  1. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) So you only want the Sox to be good in 2015? We just traded for a guy on a 1 year deal likely to sign a 9 figure deal next offseason that we may not want to pay. We better be caring 100% about the White Sox making the playoffs this year. Make the playoffs this year and then pick up the pieces next offseason. We already made that call. We can think long term as a secondary priority, but we absolutely have to win 88 games this year.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) if it doesn't mean way overpaying for that fix is not and should not be an option. worst case DV + his offense can be a short fix. as long as everything else improve, esp the heart with is the pitching. How exactly are we going to make Viciedo's offense something other than offensive?
  3. I just submitted final grades for 199 people. For the first time. And I want to do this for 45 more years. F*** y'all.
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 11:53 PM) Get it done. This is the 2 WAR Chicago needs to really push into serious contention without breakout years from guys like Sanchez or Garcia or even regression from Alexei and Abreu. A 3rd round pick is nothing. The expected WAR is around .2 for a career. Not much out there at that point without luck. The draft pick doesn't worry me nearly as much as his Terrible, nearly Viciedo bad 2013.
  5. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) So I have you to blame for the Derek Dooley years... I was impressed, at Indiana it took 1.25 years for me to get a sports related riot. Tennessee took 1 month.
  6. Doug McDermott will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee, announced just after tipoff tonight, no estimate on his return until after the surgery.

  8. QUOTE (gatnom @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 05:30 PM) I'd love to get you a position at Illinois. Tell them to hire what I do. I'll absolutely apply.
  9. If Chryst leaves, that will be 2 straight schools I've arrived at that have lost their head coach within a few months of me arriving. one more and that's becoming a pattern.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) I honestly wonder if he would have left if he had this season as a part of his perspective. Seriously, how is this different from last year for the Knicks? They hated their coach, switched GMs, clearly had nothing on their roster long term and were playing for cap space several years away.
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) I dont think I quite understand what Levine even means with this. We've been talking for 2 years, the White Sox are the only ones interested in it now, the mariners aren't any more, which happens to be exactly what you'd expect if the guy struggled for 2 years and had his salary rise to $4 million+.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 04:28 PM) Glad the cop who shot a 12 year old boy who had an air gun is in trouble over this senseless death. Renews my faith. Glad the authorities agree you don't shoot down a 12 year old kid who is holding a toy gun. http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/04/justice/clev....html?hpt=hp_c2 Dude, calling it a homicide doesn't mean anything, it means by definition that he died due to injuries sustained at the hands of a 2nd person. Mike Brown's Death ruled a homicide Eric Garner's death was ruled a homicide.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 03:25 PM) Cutler said during his press conference that this concerns weren't previously told to him privately. "You throw me under the bus I throw you under the bus. Tell Aaron Kromer I said **** you"!
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) Who do expect them to change to improve tbe defense? The only chnages would be 2B and left field. LF really won't help the defense much and 2B will be internal from either Johnson or Sanchez. What you see is what you get for defense. Improvement at LF and 2b would be really nice, as would keeping our CF on the field. Another biggy will hopefully be continued improvement in the defense of our 1b which I do expect. What would also help is having people who could be relied upon to play games off the bench who were decent defensively, but I'm not quite sure about that yet. The 3b and RF have some room for improvement but who knows what we'll see from them.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) Who said it was fair? You are a master at conflating things despite a massive chasm between them. It is stupid. It is unfair. It is dangerous. And absolutely votes still matter. Study from earlier this year - interests of businesses and economic elites correlate strongly to actions of government, will of actual voters has little to no influence whatsoever. Which sounds a whole lot like the head of JP Morgan being able to call people in Congress and lobby directly to me.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Much as this legislation pains me, you made an absurd leap there. That Wall Street can get whatever they want, including the setup for the next collapse and bailout, and what the rest of the country wants doesn't matter in the least? I think that's pretty fair.
