  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) He does, he just refuses to use it. His post game is nearly unstoppable against most defenders. Anyone ever guess why he doesn't push this part of the game more? Is he worried about teams like the Pacers, Bulls, and Spurs, who do have big men, trying to beat him up down low?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 10:19 AM) I'm sure they are targeting specific players to fit into the holes that this team has. Once a team is willing to meet the Sox price, you will see the domino's fall, whether that is June 20 or July is up to the other teams. And until that happens, we'll hear posts complaining about how Hahn needs to start doing something.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) I just don't see that happening. Hahn has to realize this offense is a mess and that we need some young, talented bats to build around. Taking advantage of buyers at the deadline will be one of his best opportunities to do so. Peavy, Rios, Ramirez, De Aza, Crain, Thornton, & Lindstrom should all be available at the deadline for the right price. That doesn't mean you automatically trade them, at least not the relievers, but if you can get good value for Peavy and the position players you definitely move them. I actually think this offense can be improved pretty quickly if Hahn can make the right moves and acquire two young bats that can be in the everyday lineup next year and is willing to spend in the offseason. But the key is getting a couple cheap, cost-controlled bats at the deadline, so you can afford to fill your others in free agency. The problem is going to be, outside of Rios and Peavy...none of those guys would be expected to bring back an MLB-ready impact bat, and Peavy the answer might be "Maybe" depending on how his health goes at this point. You might be able to get an impact player, but not one who is ready to step in right away for the other guys. Remember...if a player is nearly MLB ready, the team isn't going to give him up without a big return, because the team could make themselves better just by bringing that player up and fitting him into the rotation "somehow" even if he's not at a position of need.
  4. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 12:51 AM) Why would I want to waste time doing this on a site that doesn't give the team it's own thread. There's a Cubs thread but no BH thread. Unbelievable unless we are devoting threads to perpetual losers. The Hawks don't qualify while the Sox and Cubs do. We gave them their own forum and nobody came.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 11:04 PM) I am now convinced that size/beef/physicality is not how you beat Miami now or in the future. The Bulls had more size in '11. The Pacers had more size the last two years. You have to be able to spread Miami out with multiple guys that can put the ball on the floor and create for shooters (Peja, Terry, Griffin, Barea, Green, Neal, Leonard). Duncan is one win away from becoming the best big man of all-time. I think it was very clear to everyone watching that the biggest issue with that Bulls team against the Heat in 2011 was by far a lack of floor spacing created by the fact that they didn't have a midrange or outside threat at SG the Heat had to take seriously. It created every other problem they ran into. Rose couldn't get into the lane because the Heat could collapse on the lane, the Heat were able to get rebounds and breakaways because the Bulls couldn't force them to keep people outside. That was the whole point of trying to bring in Hamilton; a guy who could hit a midrange jumper if they left him open while also not losing anything on defense. It failed because of injuries, but even their player moves fit that profile.
  6. QUOTE (MaggsOrdonez @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) This. One of Robin's great traits is his levelheadedness. He's consistent, and the players can depend on him to treat them like adults and not scream at them for every mistake. That being said, the defense is on the level of a little league team. I liked what he was doing earlier in the season with early fielding practice before games. He should make it clear the amount of errors is unacceptable. He did that once for 50 minutes. I believe I said at the time they ought to be doing it every game until things improve. That was like a month ago.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) Reed isn't a horrible pick, if he figures it out on the road. Too many other relievers having dominant years. Rivera, Nathan, Balfour, Perkins, Frieri all have better ERA's, Johnson has more saves.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) People are still following this atrocity of a team? Some of us probably would still watch a 65 win team.
  9. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) Appel and Rodon will be one hell of a tandem in the not too distant future. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) Fernandez and Rodon will be one hell of a tandem in the not too distant future. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:49 PM) Who would have thought that Jason Castro would wind up being better than Beckham, Smoak and B. Wallace? I just want everyone to remember these 3 posts and the message they should give.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) Jake, if you start to trade Rios and Peavy, you're basically giving up on next year also. When organizations get in trouble is when they try to rebuild while contending. It's very hard to look at the roster without Rios and Peavy and think this team can even sniff competing against the powerhouse Tigers. Peavy, or at the very least 1 of the starters, absolutely needs to be traded. Peavy is the one who has the most value right now in a reasonable trade (obviously excluding Sale). We're 6 deep in starters once Peavy comes off the DL, and we'll be 7 deep by next year unless Johnson gets hurt. This team could trade Peavy and field a competitive roster next year. If they pull off a good deal for him, they could be quite a bit improved. Rios is the question mark. Rios is a guy who would contribute to the Sox next year if he was around, and the Sox will not have anyone ready to replace him from their system. If they were to move him, he needs to be replaced in a trade or in free agency if the team wants to compete next year. You can make up a situation where it works, but that one is the tricky one.
