QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) That's very interesting - I wouldn't have thought that was the case. I had heard rumblings about KW Jr before, but maybe that was because he was taken in the 6th round (LOL) and given starting play (LOL LOL). There might be a difference between "having these guys around for the 18 year olds right out of the draft and for guys from the DSL" and "having that guy receiving regular playing time in AA and AAA and getting promoted despite not performing". Definitely got the impression that these guys like being in an organization that will challenge them with promotions as well if they do their job, so I could also see where having a guy who doesn't deserve a promotion constantly moving up because of his last name would grate on them.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 09:45 AM) As long as guys in the 36th or later (or NDFA's) make the majors - and occasionally they do - then it can be a mistake for that reason alone. Beyond that though, I think it has a negative impact on player development. The other players see someone's kid getting playing time, that is going to cause bitterness for some of them. I just don't like it. I don't think it is a BIG DEAL, mind you. But I'd prefer not to see it. From talking to guys in Bristol I got the opposite impression, one thing several guys cited to me (will be noted in next article) was that a major goal for everyone there was just getting into the routine of pro baseball every day...getting on the bus, getting your work in, dealing with the everyday fatigue, etc. I heard a couple times that they really liked the fact there were several guys with familial connections to the big leagues/higher levels (Palmeiro, Earley, this guy) because those guys had seen how their family members deal with the grind and could give some advice to the other guys.

QUOTE (glangon @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 05:53 AM) I wonder if Flowers injury and rehab opens the door for us going after Brian McCann? They won't be deciding that based on Flowers most likely. They'll be deciding that based on whether they think they actually have something in Phegley or not...and in part based on what else they do this offseason. Flowers they've already cast aside/turned into a backup, and that's probably not going to change next year no matter what the situation was.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) After hearing Hahn state on Hit and Run that the Sox have to get better with their fundamentals and defense, it's hard to imagine De Aza being brought back next year. Just like with Stone bashing Rios for a few weeks prior to him getting dealt, it seems like Hawk and Stone are openly bashing De Aza at every chance they get. At least we know one guy is safe. The manager. After all, he has nothing to do with getting those guys to practice and be ready for a game. And it's always easier to replace players than the manager right?

Today's 8 run inning.

The Red Sox hitters really are schooling the White Sox pitchers in this series.

Well, the hit and run turned into a run eventually.

Here is the national security team meeting today to discuss bombing Syria: The question...do you ignore everyone else and only listen to what Hagel says or do you ignore everything Hagel says based on his attire?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) No now what do congressional Democrats do? My vote would be up for grabs, but I would want to see a plan on my desk that is assessed to make a strong positive impact in the region.

The President has asked Congress to vote on authorizing a response. Yay.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 31, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) Wonderful. When we needed him to pitch well....i.e. July..he was atrocious. Isn't his option for like $4 mill? We needed Lindstrom in July? I thought the team was more than out of the race by then. In the fangraphs world he's already put up $4 million in value this year. In the B-R world he's put up more.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 31, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) Maybe he will be healthy for 2014 and we can sign him again. When healthy he a premier set up guy Matt Lindstrom is making a much stronger case for having his option picked up and being the veteran setup guy in the pen than I ever expected him to.

Cabrera has been pulled from both of the last 2 games with abdominal discomfort. The Tigers have a 7 game division lead but they're still playing Cabrera every day.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Naming him closer is still one of the most puzzling personnel decisions the Sox have made in recent years. But he's a swiss army knife!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2013 -> 11:43 AM) There is a mental approach too. Its either that or he is way to inconsistent in his delivery. An inconsistent delivery might be exactly the kind of thing a guy would wind up with if you've screwed with him bouncing him back and forth between the bullpen and the rotation for 2 years.

Justice Ginsberg will officiate at a gay wedding this weekend. One of the participants is named...John Roberts.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) I agree, I have way more faith in Q than Hector right now. I know Hector's stuff is great, but it takes more than stuff to become a consistent starting pitcher. Hector's in his first year as a major league starter, Quintana is in his second.
-
Look how much stronger Quintana and Sale have been this year after getting their innings last year.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) Keep pitching like this and he wont be getting his innings He still threw 90+ pitches. And it's not like he piled up te innings in April/May either.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20130830 Mike Gellinger probably ended his managerial career tonight. Bristol 20-45. Um, why? The record of your lowest level affiliate shouldn't mean much when you don't send top talent there. His job is to take care of the guys and get them introduced to us pro baseball.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) Hawk and Stone thinks it's time to shut down Santiago for the season. I absolutely agree with this. This sounds like a terrible idea. Get him his innings now so that he's stronger for next year. Unless you plan to trade him or shove him back in the bullpen next year.
