QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) Get rid of the AC/DC music at the beginning of the game. You could probably take a look about doing something about the Pirates intro, but the AC/DC has to go away forever. No. Go away.

Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) Hawk mentioned it, said they worked on it "a ton", even more than last year. Hahn mentioned it. Ventura mentioned it just yesterday or the day before, said it was just one of those things that snowballed. I know we live in an era where everything you do wrong is pinned on someone else, but the problem is, if you don't actually change the real cause of the problem (players) you really won't solve the problem. The Sox offense is horrid. Is that Manto's fault? If you want to blame Viciedo's lack of development and the poor starts De Aza and Dunn got off to and Ramirez's shocking lack of power and Flowers's lack of development on Manto, I'm all ears. I still do have some positives. beckham being a ton better, Rios continuing to hit, Gillaspie at least showing some growth and getting off to a hot start (we'll see where that goes), De Aza and Dunn being on fire lately. So overall I'm iffy on manto for this season. There's been some positives and some negatives. I defy you to tell me one thing the White Sox have done well on their fundamental baseball skills. IMO the thing that really killed the Sox's offense was Paul Konerko finally getting old, and that one I don't hang on Manto. That's a totally different team if Konerko is putting up his usual .850+ OPS. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:52 PM) Man I would love to see a poll of which states that GZ would be convicted or acquitted with the evidence that was presented. It's really impossible to know, because the jury was tasked with the SYG standard in its instructions. It's hard to know how the jury would vote if they weren't given that instruction. It's also impossible to guess how that trial would have gone if the prosecution had made manslaughter its focus. The manslaughter description the judge gave to the jury seemed pretty incomprehensible.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) It is and it has. You blame players making errors on the manager. You also claim they took it easy during spring training. That has been debunked. They spent just as much time doing the same drills they did last year. It just all fell apart. Blaming that on the manager is crazy. I will bet 100% of the people who blame Ventura when the players screw up, if they are managers in their line of work, would never understand taking the fall if one of their underlings screwed up. It hasn't been "Debunked". You pointed to one article on them working on fundamentals the last day of ST. Whatever they did...IT DIDN'T WORK. So yes, I blame the players making mental errors on the manager, just like I gave last year's manager credit for how focused the team was. If Robin Ventura isn't to blame for the complete collapse of the player's fundamentals, focus, and mental performance on the field, fine, then we're at the "There's no reason to retain him because he really doesn't do anything positive or negative so why does anyone care" point? -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) So direct your anger towards the legislators that can change the law, not the guy who legally did nothing wrong. No one made him carry a gun. In a just society that alone would earn him scorn.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) Yeah the website did kinda look like the equivalent of an Alex Jones conspiracy theory website when I saw it. That doesn't mean it's not still... um weird I guess that this story comes out a few days after the verdict. I found a couple different places which had picked the story up (no mainstream outlets) but decided to track it back to the original source and share that.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) Of course not, but when people criticize Ventura for his quiet demeanor, and then mention Dave Martinez as their choice to take his place, it would be nice if they realized he is more quiet than Robin. I'd be thrilled with Ventura's quiet demeanor if it seemed like it was having a positive impact on the players. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 11:39 AM) Some background on the guy who broke this open... http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/950...b-investigation Buried lede: "Other suspensions, including for the New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, are expected within the next two weeks."

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) If Hahn traded Dunn, paid 75% of his future salary, and got a C level prospect back, would you give the same congrats? So that'd be the Sox paying $15 million out of $20 million or so remaining? No.

I've actually never seen a company, or a baseball team, do this before. I've seen plenty of surveys from the White Sox, I'm on their email list, but this was a new one. This morning I got an email from the White Sox with a brief survey about...this season. The questions were: What things do we (the organization) need to keep in mind as we go through the changes needed to improve the team? What has disappointed you most about this season? What excites you most about the White Sox going forward this year and in the years to come? Emphasis theirs. My answers to the first 2 were basically, "I can't stand the quality of play on the field, I'd rather watch the team lose but not make these silly errors than watch what we see now", "The defense and the mental errors", and "Chris Sale and this young, talented pitching staff".

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 09:27 PM) It is a sign of respect for one of the most popular players in the organization from a manager who actually gets how to be a players manager, and doesn't crave the spotlight. The meltdown people are having about it is pretty legendary. He's never going to pitch for the White Sox again. And from now on I get to laugh at him walking off the field after one last unnecessary home run, rather than after actual applause and a strikeout. Seems like a stellar FU from that players manager. If I wanted to say that peavy deserved nothing more than polite applause, that helps. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) If Balta is correct, he wouldn't have saved them. Those people have said they don't want to be associated with him as it is If that interpretation is right and I don't know it is, he showed up after everyone was safe and the police were already on the scene (after a policeman on te scene friend of his called him), did a photo op with a fire extinguisher he didn't use, then departed.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) I can't figure out why someone is clinging to the odds of a freak accident at pitch 112 being any greater than the first 111. Turn it the other way. What possible benefit is there from running him out there? Give me a cost/benefit analysis here. Maybe the cost hasn't gone up much, but what's the reward? Are you going to run him out there the whole inning and throw him 135 pitches? They weren't just leaving him out there for a righty to bring in a lefty for the next batter since a righty came in anyway. The bullpen didn't need a 1 batter shorter outing, they're not that tired? What on Earth was the goal? -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) Kid just keeps hitting, if he finishes over 290 or around 300, he could make some top 100 lists I'm sure. He's a white sox prospect, you can just assume that knocks him down 30 spots for most people.

“@MDGonzales: Nearly as interesting as Rienzo's no-no is that he pitched on the same day as Peavy. Lined up if Peavy is traded”

There are a Couple reports out suggesting that Zimmeman's auto rescue story isn't legit, that he only showed up after the responding officer, a friend of his, called him and said e should come out for the positive press.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) Mod, fix the title please. Or don't. I don't really care. Is that a threat?

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 05:54 PM) Now this is strange: Peter Gammons @pgammo 1h Keep hearing White Sox need pitching for Peavy, as 5 of their 6 best prospects are position players. They may be, but they are nowhere near ML ready. While that's true, #'s 8-11 are all pitchers, and a couple of them are pretty close too. Rienzo isn't even in that group.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) How far? How many innings? How many pitches? Where is that exact spot? 7 innings, 110+ pitches seems like a really good spot. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 05:20 PM) Is there any reason not to try DeAza in the middle of the order ? He has been streaking for over a month , +900 OPS. Is there any reason not to put Alexei at leadoff when he's been getting a ton of hits and stealing bases ? Why bat Keppinger 6th when he basically has no power at all ? Viciedo crushes Detroit why not him in the middle of the lineup against them ? Keppinger has no future here except as a utility guy . During the course of the season and especially now that the season is lost trotting out the same old same old every day makes very little sense to me. Why PK fifth ? Out of respect? Is he the future ? I certainly am not making a case for Robin and leaving Peavy in to start the 8th has to be the icing on the cake when so much is at stake with the immediate future of the franchise at stake. Alexei's OBP by month: .316 .316 .295 .298 Yeah that's a pretty good reason not to hit him leadoff.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 05:33 PM) That risk was necessary . After all he might not be traded so you give him his regular turn in the rotation let the scouts see he's fine and get him the hell out of there. Plus, "2 big league starts to show you've recovered from an injury" really is better than 1. -
QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) Does anybody have a number on how many 123 innings Reed has had this season? I counted 18.
