QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) Balta was off by a year....but he definitely should have seen any velocity rebound almost 3 years removed from that surgery. Not everyone recovers on same schedule. Liriano went under in 2006 and didn't get his average velocity back to 93 until 2010. Obviously there are other things going on in Drabek's case since he wasn't as successful on his first callup and he's had 2 rather than 1, but at least leaves a little reason to hope he could turn into something useful. If not, not a big loss.

Rodon Joining Sox Tomorrow - Working out of Bullpen (Initially)

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) the way this season has been going, might as well bring him up, see if he can stable this ship. A rookie lefty in the bullpen is not going to "Stable the ship" -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) Just like many predicted, the Padres defense is awful. 8-5 so far, so at least it's not murdering them. 2/3 from the Cubs and only one they lost was on a blown save by Kimbrel.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) As I posted in the pre-game thread; Quintana's velocity has been down 4 - 5 mph, on his fastball, at least the last couple of starts. Perhaps that accounts for his "nibbling". He's probably trying to get guys to swing at bad pitches, because any fast ball in the zone is likely to get hit hard. I missed the first 40+ pitches today. Was he still around 88 - 90? We may say Rodon sooner than we thought. They might as well bring Johnson with him. I didn't pay attention to every pitch but definitely saw some at 91-92 today. Certainly not out of the range we saw last year.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) No idea how anybody from the east is gonna be able to contain this Cleveland offense over 4-7 games. Not going to say you're wrong, but do want to ask how much of a lesson you want to take from games against the Celtics.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Haven't checked Drabek's stats in this game but as of yesterday he had pitched like 2 innings total and has given up 9 hits. The guy had so high a ceiling and then the bottom just fell out. Is there something there the Sox think can be fixed? He's had 2 Tommy John surgeries, most recently in 2012. That's an awful lot of developmental delays and probably makes me think that when he originally came up his early struggles wound up with him overthrowing things and developing bad habits. He's probably not even back to where he was in 2011 yet and the Sox probably do feel like there's still something there.

LOL that incredibly loud "S***" I think by Conor

Apparently Josh Hamilton is also getting divorced.

Hey that one stayed in the park!

Can Drabek give some more innings today?

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) Just f***ing once I'd like to have some bulls*** start like Detroit where Greene is a Cy Young and Iglesias is Barry Larkin for a month. I mean, why can't we get some pixie dust once and awhile? Org wide failure IMO, guys never overachieve. If anything, their talent shines through our poor coaching org wide. The biggest overachiever in our organization in years is the guy struggling on the mound right now.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) Yeah, and what I'm trying to say is I will look at Q's last 2.5 years instead of the last 3 starts when determining whether he is "average" or not. Right now, he sucks. But I'm confident he'll get it going and be back to his old self for the vast majority of this year. Even if he does...these losses in April still count.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) You guys just have realize how small the margin is between bad and good at this level. Look at Zach Duke for instance. Nearly out of the league a year ago and now he's one of the better relievers in the league. Q needs to make a few adjustments, get his mind right, and he'll be fine. It's not fun to watch right now, but there's 162 of these things. We've played 10 so far. The reason why I still thought we'd be sitting on an above average starting rotation despite a below average #4 starter was that I thought we'd be above average 1-2-3. Drop any of those down to "average" for their slot and suddenly we're an ordinary starting rotation instead of a playoff-caliber rotation.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) I'm just as frustrated with Q as anyone, but I'm not quite willing to throw away the last 2.5 years because of a few bad starts. This staff is going to be fine. Didn't think I was 'throwing away the past 2.5 years" but at least gotta be worried now, I can't remember Q having a streak of poor starts like this since he was exhausted at the end of 2012.
-
QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) Yup, except I believe that Rodon is easily a number 3 starter RIGHT NOW if not a number 2. So if he gets called up now we have a true ACE at number 1, an above average number 2, an above average number 3, and then 2 pitching machines throwing batting practice. Rodon struggled as much in his last outing at AAA as Q is struggling right now?

If Jose can't be the kind of pitcher he was last year then we legitimately have no shot in this division.
-
Man alive what happened to Jose this year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) What's the chances of actual severe rain? Looks very low. The front may have even already passed.

That did not go well.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) What I mean is that double play combination was the heart of the White Sox lore many of us grew up with....hearing stories about the late 50s/early 60s teams from some favorite uncle or grandfather. Just their style of play and the way they complemented each other. Oscar Gamble, Ron LeFlore, Rudy Law, Tim Raines, One Dog, Rodney McCray, Claudell Washington, jJorgeOrta, Ralph Garr And it should be Warren The Deacon Newson, Norberto Paco Martin, Grebeck/Willie Harris and Pablo Ozuna for the super utility/bench Rushmore. Dude, there's no "bench" filled with several dozen other guys at Mt. Rushmore. You get 4. 4 names. The granite to the side is literally too fractured to add any additional heads. You only get 4. You do not get super-subs.

QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) I don't expect him to be in AAA at any point this year. He still has not played a lot of baseball, and the Sox have a SS. No need to rush the kid. Also he has 1 error this season, on a throw. Why are we talking about moving him? I fully expect him to be in AAA this year because the Sox always rush guys.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) Hey look, it is Derrick Rose! I don't see him, I just see a vaguely familiar red colored blur.
-
Gotta say, defense isn't crisp yet but genuinely like how both the first and second unit look with this team.
-
Ok Derrick, let's do this.
