QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) If it get's that high and it's 50/50 right now if it does the Sox won't get him, $60-65 it's possible . Just my opinion. The way I read Steve Stone's statement on Abreu the day it was reported he defected, I think the Sox basically wanted him to know they were putting in a bid at about $65 million. Stone said "If the bidding gets to $70 or $80 million I don't think the White Sox will be in it". I struggle to think that he would have just said something like that on his own even if he is Steve Stone. That was very specific, on a subject brought up by Stone during the game, to the point where it sounded a lot like an opening bid.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) How bout signing the guy from Cuba? Where's the outrage that we are not going to get him? That's a way to rebuild FAST. There are other ways to win than hope your team loses and gets a higher draft pick. Like I said, we STILL get a first rounder no matter what. SHould be a decent player in theory. I'll be very unhappy if he signs somewhere for like $80 million and that place is not the Chicago White Sox. I'll be less annoyed if someone offers him 9 figures.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Look at how many other teams passed on him, guy was a good bit of scouting by LAA. Somehow I sincerely doubt the Angels ever had a clue that he'd be this good.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) Well, I guess the Tigers would know his weaknesses Which makes the outside pitch Scherzer threw to him yesterday all the more surprising.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) A lot of Soxtalk actually wanted the SOX to take Trout instead of Mitchell with that pick. Also... There's a big difference between the 3rd pick and 21st pick. These also a big difference between the third pick and the first pick. I never saw a single person complain when he went. Literally the only comment on the trout pick in the draft thread was "well the Angels sure like outfielders, don't they"? There were no "Nuts, darn, drat, I wanted him!" posts.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) Damn knew that up and in pitch to AV was coming after he hit that triple against Scherzer up and away and obvious Benoit was pitching him in. Couldn't lay off it. Looked from Gameday like they were busting him inside all day.

QUOTE (KG#1 @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) I agree. I really hope that THIS is the Gordon we get for years to come . . . I also have really liked Avi Garcia as well. You set up that Garcia double play perfectly.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) One can only hope we have him back next year stronger. The homer allowed totals are atrocious though. Teams are doing to us this year what our offense used to do to them As others have pointed out...guys usually just don't throw this many HR balls when everything else in their repertoire looks good.
-
QUOTE (KG#1 @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) Still 3-3 game right now . . . I am going to take a stab that the Sox take the lead in the bottom half of the 6th inning. Literally within a minute of this posting the Tigers took a 4-3 lead.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) Exactly. Insanity Interesting comparison actually. As of today (110 games), his season looks a LOT lot Frank's 1994 (113 games), which was by far Frank's best season. Cabrera is just a touch better today, 209 vs. 205 wRC+ And yet Frank's OPS+ was just a touch better that year .
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) I highly doubt it. After seeing what Rios brought, I can't imagine Konerko would bring anything except the relief of the $3m he's still owed, and it really just doesn't make sense to dump him for that at this point. I'd let him go to save $500k if that's what he wanted.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) 209 wRC+. Literally more than double as productive as a league average hitter. Insanity. Not insanity, just doing stuff that Frank Thomas did years ago.

"off the field" issues blamed for Ramirez's high error

I don't believe I ever saw the article written giving that excuse for Dunn's 2011 season even though there have been a lot of whispers that he had serious personal stuff going on, yet here they feel the need to defend Alexei. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) Pick him up Rick! Give us something exciting to watch the last 1.5 months. Manny hit .259 with a .698 OPS in AAA in the Pacific Coast League. We can call up Jared Mitchell if we want that level of excitement.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 11:56 PM) Isn't this pretty much the same reason we signed Dunn? I thought in that case we specifically needed a LH hitting DH. It woulda worked too, if not for Ozzie's meddling kids...

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) Viciedo has 2 homers in 17 career ab's vs. Scherzer. Don't get it. Do we really need to find out what DeAza and Danks can do...? At this point? I get playing Garcia everyday, but it doesn't make much sense to play Jordan Danks so much/Tekotte. At least Adam Dunn is looking as good as he has in a White Sox uniform... Viciedo is hurt. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) Well, our board rule of "person who makes a winner game thread makes them until the Sox lose" has gone by the wayside this season, so enjoy your first game thread caulfield I only make game threads when Japanese Iron Chefs throw out the first pitch. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) The "high prfile" phrase was mine given the fact 3 of the 4 are playoff caliber teams and the National get a lot of pub based on being in D.C. and Strasburg/Harper. Those are the only teams they mentioned though I don't think they did a big analysis of all teams. I know it won't matter in the end, but hey, why not be an under-the-radar bidding team for him with tons of money to spend? Can't hurt, would rather be that than "Team everyone knows is desperate to sign this guy".

Nothing here we didn't expect, but may as well post it since there's no catch-all (grumble grumble cranky grumble).
