QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 12:39 AM) http://www.nba.com/games/20130718/MIACHI/gameinfo.html Very nice game for Teague, and he's still 20 years old with high ceiling. Looking at the bottom of the Bulls box score and I spotted R. Allen and C. Boozer and thought we somehow stole Ray Ray from the Heat. But turns out it was just some scrubs named Ryan Allen and Charles Boozer. Reports are that Teague's offense has been coming along. Not great on the shooting outside yet but really starting to take advantage of his speed, fastest guy on the court, etc. But, weak on defense, gaping hole. Then again, that's a setup the Bulls have had success with before.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 01:27 AM) Early wasn't even doing that great in AA was he? .282 average, .344 OBP, .770 OPS. Not great numbers but BHam is a pitchers park also.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) #15-#11 15. Kershaw 14. Strasburg 13. Tulo 12. Miggy Cabrera 11. Yadi Molina Not a single person in that group I'd trade Sale for straight-up.

Should sox ride sale less on throw away seasons?

I don't get why they're pushing his pitch count either...but in Cooper I trust. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) I am hoping that last years collapse is weighing in the back of their minds as to whether they should make a big move or not. And the year before too.

The thing to remember about big money free agent deals is that when you sign them, you do so understanding that this player should help you win right now. You're paying the win-now premium on a guy. The off years at the end of the deal are the result of paying that premium price. Yes the Yankees hate ARoid now, but if you gave them the option of voiding his deal if they relinquished te 2009 World Series title, what would they say?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) It probably means one of the AAA guys moves up, with a chance that one of the AA moves up next, I'd guess Mitchell as a back up. Earley already moved up to Charlotte today.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) Kershaw and Harvey will be above Sale. But Sale was ahead of Felix and Darvish. Harvey I can buy. Kershaws about to get a contract worth twice sale's.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) Ford Fusion Hybrid. You can probably get one for 26K if you negotiate well. Wait a year and buy the redesigned 2015 Volt.

That was great. Loved the other sports guys stories the best I think. Can we please give that man the Frick award?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) Depending on how that goes in court, if the union loses it will f*** over public union pensioners elsewhere jn the country really bad, they'll be up the creek without a paddle. For the first time ever you've suddenly got every Republican cheering on Detroit.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) For not making a deal happen? Yup. Didn't think you'd be so eager to give up Noah + butler.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) I really doubt most hitters do. Carlos Gonzalez is having nightmares about that slider.

Anticipating my response to the completion of the list...."I wouldn't trade sale for 2/3 of those guys".

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Man, Portland isn't really trying to move Aldridge apparently. Apparently, they tried to get Love, Griffin, Davis, Horford and Noah-plus for him. That asking price is going to have to come down before an Aldridge trade becomes a realistic possibility. But we can still blame Bulls management, right?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) I'm almost positive Ozzie would've played him 140 games if he was still with the team, so he'd have played full-time and gotten tired and put up one of the typical .245 average, mid 800s OPS type seasons and not that 1.039 he put up in Minnesota when they only used him like 2/3 of the time. (The sad thing is Thome would have been the perfect part time DH to pair with Andruw Jones that season since Jones did nothing other than murder lefties).

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 03:38 PM) If the Orioles got Dunn.... They would be scary, but I see them going after possibly more pitching. Wonder if Oakland could be interested? Although Mr Moneyball resides there. The Orioles seem more likely to be able to absorb that money than Oakland.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) I can't figure it out anymore. It seems like half the s*** doesn't show up on my feed anymore, there's crappy advertising everywhere. It's still a good way to kill time when bored. Facebook also uses their algorithms to decide which things to show you out of pages you like based on how often you click them. If there's a person you want regularly showing up in your feed, or a business/thread, go to that page, hover over the "liked" button, and adjust the settings so that all of their posts show up in your feed.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) Also, age is important, but it is only as important as effective, or professional, age. Guy who was drafted at 22 but reaches AAA at 25 is on a good track, for example. Other side, guy drafted at 18 who is 25 in AAA, that is 7 years to get there, probably not a great sign. Have to keep development time in mind. The other detail you didn't add though is physical development. 21 year olds are just, on average, less physically developed than 23 year olds, assuming that they're trying to stay in shape. A guy who is old for a league might be putting up good numbers because he's physically more developed than everyone in the league even if he isn't very professionally experienced.

(Crosses fingers and hopes that somehow Konerko is playing for BHam in 2 weeks when they're here...)

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) That's the main reason I flip flop on it. The intent is not to glamorize him, it's to wonder how a "teeny bopper" plants a bomb next to an 8-year old. But for a victim, they don't care about that, they just don't like to see him portrayed in that manner. Without having read the article, on the cover, they do say he "became a bomber and amonster"

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 05:07 PM) There's really no point in dealing Dunn. We'll eat 80% of the salary, get nothing back, and then have to scramble to find a DH. He's a sunk cost, and he's fine right there as we rebuild. He's not a clubhouse distraction nor does he create any other negatives. If we'd have to eat 80% of the salary you're right. This whole discussion was driven by statements that if a team would pick up much more than that (i.e. claim Dunn on waivers or something like that) the Sox would hesitate.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) Ok, another way of looking at it is wRAA, which is essentially wRC without the scaling. It's measured in runs Dunn = 7.1 Ells = 10.5 So the sum of Dunn's offensive contributions would create, on average, roughly 7 more runs than a league average player. Ellsbury is a touch over 10. To put THAT in context, historically, teams tend to get one win for every 10 runs they score ABOVE the amount of runs they give up. So, ignoring defense in this case, Ellsbury's contributions are worth about one additional win COMPARED to average. Does that make sense? And so Ellsbury's offense has been worth 1/3 of a win more than Dunn's offense so far this season?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) I've been going back and forth on the issue, but I think you hit it right on the head. That picture of him makes him look like a teeny bopper, it tries to make him look like you should like the kid. If they used a mugshot or maybe the picture from the security cameras, I think people would be much less upset. Of course..."this seemingly normal kid decided to plant a bomb in the middle of boston" really is a big part of the story.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) 3% of league average. This number just doesn't mean anything to me. I don't know what "league average run production" is off the top of my head and I don't know how it scales.
