A Tale of Two Cities . . . MLB Expansion.
I think I just figured they contracted the As and would start fresh with a new brand in Vegas.

A Tale of Two Cities . . . MLB Expansion.
I don't fucking know. They already got plans? I was just doing a drive by post but cynically I'd expect Vegas, it's where all the leagues want to be I guess.

Vegas. Can almost guarantee Vegas will be one. As for the other I think it will be somewhere in the south east. Either Charlotte or Nashville.

Tony La Russa Adamant He Is Not The Decision Maker
Same problem his ignition lock gives him.

Tony La Russa Adamant He Is Not The Decision Maker
JR catches a lot of heat for making bad hires, you're almost there Tony. JFC, I defended this dude more than most but FFS why the hell is he even involved AT ALL in the franchise right now?

Cease To Padres per Passan
And that we never got? Those days sucked too, to be real.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Yea, give me position players as well. Pitching everything else being equal, is just more prone to injury risk and sudden changes in true talent. Try and build a decent core around Colson and whoever comes back in the Cease trade and figure out the pitching once that is hopefully accomplished.

New York Mets sign Trayce Thompson to a minor league deal
Always glad to see Trayce's name pop up as a signing. He will have a chance to break camp with the big club. He's a good guy and in another universe with a healthier body maybe turns into an everyday regular or even all star player.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Is this that guy's first offseason? These things tend to go slowly and then all at once. Someone has to "set" the market usually and then there's a flurry of deals. Other times it doesn't go like this and a potential deal just simmers and simmers and simmers before getting done once the pressure of getting the roster set by late February arrives in late winter. The offseason has just started. Nobody wants to rush a deal just for the sake of getting something done.

Jung Hoo Lee
Oh analytics wise I think it's a stupid move. But the Giants could throw 115 million down a drain in the Tenderloin district and be no worse for wear. The league is printing money, and in this fiscal environment is by far the safest vehicle to protect and build generational wealth. My point was more that bad contracts come in all shapes and sizes, and with the Sox, a lot of "less risky" deals (because they are shorter years or dollars) are just as "risky" (again, it's all relative, nobody is going bankrupt here) and moreso even as you're wasting more roster spots.

Jung Hoo Lee
Funny thing is we wasted that amount and then some on the Grandal and Beni signings. It's better to lose with the money spread out to mid players in JR's broken brain.
-
Jung Hoo Lee
I feel like teams paying what they can afford (easily) says more about the Sox' cheapness than anything else.

Jung Hoo Lee
Sure, but you have to pay SOME of it, and that's SOMETHING too much -- JR

Colson is just an alien
Nice puff piece on Colson, didn't know he was up to 17 on MLB Pipeline rankings. Just one data point, but that's a fun one to see.

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
Baseball is both fine and broken. It is a regional sport and always will be. It is more similar to CFB than the NFL. Depending on who you root for you will have a very different experience.

meh.

Sox Sign Erick Fedde - 2 years, $15 million
Position player wise, it will be hard to be worse, even assuming we don't make any other big signings or deals. Pitching wise? We'll be awful, but not so much more that some improved defense won't offset part of it.

Sox Sign Erick Fedde - 2 years, $15 million
Ya, and the best case scenario is we bounce back enough to be a decent (so like 80 wins) but not good team and are able to flip some guys to start competing against in 2025. I'm not going to be watching many games, but at this point in the offseason at least Getz seems to have realized what has to be done.

Sox Sign Erick Fedde - 2 years, $15 million
He's just a flip candidate, nothing more, nothing less. For our purposes this year, that's fine.

Max Stassi Acquired
the problem with moncada is a bad back. when he does this for the rest of his career before retiring at 32 people will get it.

Sox Sign Erick Fedde - 2 years, $15 million
The moves are fine, needed, and will move the franchise forward on the long and hard road of building (again) a core of guys you can rely on to sustain success. I just wish the franchise realized that the few remaining fans are almost all die hards and you don't have to try and sell this as a retool. Just admit failure and move on.
