  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 11:59 PM) 16 million could be used in other places, his ability does not match the contract. Payroll with Danks and arbitration estimate for players is 78 million way more than the 15. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/2014-payroll- John Danks right now could contribute to a contending team. He's not contributing to a contending team but he's drawing a salary as though he is.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) I see people use "taken for granite" all the time on Facebook. I tell them they need to come to Indiana where we don't take anybody for granite--we take them for limestone. Hug.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 01:00 AM) Please tell me Rodon is a righty. When is he due to join the rotation? What's the projected year of his arrival on the big league team? Pitch all the lefties.
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) A different way to look at it. I don't advocate the firing of Robin, but how many people would be truly disappointed if he wasn't the manager next year? I could think of worse.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Seems like Micah misses a lot of games. They have like 4 2b at AAA.
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 08:12 PM) As we know, Aggrey Sam is well-acquainted with the inner workings of the Bulls Can't tell is this sarcastic?
  7. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) Damn forgot it was a day game. How'd they score? This is real easy. There's a run on the board. Do you think it involved Jose Abreu?
  8. I think that twitter account just homered.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) And my appeal to Don Cooper authority counter-point would be: Given how hard the Sox tried to turn him into a reliever (and given his struggles in LA) seems they knew what they were doing. In the end I'll just be content with Eaton
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) LeBron is in Vegas Pat Riley met with him in Vegas last night. How has no one tracked private jet flights from Vegas to cleveland today! This seems like a complete failure of this thread!
  11. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) Yea but doesn't it sorta prove the point about his handling with the Sox? He has starter stuff, but a reliever's mindset. The obvious counterpoint from my side would be "how exactly is that surprising with how hard the white sox tried to turn him into a reliever"?
  12. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) Funny how much hang wringing was done over trading Hector and Addison, both have been awful and proves the Sox almost never make the wrong call on pitchers. I was much more angry with how Hector was used while he was here than him being traded in the end.
  13. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 02:09 PM) Martin just may be the best catching option out there for the Sox this winter. I would like this move a lot actually. Granite he does not fit into the ideal age group of 22-27 for the next core, he still would have a lot to offer this young starting staff. I've got to think he'll have a good number of suitors though.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) Does being close to signing Mirotic signal Melo to the Bulls isn't happening, or can it still get done if Phil does the sign and trade? Mirotic can be brought in in several ways. If Boozer is amnesthetized, the Bulls should have the cap space to sign him and probably 1 other player at a similar contract level while still under the cap. If the Bulls are able to pull off any sort of sign and trade involving Boozer, they would remain over the cap and have the full mid-level exemption to work with (what was it, up to 4/$23 or something like that?)
  15. This isn't the first time in his career a team has complained about AJ after he left. Place could well have just been a poor fit (and people aren't going to look the other way if you're not producing either).
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) You're right, but I dunno, what's the point of throwing money at a guy you know won't really help much. I guess getting Boozer out of here is a big plus. Basically if the Bulls miss out on Anthony the question winds up being...should the Bulls try to put together a team that has a legit shot at the 2nd round or not? Gasol + Ariza + McDermott + Mirotic in exchange for Boozer, Hinrich, etc., should be a somewhat stronger roster than last year. I'm open to other options but assuming that like always they miss out on the big names because reasons, what else can they do? Only other version I could see is the "trade DRose and start anew" option. May as well try to put out a team that can make the 2nd round and hope that Doug turns into Larry Bird and Mirotic turns into Nowitzki.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) My issue with Gasol is you still don't have a scorer. Ok great, you have a good passer, but who is he passing it to? You know in the 4th Taj will be on the floor. So you have what, Noah, Taj, Gasol, Butler, Rose? Again, who is shooting the open shot? And really that line-up makes no sense if you're playing against a smaller team. Noah and Gasol are slow. So more realistically you're getting Gasol as a back-up/2nd unit guy. Which I guess is fine, but in the playoffs those guys don't really play THAT much. IMO Butler needs to go (or needs to become a back-up) and we need a better shooting guard/small forward. That is the key. Then hope Rose is Rose, Noah is Noah, and the new guys can contribute here and there and the offense becomes more of a unit than individuals. The question you're dancing around is...assuming the Bulls have missed on Anthony, what player could they feasibly get that fills your requirements, and would that actually make them competitive for the title in the east? Hard for me to see the answer to the 2nd of those being yes for just about any random solid but unspectacular shooting SF.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) Not acting the "normal" way is how they found the Boston Bombers. I agree that you shouldn't convict someone solely on that, but it should be considered when deciding whether this dad is just the dumbest person alive or that he did this all on purpose. A police officer's gut feeling can be a useful tool in policing where quick decisions are necessary but a gut feeling shouldn't be admissible in court and it's not something you should honestly be considering even when forming a personal opinion about the case.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) The cops put in their reports that he wasn't acting as a distraught parent should. There's more there than just Google searches. I also hate this one. "He's not processing the grief over his child dying and having it be his fault like I think he should". So many silly assumptions built into that. We can evaluate how a person's mind responds when they're going to be in shock. Police officers are excellent judges of emotional responses. Police officers have perfect memory of people's facial expressions. All people respond the same way to grief. IMO that entire statement is basically a waste of time. Sadly it will probably have some meaning if it ever gets to court, but it really shouldn't.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:06 PM) Dirk has a max offer from the Rockets. He should take it. Huh? Dirk already agreed to an extension with the Mavs.
  21. So basically, Toronto needs our entire starting lineup at this point.
  22. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) Tie game, runners in scoring position, two outs in the ninth. Who would you rather see batting for the White Sox, AJ or Tyler? Is that going to happen 15 times in the remainder of the year? Because if not, "AJ puts us in wildcard contention" is pretty laughable.
  23. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) Replace Flowers with AJ and they're in contention for the wildcard. Keep running Flowers out there and they can't be taken seriously. Because playing a catcher with a .633 OPS is how you get taken seriously.