  11. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) Nobody but Sale and Crain belong on that All-Star Team. And Crain's unlikely to make it.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) Learning from the master, Paul Konerko I don't remember a week where I've seen as many angry bat flips by Konerko as I've seen the past few games.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) Huge win for Boston, they need to start rebuilding quick. If it keeps CP3, then it rapidly becomes a win for the Clips too though.
  14. No. And I want him replaced with whoever it was that planned the 2012 team's spring training.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) When you struggle every bad play, bad bounce, missed catch, runner left on, etc, etc becomes magnified. Ramirez can get to balls many shortstops can't. Gets a bit reckless at times. I am disappointed in his hitting too. I think that swing of his is way to long. That was a tough tough loss to pin on Sale. Let's just win the game on saturday and feel better. Yeah, if Alexei was on pace for 10-15 HR the defensive miscues wouldn't be as annoying, that's worth remembering too.
  16. Can someone put this into a single post for me...which of the "tough sign/over-slot" type guys have we actually nailed? Michael-I'll get his name down by the time he's in AA I've got, who else did they nail from that group?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) Any chance they release Jared Mitchell soon? How long until he needs to be put on the 40 man?
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) How does this f***ing loser keep getting jobs? http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22815...f-Rivers-Leaves An early version of draft pick tanking?
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) Why doesn't DirecTV have their own Internet? Seems natural. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hughes_Communications
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) Eh, read my posts. The only person I'm calling names is you because you turned into a big badass all the sudden because you felt like and idiot. As I said previously, we all make mistakes. It's best to just admit you're wrong and move along. Except of course anyone wh o disagrees with you. And a whole lot of players too. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) Every year it's the same thing with the Soxtalk Meatheads, yes the SOXTALK MEATHEADS, I have defined you. You adopt some crap player on the roster and act like he's better than he really is or is finally figuring it out or just needs more time. We're not even including players like Gordon Beckham and Dayan Viciedo that you SOXTALK MEATHEADS refuse to see for what they are. Conor Gillaspie is the latest in a long line of scrubs who got a couple hits and you SOXTALK MEATHEADS adorned our great solution. Now there's a thread in which people discuss claiming another turd Juan Francisco and "the one thing we don't need is a solid hitting lefty 3B". Yeah, because that's Conor Gillaspie. Listen, this is baseball. Very rarely does a player like Gillaspie get released and all the sudden figure it out with a new ballclub. Conor Gillaspie is the 2013 Danny Richar. You will realize he sucks balls soon enough. Oh, his OPS for the month of May is .672. Moving forward, when I read something silly about a garbage player wearing the pale hose that is ridiculous, I will be replying to the poster declaring them to be a SOXTALK MEATHEAD. You've been warned. Yes, that's right Steve, you haven't called anyone names. It's best to just admit you're wrong and move along.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 05:06 PM) You "shut up". You're being petty and very un-Balta just because you posted something stupid. It's ok. I've been there before, man. I posted a guarantee that LBJ wouldn't sign with the Heat! I did that! That said, your post was stupid! There's a difference between "developing prospects" and calling a non-prospect, 27-year old a bad player. Tyler Flowers is not a prospect, and your post was stupid. It would behoove you to stop defending it. Also, Conor Gillaspie sucks. Tyler Flowers is exactly the kind of player the White Sox are going to have to develop into a useful piece if they want to rebuild rapidly. He has obvious major holes in his game (strikeouts) but also has a major tool to offset it (power). He's cheap, has limited major league experience, and there's genuine reasons to think he can become better if given playing time. It's also not unexpected that he's struggling at first. That's exactly the kind of prospect the Sox can and should be trying to develop. And yes, he's a prospect. He's a guy who doesn't have a lot of big league experience and can possibly improve with time. Almost by definition that's a prospect. Tyler Flowers is a prospect who the Sox are seeing if they can get anything out of. Conor Gillaspie is a 25 year old who put up decent but not spectacular numbers in AAA and earned a shot at the big leagues. Your entire set of posts here suck. All you're doing is calling names and throwing s*** out. It's just trolling. You have zero urge to actually discuss anything, you just want to call names.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) He sucks. I simply pointed that fact out to the portion of Soxtalkdom mouth breathers that s***s their pants over every week long stretch of non suckage. See Balta's adorably hilarious post about Tyler Flowers' awful ass posting some nice numbers over a selective 10 game stretch. Like I said steve, just shut the f*** up. This is what happens when teams try to develop players. "OMG someone is actually struggling! You know what would be great, if I decided to be a complete jerk and call everyone who thinks this guy might have any talent "Mouth breathers"! That'll be f***ing awesome! I'll be a big man then!
  23. Does any team have enough cap space that they could make a legit run at both?
