I do the 16 game plan in the bleachers (tickets only $10 each) so that way I get all the Boston, Mets, and whatever other games I want (White Sox!). If it's your first time there, it'll be especially cool for you. Make sure you get there early and tour monument park one of the days - the stadium will only be around 3 more seasons (new one in 2009).

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) I can't even begin to put last night's live expierence into words. It was the most mind-blowing, electric sporting event I have ever witnessed bar none. Nearly 24 hours later and the mere thought of last night brings a tear to my eye. So. Damn. Proud/Happy. Good Post Addison! I was lucky enough to be there in the Upper Deck (Friend's dad works for the Hall of Fame and scored us 2 tickets - I just had to pay face value) and I don't think I will ever see a better game. It was absolutely electric there at Comiskey. After Paulie & Scotty's HR, I thought the place was going to explode.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) I will be at Bourbon St the night of 10/22 with my girls (bachlorette party). Thankfully I live around the corner so if I start feeling happy, I am just a few blocks from home! Woo hoo I live in NY now, but I grew up in Mt. Greenwood, about a mile from Bourbon St...used to be all about those Long Island Thursdays! If I surface there, I will look for you
-
QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Exactly! I am just thrilled to say the opportunity was there and I tried. QP, you are great! I love your disposition. Man, I'm so bummed, but I should've known better. I had like 10 people helping me out here in NY and tried calling all 50 states to no avail :banghead Oh well, I think I'm going to fly in to Chitown and hit up a tailgate, Jimbo's or Bourbon St. with friends anyway.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) i look like a bum myself and wont be carrying anything on me ive stayed on the streets of hollywood alone for a couple days (accually sleeping on the streets) never been to chi town except for once so i dont know what to expect. Well, look into some different options...My sister and my 95 year old grandfather ride that line and nothing bad has happened to any of my family members. Let me know if you need more info
-
QUOTE(hi8is @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) wow, good good good to know how far is it from the park? any idea how much cabs cost? and would you really be willing to hook me up with a ride? thanks again amigos. It's not a great area, but personally I think you'd be fine. But then again, I grew up on the south side and took that route to work everyday for a while, so maybe you wouldn't be comfortable.
-
QUOTE(hi8is @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) thanks NYsox35! keep the good info commin! Well, do you want a real s***ty, cheap place to stay? If so, a few come to mind in Oak Lawn...if you want something more mid range, I can help you with that too. Here is the transportation info: here is the bus that takes you down 95th street from Oak lawn to the Chicago "Red Line" train: http://www.pacebus.com/sub/schedules/route...asp?RouteNo=381 Here is the Red Line Info (you'd take it from 95th to 35th street): http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/rail/red/95th.pdf http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/rail/red/Sox-35th.pdf http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/rail/rail.html All in all, it's about a 1 hour trip. Here is a hotel that is cheap but not overly s***ty: Holiday Inn Chicago-Sw-Oaklawn,Il 4140 West 95th Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453 (708) 425-7900 Starting Rate: $51 There is an even s***tier place called JC Miami (I think) on 91 and Cicero Try Ohio house downtown also 600 N. Lasalle (312) 943-6000 You could take the Red Line from the Grand or Chicago Stops to 35th Street. Hope that helps
-
I'd recommend staying in Oak Lawn (a SW Suburb of Chicago). You'd be on the south side, closer to the stadium. There is a bus that goes east down 95th street that would take you to the "Red Line" train that goes to Comiskey at 35th Street (kind of a ghetto ride, but you'll be fine). There are some cheap and really cheap places to stay in Oak Lawn. EDIT: Even better would be if you could afford somewhere in the loop (downtown), but this is more expensive. THere is one s***ty place I can think of, the Ohio House, but I have no clue what their rates are.

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) The Socre won't let me listen live. I'm gonna see if 1000 does. Really? I had a problem until I disabled my popup blocker and tried again...they're taking calls on the score until 5am Central Time

Illini & All still listening/posting, it's good to know I'm not the only lunatic out there

QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) My college days are a good five years behind me, but I'm getting back into shape with some 12 oz. curls this evening. There's no way I could sleep, between periods of damn near crying while watching highlight movies and listening to Thunderstruck about 74 times. Nice work on the curls...You should really be in "shape" for the World Series now! Awesome on the movies...I've been listening to thunderstruck a ton too and have obsessively watched the ALCS Game 2 video set to "winning it all" by the outfield. It's awesome! Are you in FL? Making it to chicago at all? I'm gonna try to head in for game 6-7 (Even if I don't get tickets)...do you see a 6 game series happening?

My Dad has always been a Yankee fan, and up until this year, has always liked the Cubs more than the Sox. Well, once Sammy left town, he started rooting for the Sox and would always call me and say "Sox Fest, Baseball's Best", which I guess was a slogan from the '83 season (I was 3, so I don't know). He was really into the race between us and STL this year for the best record. Now he's been wearing around a 1917 style WSox hat and is as big a fan as me, my mom and the rest of my family and friends. Go Sox!