  17. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP MorganChase, was personally calling people in Congress to whip for votes on that bill last night. Remember how I said that I had no real good way of convincing a person who thought their vote didn't count why they should actually vote? Yup.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) You make a great point here, and it's something that has come into focus since Semien was dealt. This team desperately needs two more bats they can count on to hit LHP, and it's one reason I won't be upset if Viciedo sticks around. IIRC, Micah Johnson was absolutely terrible against LHP when in AA last year but did a little better against LHP in AAA. The problem with it being Viciedo who sticks around is that you can't count on him to hit either LHP or RHP as of now.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) Well, I think it would be reasonably easy to find corner platoon partners for "new LF" and Gillaspie. The corner OF could spell LaRoche too if he's in a slump and "new LF" is hitting okay or is at least valuable defensively. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) Fortunately for the Sox, they have the two best lefty starters in the AL, so their lineup does not have to face them. Also, while you couldn't tell from watching either the current or previous manager, managers are actually allowed to re-arrange the lineup when facing a lefty starter to move those lefty bats farther down in the order. There is no state or Federal law that requires LaRoche to bat 3rd or 4th vs LHP. You guys get my point at least though...another LH hitting outfielder basically also requires us to go out and find 2 other decent enough right-handed hitters to take some of those at-bats away from them, otherwise we're looking at a lineup easily destroyed by lefties both as starters and as relievers.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) L Eaton R Ramirez L LaRoche R Abreu L New Left fielder R Garcia L Gillaspie R Flowers S Sanchez Think about it against a LH starting pitcher though. Here's ~OPS against lefties throughout that lineup from last year: .720 .744 .620 Insanely good new left fielder - pretty weak .992 - only 50 PAs though .565 .732 .618 for sanchez against lefties in AAA. You've got Abreu and potentially garcia who are legit threats against lefties, but they're bracketed by guys with ~600 OPS's against lefties. You've got at least 3 guys with sub-.620 OPS numbers against lefties in there, potentially more if you get a LH hitting left fielder. Hypothetically let's use Ethier as an example - you stick him in there in that new left fielder slot and you have 4 guys in the lineup with OPS below .620 against lefties, 3 guys around .730, and 2 potential monsters. That lineup would be destroyed by left handed pitching and we don't have any strong righties on the bench to take those roles.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) det got a player who is going to be there for 1 yr, then FA, Porcello is going to be a fa when?? det just weaken themself with the pitching rotation. unless they sign or trade for another #1 pitcher, what are they thinking. Porcello is also a free agent at the end of this season.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 10:19 PM) Someone make sense of this for me. What exactly is a too LH OF ? Ther'e only 3 OF positions and unless there's a switch hitter in the bunch it'll either be 2 RH's or 2 LH's. ANd there iare still some guys who bat LH but throw RH. He says it unartfully but I think he has a point. If we bring in a LH hitting OF whose platoon splits are normal, we're setting ourselves up to be extremely vulnerable to LH pitching all year. LaRoche is terrible against lefties, Gillaspie is terrible against them, our main backup OF right now is a lefty, we don't seemingly have a reliable righty on the bench other than Sanchez, if Sanchez is on the bench that means Johnson, a lefty, is starting at 2b, and Eaton's a little worse (but not terrible) against lefties. Maybe you can live with a few of those guys in a lineup against ordinary lefties, Eaton's fine, maybe Johnson will be ok, but if you run out a lineup with Gillaspie, LaRoche, and a LH hitting right fielder against an average lefty pitcher, this lineup will look like swiss cheese. They won't pitch to Abreu and that'll be about the only real worry they'd have.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 07:43 AM) I can be on the right side of the argument in both 2013 and 2014. That's really easy. All you have to do is be in favor of giving wall street all your moneys and all everyone else's moneys. It's the one thing both sides agree on. Citibank deserves your paycheck.
  24. Well guys, the good news is you can all breathe easier, you're now guaranteeing Citibank's bets on the stock market again.
  25. QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) And before someone brings up the lefty lefty at the top of the lineup, Aoki has some real nice reverse splits work in for him. Do you trust the manager to figure that part out?
