  1. thanks, missed it live. figured it was, he's still not aggressive enough with 2 strikes.
  2. Was only 20 years ago but might as well be a different era. Even 20 years ago most starters were topping out around 92-93. Sitting above that was considered elite velo. Now you're lucky to see anybody throwing below 94-95 in any inning. Just a lot of sports science improvement across the board.
  3. I faced Jim Dieters in DIII, was mid round draft pick for the Tribe and might have had a shot at MLB before he blew his arm out. I went 0-3 with three K, as a LHB, he was basically unhittable at that level. He was throwing mid to high 80s with a nasty breaking ball. Always fun to see guys from lower levels in pro ball.
  4. Such a slow ass bat so he starts his load too early to adjust to off speed
  5. chase and quero are legit talents. might not be better than average regulars, but they are talented.
  6. Did we set the position player used record last year? Maybe we can break our own mark if so.
  7. Pretty sure we'll wake up to Vaughn as the newly crowed negative fWAR leader. 1/5 tonight with 3Ks that brings his wRC+ up to a rousing 30. At least he hit that little flair for an RBI I guess...
  8. It's just bad players. We only remember half the errors these bums make because it's a 2-2 games instead of 6-1 due to lack of talent at everything baseball, not just "fundamentals". Again, I get it, it's an easy thing to point to and lord knows we aren't good at it, but it's just downstream of shitty rosters.
  9. To paraphrase Ozzie, is it too little emphasis on the "fundamentals" that leads to a lack of "fundamentals"? Nah, just too many horse bleep players.
  10. It's a decent start, we've got a really, really, really long way to go. Need about 4x that amount of decent players. The good teams usually have 30-40 WAR. We'll be lucky to get 5 this year.
  11. I've watched probably like 1K baseball games at least halfway at this point, maybe even 2k. Hawk is 100% accurate when he said 30 years ago your bullpen is only as good as your offense. And Bill James was right 40 years ago when he said 1 run games are basically crap shoots. Good teams score runs in bunches when the starter has nothing and pad the lead so the least talented pitchers on the roster can't even think about blowing it most nights. That's just how it goes. I get what you're reacting to, it's just really not the root issue. The root issue is the offense once again is one of the worst in MLB history.
  12. This game was lost in the first few innings when the Sox took the absolute least amount of runs they could have given how shitty the pitching was for the Brew Crew and the defense made Smith work way too hard and gave away at least two runs.
