He's produced about 2 fWAR in 3/4 of a season at the MLB level, most of that before he turned 23. Yea I'd prefer he had a better last month but this is far from a situation like Viciedo or even Avi, where a guy is entering his third or fourth pro season and is still hovering around replacement level. It's stupid but we really just need to be patient and stop trying to evaluate on a night by night basis. I am guilty of this myself.

Fortunes rise and fall with young toolsy guys in MLB. Look at Sano, who coming off a 2.3 fWAR season (wRC+ 124) is now being sent down to A ball to work himself out. What has been shown to us in a 1/3 of a seasonmay be far from what we see this time next year. I'd give these guys a 2-3 year sample before concluding too much either way.

You can see why the Cubs took the opportunity to upgrade with Maddon. Ricky is a really bad day to day tactical manager. I'd love to see Girardi next year.

Garland's main value was pitching around 210 innings every year with an ERA+ around 100. Garland had a nice career but Covey, at least in theory, would be better on a per inning basis, if not capable of throwing 210 innings every year.

Interesting tidbit from the Fangraphs rankings. Mize, the #1 overall pick, would slot in 4TH in Chicago's system. That's crazy. He'd barely be ahead of Madrigal for 5th.

How many Sox prospects have we seen come up and absolutely crater, produce negative WAR in their first couple seasons? A lot. It's a testament to Yoan's talent that even though he's absolutely scuffling he's still 2nd on the team in fWAR for position players. That said, he needs a day off and some work in the cage.

His arm and instincts on double plays are by far his best defensive assets. Overall he remains well below average 1B defensively.
