  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 05:38 PM) Very Cubs like decision. Does agreeing to a PPD game help either team as far as the suspensions? No.
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) I'm not sure about his last start but the one before that it was said he throw up to 95 and sat around 92. Which is encouraging Agreed, now they need him to stay there.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 05:24 PM) They are slowly bringing him along, I don't think call up is a good idea. Also with his velocity issues they might want to keep him as a starter rather than using him out of the pen for now.
  4. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) So I guess Rodon is going to get his first ML start sooner rather than later. If the appeals process takes several weeks he could be at the point where his arm is "no longer stretched out" and therefore not be a reasonable option.
  5. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 12:22 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 6m6 minutes ago In addition, White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers has received an undisclosed fine. I wonder why he was fined? He did supposedly stand up as the big guy and cause another guy to back off physically. Didn't take a swing at someone but was a noticeable enforcer. Fine is probably fair.
  6. Major earthquake in Nepal, casualty toll likely to close in on or pass 10,000.
  7. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) My feed is pretty behind so I just got up to people discussing the order. I would like to see Micah at the 2 spot. With his speed and pretty good batting average so far he needs more AB's not just 3 a game. I would have Melky in the 5 hole with Alexei, Connor, Avi, and Flowers round out the lineup. With as young as Micah is I really don't want to put him under that much pressure yet.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) Is he still subject to suspension or no? Angels have to be eating all of that contract. No, MLB decided not to suspend him.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 05:17 PM) How long are the appeals processes these days? They used to be ridiculous. Long enough that I think people still drop them to time suspensions in a way that helps the team.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) I'd love to hear your rationale here. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Don Cooper's reputation has reached ridiculous levels. If Cooper told the Sox he thought Q had potential and that he was undervalued -- great. But to credit him with all of Q's success is absurd. Cooper has failed dozens of times with reclamation projects, does he take the blame for those? Of course not. He's just a coach. A good one, but a coach. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) I agree, but I want to hear Balta's counter... That original post was made in response to DA's post that Cooper deserves the blame for what is happening to the rotation this year on his own as he's the one who runs the pitching staff. The response to that is that if Cooper deserves all the blame this year, then he also deserves credit for creating a 5 WAR pitcher the last couple years, making him worth $20 million+ a season. Clearly the last one is not true, but that also illustrates how the former is not true either.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) So they need fire and passion, but not when their teammates get targeted. Got it. Frankly, yeah. There has to be a "Don't ****ing get yourself suspended" limit.
  12. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) For no reason? Do you know what Eaton said? Gotta say on this one...the Royals right now remind me of the recent Detroit Lions. I hesitate to condemn our team for getting a little rough with a team that's embracing their "be a bully" side as a way to come together. I will say that guys like Shark, Sale have to be better. They can go up to the point where they get suspended, but if they get beyond that and do draw a suspension, they physically cost the team wins. Ditto for anyone else who gets tossed.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Scumbag pitcher hits our best player, scumbag pitcher tells our leadoff hitter to f*** off for no reason and it's Robin's fault the whole team got involved. That's a total copout. If you want to get made about something from the 3rd base dugout you get mad Sale/Samardzija went ape or that their teammates didn't do better to hold them off. Ok, thank you for calling him Robin. I'm getting lost in posts trying to figure out which Ventura is which.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) Did you ever play? It doesn't seem like. This "shaming" idea and letting cooler heads prevail seems like a societal approach that can't be applied to a bunch of testosterone filled athletes. On the field it's all about respect and having your boys back. Everybody good team has a chip on their shoulder one way or another. It's worth noting though that we're now likely to lose a game or more because of that uncontrolled chip on people's shoulder.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) ND football and Cubs pitcher equals the ideal villain for many Sox fans. Let's not forget Hawk talking all sorts of trash about him after he drilled PK. Plus Valpo.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) I have to come he conclusion that Samardzija is just that dude who f***s the humble main character's ex girlfriend in beginning of a '90s movie. I love to have him, but I'd hate him if I were a fan of another team. Valpo and Notre Dame. Bout sums it up for me.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Hitting Cain intentionally the first series of the seaon. This all goes back to last year and him getting after Cain and Ventura when he played for the A's. There's clearly more than meets the eye going on in terms of the backstory with those three...and the Samardzija also getting after Christian Colon from the dugout last night While I don't disagree with the "More there than we know"...it's also odd how it took Samardzija like 3 minutes before he really went after a guy. That suggests to me it was something said right there that pushed over the edge.
  18. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) If this is related to a certain someone calling a certain RBI in a certain gamethread yesterday.. I would like to apologize, but damn, that was pretty funny. In a game thread, there's a difference between saying "oh f*** you" in a way that's in jest and clearly making it personal. Up to a point we'll look the other way on the ones that are "clearly pretty funny" but there's a level of control necessary. Same thing with some of the language used regarding players and managers.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 01:17 PM) You're only getting a little bit of the overall conversation which was a carry over from another thread. Exactly the point. It doesn't need to carry over.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Are you saying it is OK to blast Robin because the majority of the site incorrectly blames him for everything? Just look at what was posted. I did nothing wrong. The original post was "Kris Bryant is playing CF today". No one mentioned how Robin Ventura would be viewed if he'd made that call until you did. If "how would Robin Ventura be viewed if he did this" is going to be brought up every single time a manager anywhere in baseball makes a poor decision or a good decision, then this page will quickly become unreadable.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) It was about a week ago or so. I'm not in to getting people banned, but I was a bit surprised it was allowed to continue. One reality of this site is that the admins typically don't see every page of game threads. If it hits 10:30 pm and the closer isn't on, I have to sleep.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 01:03 PM) It was in a game thread and there were several. Please feel free to send me links on those. There's always a challenge in game threads when people are saying "f*** you" to another poster to judge whether it's in jest or not, but I would very much agree that there's no need for using that word as an insult.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) I think blaming Robin for everything is a bit tiresome. Haven't seen you reply to the f*** you Robin crowd yet, even when they were using the r word several times. So I believe your position is a bit biased. Where did this happen? Because if people call someone a R_______ that's something I'd actually want reported. I noted the posts going after Greg last night in the game thread but only because I checked the last couple pages after I woke up to see what had happened, and you can see that we weren't happy about that.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) I made an appropriate response to his reponse. I don't know why you need to critique my posts. Because I actually have the authority at the site to do so, and regardless of whether or not I disagree, "does this seriously need to be put in every thread" is a fair reply at this point. Not every topic needs to be a discussion/defense of Robin Ventura. It's getting tiresome.
