QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) I am not suggesting to not to trade, all I am saying do not do a salary dump. And I'm just saying that he's getting awfully close to being dumped to avoid giving him the salary he'd command in arbitration, so if you do get a tolerable offer for him, at least it's gotta be considered.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:38 PM) You keep saying this, but I still don't get why it matters? Either you want to give Dayan one last shot or you don't, a $5M salary should have little impact on the decision given our financial flexibility going forward. He's getting awfully close to being a non-tender candidate and he's not hitting well enough right now to be worth $5 million if he were a FA. That absolutely plays into it for me regarding whether to accept an offer for him.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) Given that they are committed to much less than half of the payrolls we've had in the past, I don't think the cash will deter us from giving it a shot But if they hesitate at all, and they get something non-terrible offered in return for him...you at least have to ask whether he's going to give any surplus value beyond his salary next year. Oh, and if he just keeps going, $6-7 million the year after that.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:17 PM) if the sox can not get a good prospect (s) back which will justify the trade, why trade him at all. It depends on if they are willing to pay him $5 million as a 2nd year arb candidate next year.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 06:56 PM) they showed Abreu in their commercial for the selection show. Can't be a bad sign They've been showing him in the HR derby commercial too. He'll make it as the main 1b backup, Alexei will make it as a backup, Sale is borderline.

2 straight lefties walked by Surkamp. That's bad.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) Nice job Noesi. Wild and beaten up last time out, 6.2 shutout innings with only 2 walks today. Acting like a reasonable mid/back part of the rotation starter still.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) Name one of those $100+ million megadeals for a starting pitcher that the signing team would repeat if they had 20/20 hindsight over the last 10-15 years??? Tanaka's about the only one, and you probably won't be able to say that 3-4 years down the line when he inevitably breaks down or has TJ surgery. I still have not seen the Yankees show any willingness to give back the 2009 world series trophy that they won with Captain Cheeseburger.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 10:17 PM) ESPN's WAR is notoriously flawed. Fangraphs is much better and Petrick has a 0.4 WAR according to it. He has been solid this year, but his peripherals are not great. don't they just use B-R's?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) When it opened on Taylor st I ordered a s*** load the first night. Love that garlic sauce. 10 years ago I loved it...I feel like it seems vastly greasier these days. Then again i could have just grown up.
-
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:06 PM) I'd rather have the financial flexibility going forward. If you're talking about finding someone to fill out the rotation for the rest of the year, sign Wandy Rodriguez to the minimum. It might kinda depend on what they're willing to do next year financially. It kinda doesn't make sense as a salary dump if they're looking to spend from here because they'd be spending the same money for that production next year. If they've already thrown in the towel on next year then yeah, salary dump for best we can get makes sense.

.600 OPS his last 10 games, 0 HR, but still with a .357 OBP over that span.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Since his hit tool is deteriorating, and he has been hitting like hot garbage, if we could trade him for a bag of balls, there would be a lot of volunteers willing to drive him to the airport. If he's actually injured, since we happen to be carrying an extra DH, and there's really no reason to put him in the lineup if his hitting tool is impaired by injury, it would seem logical to, I dunno, give him a couple days off? Or maybe a DL trip?

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 05:56 PM) Read this story a couple of weeks ago. Think there were some suspicious Google searches found on his computer about dogs in hot cars. Press reports said that his wife admitted and seemingly could have been established as having done those searches.

According to the thread today, Dunn is dealing with some sort of a wrist issue right now.

Ok, I think I get it, Robin didn't pull Abreu until he was set up to do the double switch. When Konerko came in, Konerko could take over 1b and Leury could take over for whoever Konerko pinch hit for. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) He was? Mariners broadcast has not recognized it yet. Yes, for some reason Robin didn't pull him when he got on base to lead off, didn't pull him when he got to 2nd, but he pulled him after they walked Connor with 2 outs. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) Just to say, I personally would not have pulled Abreu there. Let's see if Robin's gamble pays off here. Well I got that one. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) Oh s***, I forgot that Viciedo got lifted for a pinch runner. Well then in this case I hope the game gets to Abreu again. And Abreu lifted for pinch runner. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Dunn supposedly battling a sore hand/wrist. DJ questioning why he's still out there trying to hit when he seems to be hurting. Adam's numbers are really starting to nosedive, along with Beckham's.....which of course is perfect for trade deadline time. BECAUSE ANYONE WHO GETS A DAY OFF WILL ACTUALLY DIE. -
