  1. This Orioles broadcast is awful. The play by play guy has said so many dumb things through an inning I think he's outpacing Hawk easily. "batters only hit .197 to leadoff against Sale" "batter only hit .207 against sale with runners on". Blah, blah, blah you do understand that those numbers are normal for a guy with a .87 WHIP, right? final straw were these two gems: "Chris Sales" and then: Jose hasn't hit a HR in 79 games apparently. Uh, you mean PA dumbass?
  2. Seems like Sale's fastball command hasn't been that good the past month.
  3. love having Avi back, makes the games much more exciting.
  4. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 07:37 PM) Conor is a doubles machine and should be hitting in an RBI spot... maybe 5th or 6th. Ideally I'd like: Eaton De Aza Conor Jose Garcia Dunn Ramirez Beckham Flowers
  5. have we gotten any word on whatsup with Eaton? He's eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday I think.
  6. So 1 month into Rodon the biggest question is how many IP he throws next year in MLB. Thanks Marlins and Astros!
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) Pitched well. 6 innings, 2 runs, 2 home runs. Nice, saw him in the spring wished him good luck and he tipped the cap to me. Seems like a good guy that just comes into work and does his job without asking for much in return.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) Did Appel do well to start off last year? Not really, he's been pretty bad since being drafted. He was OK last year but that's in low A and below. If he was a 4th or 5th round pick you'd say OK growing pains but for a guy taken 1st overall he hasn't shown much. Just looking at his stats this year it seems he's had control issues -- 19 walks in 64 IP and that's in AA and A+.
  9. QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) De Aza defense > Danks bat. There's no reasonable argument over who the better player is. Better per dollar or better fit for the 2015 White Sox, those might be arguments. Personally I don't think either is a part of the plan. Viciedo is the odd man out. De Aza should be the 4th OF / Rotating DH IMO. Cut bait on Tank, get a real LF in and then De Aza is your super sub getting 400 PA. Not a bad plan for a contender. They have to improve the bench next year as well if they want to squeeze out a another win or two.
  10. It's obvious that the Sox think more of De Aza than Tank as it's Tank that is on the bench when Avi is healthy. If anything, it's Viciedo that is persona non grata in the org (as he should be imo, his profile gets more and more Wily Mo Pena esque with every passing PA).
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) I was perhaps the biggest fan of De Aza getting his shot when he got it, I think he'll earn his contract in general if he is brought back but here I have to say, no. He does not fit where this roster needs to go. He should have been dealt last offseason to avoid having to make this decision if he had a bad year. If offered Arb, we're talking about having him on a 1 year, $6-ish million deal. If De Aza was available as a free agent for 1 year, $6 million, would you say that was a good use of resources? I wouldn't. He's a guy who could potentially help fill a hole on a team for a year if they're looking to compete, but he's not a long-term option and he's not going to be easily traded unless he starts off on a roll that he never found this year. When we signed a guy like Paulino, or Downs, we could say "that gives us a chance to hold him if he gets better, trade him this season if he can bring a return, or at least have a solution for multiple years if he does well". None of those are the case with De Aza. If we're looking at a $75 million or lower payroll next year and not bringing anyone big in, then I'd rather take a chance on a reclamation project with several years of team control for that money. If we're looking at a higher payroll, then we have to ask whether De Aza fills the team's needs and that's a hard sell to me as well. Yea but it's not like he couldn't be flipped. He's established a pretty good baseline as a 1.5 to 2.5 WAR player, that has value and for 5-7 million I'd have no problem bringing him back either because the Sox think they can contend or as a flippable bat at the deadline or even winter meetings.
  12. I would have zero problem with a rotating DH next year and De Aza could be part of that. The Sox have enough guys that could use the occasional rest from the field (Eaton, Avi, Jose) and enough decent outfielders to where you could get De Aza and Tank a start or two a week at DH along with Jose and even Adam on occasion. Ideally a fairly big upgrade (talking 2 WAR) at 2B and LF and SP allows the Sox to enter '15 in contention without spending much money on DH.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 12:10 AM) I guess Noesi, sadly. Depends on how much they trust EJ on possibly rebounding or how fast they think Beck or Bassitt can develop. Then you've got to see how they think Adams/Montas/Danish/Martinez develop. EJ isn't even a pimple on Coop's ass right now imo, he's been brutal and was recently shut down with "shoulder tightness" or something. Sale Q Rodon Noesi Danks that won't fly IMO they need at least 2 more guys to compete and ideally Rodon wouldn't come up until May.
  14. all the new guys are likeable, keep clearing out the dead wood.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 10:15 PM) Remember this when people start complaining next year about his lack of power. If he hits 290/350/480 with 40 doubles he'll be worth roughly 4 war assuming his other tools develop a bit more defensively and on the bases. He might never be much of a power hitter, but a poor man's Mags wouldn't be bad either.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 06:26 PM) Stanton now leads MLB with 32 HR. Ortiz leads in RBI with 91. He's kinda muddling a long (certainly most players would take his "muddling along") but he's getting jammed inside now so that's the next adjustment.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) Avi... If we can ever get him and Eaton and Jose and Conor going at the same time lookout. Actually, that might be next year. The future is looking good imo. Avi looks like he hasn't missed a beat I love how he hits laser beam after laser beam the other way.
  18. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) I'll be glad to not see f***ing Scott Carroll on the bump next year. Yea no more Beckham, Carroll and Dunn please.
  19. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) f***ing Dunn. I'll be glad when he's gone. I hope we sign Victor in the offseason to put behind Abreu They started the cleanse last year but the stench of bad teams won't be fully gone until Dunn and Beckham are gone and they find a couple back end starters.
  20. Well this is fun. Having another big presence in the lineup with Avisial makes a big difference, more than on paper perhaps.