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 03:23 AM) I'm not certain about NYSox, but I know I have to wake up at 6:45 this morning for school. Just can't sleep now. Yeah, I usually would wake up at around 8 for my class, but at this point I think my best bet is to stay awake...I can't sleep for the foreseeable future. Starbucks man, Starbucks!
-
QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) Don't you have class in the morning? UGH!...haha, yep 9am Corporations and 11am Professional Responsibility... it will not be a fun 3 hours, but I just cannot sleep... I tried and everything! Don't you?!?!
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 03:19 AM) I heard your phone call. Can't believe you had to ask a bartender to tune into the White Sox game. haha, nice, you heard my baritone voice checking in... Yeah, it's a big sports bar in "Hells Kitchen" (my neighborhood)...when I got there, only 1 small tv was on the astros/cards game and the rest were on NE/Denver football... well when the game was wrapping up, I asked for some tvs on the White Sox. They gave me 2 small ones near my area, but not the one I actually asked for...damn NY'ers - their yanks are gone so they don't care. However, I converted 2 of my law school classmates into WSox fans...they are actually considering a trip home with me if I somehow, PLEASE GOD!, get tickets...

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) Oh hell yeah. It makes the night so much more exciting for us wierd self-employed types. Thanks for the tip on this guys...I am so keyed up right now I can't sleep...I just called in from NY, NY!

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) I already booked my train to come back home for the weekend. I NEED tickets some how some way, I'm not going to lie, I might kill for tickets if necessary. If you guys were me, would you come this weekend or next? I'm going to try like hell for tickets, but wouldn't mind just soaking up the neighborhood vibe and seeing family and friends (I'm from S Side, but am in NY now) I'm thinking of gambling and going for game 6-7 weekend...thoughts??

Win it for...My Grandfather, a lifetime South Sider and big Sox fan, who died in 1992, even before our last ALCS appearance. Win it for...All White Sox fans from the South Side and all over the globe, past and present. For those who haven't gotten to see this magical run, and for those of us who have! Go White Sox!

I wasn't around last night, so I don't know if this was discussed, but did anyone notice just how much Mccarver felt the need to talk about "Bad calls" affecting the Angels. The one that stands out in my mind is the "Catcher Interference" - he wouldn't let it go for literally 2-3 innings. It was tough to listen to, but when you're winning like that, I can tolerate it
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) Every game gets bigger, but with a 2-1 lead and home field yanked back, there should be less pressure. PROPS for the lineup - they were DISCIPLINED at the plate, and that was the difference. They do that the rest of the way, we're going to the PROMISED LAND! Holy s*** - 2 more wins - TWO MORE WINS. It's almost reality... who'd a thunk it? I agree...getting this one at LA and against Lackey was huge...the Media can shut the F up about "the call" now... more importantly, we're guaranteed more baseball on the South Side. I really like our chances for at least 1 more game in Anaheim, getting us closer to the ultimate prize. Guys, I haven't posted much on here, but I've read posts all season long, and though I'm in NY, I feel like I'm still on the Southwest Side where I grew up. This has been such a special season...let's bring it home!!!!
-
WOW!!!! Nicely done... I actually got chills when I saw the crowd jumping up and down after Crede's hit and when the team mobs him at the end of the game... Guys, let's win this thing!!!

Hey, No, I copied my original writing to paste on here. I did a spell check before sending to him.

Here is the link: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ArDN...ov=ap&type=lgns This article really annoyed me. It's one thing when Mariotti and the Cubune bash us (people in Chicago generally know what is/isn't true with our city's teams), but it's another when a national writer focuses only on our negatives and bashes us in this way. Here is my response to the author. (I'm working on a project now but will be back later...go White Sox!) Hello Jim, Thanks for the great portrayal of the White Sox. It's nice to see yet another writer focus on all the negative attributes of the team's history. Couldn't you have worked in how nice a stadium Wrigley is and how many fans the Cubs draw while you were at it? No, we don't have a cute stadium, celebrity fans, a curse, or our own "nation." Guess what though, we like it that way. Our focus has always been on our team and not the peripheral things you mention. While we aren't tops in attendnence, there are factors other than what you mention that play into that (No train to the stadium from the Suburbs, working class fan base, fans don't show up if we're fielding a bad team in a given year). Beating Boston in the first round was particularly sweet. No one wanted us in the playoffs or expected us to do anything. We not only beat the defending champs, we swept them and ended their season in their own park. Personally, I am rooting for the Yankees, because it would be particularly sweet to beat the most storied franchise in baseball history and head to the world series, creating some history for ourselves that you say we lack in the process. That being said, seeing Anaheim in the ALCS wouldn't kill me. However, it might kill you and the rest of the media. I mean, what would you write about with no Boston, New York, or even the Cubs being involved. To borrow Al Davis' line, White Sox fans (remember, we don't have a "nation" like you said) have always had the mentality of "Just Win Baby." When we do win, don't jump on our bandwagon. There won't be any room for you on the South Side express.
