I was thinking about this last night as well. I have been inclined to say "be patient" and "give him a couple years" but as you said, it's quite hard to swing and miss so badly on all the types he brought in without a serious flaw in your player evaluation process. Given that Getz was part and parcel of the failed Hahn era that saw the same flawed process maybe it is already time to say enough.

Picked up .1 WAR somehow in that drubbing yesterday. Getz talked about defense right? Well, FG's has the Sox a staggering 28 runs below average so far, easily worst in the majors. Next worst is LAA at -21. Three of the four worst players in MLB are on the Sox. Only Nick Castellonos' poor start saved us from having all three. Beni at -1.6, Vaugh at -1.2 and Martin at -1.3.

Over the last 210 or so games the White Sox have zero or slightly negative fWAR for their position players. Yes, you read that right. We are fielding a AAAA team, almost literally.

He's good. As soon as his HR/FB rate normalized his ERA got down to where it should be. He's also pitching in front of the league's worst defense. He's at 1.5 fWAR, 15th in MLB, right behind Cease at 1.6 fWAR.

True, but scared money don't make money. We need good SP if we're ever going to go anywhere. We know JR won't sign any good FA SP so this is our only path.

I get it, the trade off is 4 years of control. Maybe you could sweeten the buyout if you want to defer a bit more or offer a 5th year. Too bad so much of our payroll is tied up in bums.

I'd offer Garrett 3 years 55 million with a club option for a 4th at 25 million right now. He gets security and Sox get an asset with surplus value if he stays healthy. If he doesn't, well it's only 3 year 55 million and the buyout. Kopech just sell high at the deadline or sooner. No reason to play with fire there.
