  1. Nope, not the type of quake likely to cause large tsunami.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) Does Leury play SS? And I know Beckham played 1 game at SS last year. Yes, Leury can play SS, but Alexei simply will not be given a day off.
  3. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) What is going to make next years Sox team any better than this one? Looking at what is available in FA, they won't likely be heavily involved. Garcia will be an upgrade offensively in RF, but the pitching problems will still be an issue as well as production at LF, and C and a likely downgrade at 2B, DH. Yes, it is a gamble to trade for prospects, but, you have to gamble a little to get rewards. If they're not heavily involved this offseason then they're committing to another rebuilding year next year. However, if they were to trade away a guy like Quintana, they're even more so committing to another rebuilding year next year, because you don't expect guys, even from AAA, to step in and contribute right away. We're even dealing with that this year.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) Trading Quintana is not a good idea, but trading Ramirez is actually a good idea if Johnson can play SS. He still has played 0 minor league games there.
  5. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 06:52 PM) I always liked him and he had a couple of solid stretches in the bigs with the Padres. His peak outside of Petco seems to be a #5 starter that eats some innings and has some implosions. In 2010 and 2012, he pitched over 200 innings and made 33 starts each season. In those years, his home-road splits are exactly what you'd expect from a pitcher who's home ballpark is the best home park in the league. I'd be concerned about him pitching half of his games in The Cell.First of all, he's left handed, and so signing him would accomplish the important goal of making sure no other team in the league has a left hander. Secondly, he's not better than the current guys in our rotation, including the 2 righties at the back. So if he's looking to be a starter post-injury then someone else can work him on that. OTOH, he's a guy who throws low to mid 90's from the left hand side. Out of the bullpen, that'd be a guy I'd test out.
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 06:06 PM) He is in a slump. It happens Normally I do like the idea of "Giving an extra day off to a guy in a slump" but we know that's not going to happen with Alexei.
  7. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) No! Enough of gambles and cheapness So many people wanted to rebuild with kids for so long, now that we've got it we better get used to it.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) No it doesn't but when you did hit .352, it's rather tough to legitimately complain about him. I get hit when players hit .280 and sport .300 OBPs. Well, except for the whole power thing.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) Jose Bautista and Brett Lawrie both left the game with injuries today. If I'm Rick Hahn, I'd call them and say Gordon Beckham and De Aza is available. Apparently it's a broken hand for Lawrie and he'll be out a month.
  10. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 04:17 PM) http://instagram.com/p/pjEVkeDCxW/# A sign? (Those are apparently Pippens kids BTW) I can't tell if this has been officially posted yet or not.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) I must be wrong on timeline of events. Thought he signed Boozer after The a Decision but think you're right. Still didn't want him. Bosh and Wade announced they were teaming up first, then the Bulls grabbed Boozer and then a couple days later Lebron took his talents to south beach.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) Exactly. It was like, "Oh we missed out on the big ones, we freed up and have all this money...um, here Boozer. See! We spend!" Actually my memory was that a number of people were generally content because the Bulls had filled their PF slot while still leaving themselves enough money open for Lebron, who was still a few days from "the Decision". I for one hated it and I'll admit that Boozer actually outperformed what I expected him to do.
  13. That ball is probably gone in 28-29 ballparks.
  14. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) With Taj being told he's gonna start it's obvious they will amnesty Boozer, that's 15M off the books. Do you really think they're just gonna sit on that? I could convince myself that will cover Mirotic, the draft picks, a MLE-level guy for bench depth, and an extension for Butler. That could push them right back to over the cap.
  15. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) Apparently Jays may be looking for a 2B now that Francisco has cooled off a lot (move Lawrie back to third I guess). Anyone think the Jays may want to go all-in and possibly offer up a top pitching prospect (maybe + other lower guys?) for Beckham straight up? I think them of the A's are the best likely teams that would want to upgrade at second in a trade. The market is shaping up such that moving him is plausible. I think the Jays could make an offer but no clue what it will be. Will it go through? Talk to you in July.
  16. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) Exact-a-mundo. Thou, didn't Danks change his agent before signing? I believe that was Jordan. Projected to go around the 2nd round, had Boras as agent, dropped past the 6th and out of the first day, the Sox drafted him in like the 7th and he switched his agent.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) What does this mean? Haha That my head tells me the only thing that will be interesting is how many pages of disagreement we get before the Bulls sign Mirotic, make 2 draft picks, and call it an offseason.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 11:50 AM) Should be an interesting next few weeks. Sigh.
  19. So here's what no one has said yet. He will have a choice of teams to go to based on the peripherals. At the very least he can probably fill a last guy out of the bullpen role for a contender. OTOH he had success coming back from an injury with the white sox previously. The White Sox aren't a contending team right now, so coming here would not give him the chance to contend, but he could decide he wants to work with our pitching coach again to see if he can find a groove that gets him 1-2 more seasons. It'll be whatever he wants.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) Rick Hahn has said that he's only interested in trading for pieces that fit into the long-term plan. Price doesn't. Except for the fiendish plan to possess all left handed pitching....
  21. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 06:04 PM) Oh, I won't f'ing forget about 2013, bro. I'd like to, but I won't. And you are absolutely, positively correct - last year's team was "designed to compete", but they didn't. Didn't even come close. Every one of KW's eleven teams were designed to compete as well. Only two did. Only two made it to the postseason. That's two in twelve years - not quite enough to energize a fan base and entice them to come out to the ballpark more often. I've got to dispute this. Winning mid-80's numbers of games and missing the psotseason is still a competitive team to me. And I should throw in, I'm not quite sure the 2012 team was "Designed to compete" and yet somehow they pulled it off.
  22. Would the Knicks also pick up a trade exemption in that kind of deal? I never figured out how those work.
  23. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 05:27 PM) Designated for assigment by the Diamondbacks today. ERA of 6.59 on the year (in just 13.2 innings) but FIP of 3.52, xFIP of 3.72 and SIERA of 3.24. Decent groundball rate which seems to be a big Hahn thing for the bullpen. Owed $3.86m for the rest of the season, of which the Diamondbacks would presumably eat some. Well worth a go, imo. He'd seem likely to pass through waivers and thus become a free agent given that salary, so having the D-Backs eat some isn't the way that would go unless you try to trade for him.
