QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) There's value in making decisions quickly. You might get burned from time-to-time, but when it comes to non-core players I'm fine with making a mistake in the interest of time. I love how the guy on this site who thinks that dismantling the team and going with a multi year youth movement has zero patience for trying to actually develop youth.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 28, 2013 -> 08:19 AM) I hope not. He's been playing much better in May and has gotten his K% down to a very respectable 21-22% but I'd like to see him continue the progress and try to expand on the power numbers for another couple months before pushing him forward. He's still just 22 so no need to rush him. I'd rather them send Earley to try and see whether he might have any sort of big league future (in any capacity) or not. Moving Thompson up right now would be almost ridiculously aggressive.

Personally, I can't wait until Phegley is actually called up, struggles for a week or so, and then people here declare that they can't stand his approach, they're done with him, he needs replaced, and they never want to see him again.

QUOTE (mataipaepae @ May 27, 2013 -> 09:27 PM) santiago should be pitching over him and axelrod to be honest. let quintana and axelrod be the 5th and 6th starter. Quintana shouldn't be in the rotation? -

QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 27, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) That I agree and what I've always said. Bunch of talent 2 cent brain Which means...the manager needs to go into spring training knowing he needs to drill every single basic move into Lexi's head over and over. I think that happened last year. I think he got the Ozzie "he's a veteran and he knows how to get himself ready" treatment this year. -

So it's a day that ends in "Y" and there's a defensive miscue that turns into a run. Is Mark Prior's arm hurting too? -

QUOTE (Baron @ May 27, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) What has Tyler Flowers shown in all the years he's been in the minors and for the time that he has been in the majors that keeping him up to struggle is going to change anything? Other than maybe his average as it gets lower and lower. In the minors? He struggled for a year at AAA in 2010 trying to get his stroke correct as people were messing with it, settled down, and had a much more quality 2011. This is exactly why it sucks trying to develop guys. The norm for guys coming up from AAA is that a year, maybe 2, is necessary before you know what you have. A guy who is a successful backup then struggles for a year upon getting the starting job...that's exactly what should happen, regardless of the age. That's the norm. That's what you should expect. and still 50% of the time or so it doesn't work. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) No one on this board is a bigger fan of Danks than me. He is, however, a work in progress. He is one bad start from several around here telling us his career is over. Floyd, Konerko, Thornton off the books and $25 million more a year in the bank account anyway. Keep Peavy and improve the offense. As the Dodgers have shown, you never have enough starters. You know? You really kinda can. We're at 6 MLB starters right now...to the point that we're putting one in the bullpen so that he stays in the bigs. 2 quality relievers would be more valuable to us than the next starter. If EJ keeps developing, and on top of that we have another out of the 2-3 guys who could potentially be starters for us step up...we're going to be talking about a rotation that is 7-8 deep for guys who legitimately should be in the big leagues. We started this year with 6, one went down, now we've added another...if we put Johnson in that MLB ready list...that's just an abundance of starting pitching. If we're that overwhelming on starting pitching and we need cost controlled bats...it starts becoming a trade that makes sense if the right partner appears...and pitching, particularly left-handed pitching, always should be an asset in demand. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 27, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) Just be choosy on what you pick, the entire arc has over 100 issues. But it does raise a lot of interesting points with the soldier in Captain America being the one to go underground because of personal liberties, but at the same time knowing he's breaking the law already with vigilante justice. I wonder if you contacted Marvel if they've whipped up anything specifically to allow for the use of their material in lesson plans (or if they might not do so if you asked).

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 27, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) I'm more of the mindset that you play match ups . Use Flowers to pinch hit occasionally . Sox need hitting and want to win now so let Flowers prove himself in a part time role or Gimenez for that matter. I just want the team to score some runs and move runners along. I think Gimenez if a better option now to win. I don't think developing Flowers should be that high on the priority list since the Sox seem to be strong in the minors at that position. Coming into this season, we'd all have agreed that we're incredibly weak in the minors at the catcher's spot, and 2 hot months from Phegley doesn't change that. Letting guys struggle for months is what you have to do to develop people. Sometimes years. If you do it for too many positions, you become the Royals. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) The Tigers haven't won a WS since 1984. The Giants have won 2 out of the last 3 WS but over the past decade how much better have they been than the Whit Sox. The Cardinals have won a couple of WS recently. One by winning 83 games and another when they finished in 2nd place,. They have though, consistently win lots of games, and get contributions signing bats lile Beltran and Berkman , guys on Marty's wrong side of 30. The Tigers model also involved a long period of being one of the worst franchises in MLB history as well. That's the reason they have Verlander, they had one of the worst records in baseball. That's part of the reason why they were able to trade for Cabrera; they were able to draft people like Andrew Miller who fell in teh draft because of the messed up draft system (which has been fixed today) who they traded for Cabrera. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Peavy would be very hard to replace. Don't weaken your strength for question marks. You know, right now...I'm not sure I agree with this. I think we have a good chance that next year, or even late this year, Johnny Danks can be the theoretical Peavy replacement. As others have noted, that still leaves the team with a 4 lefty starting rotation, which is definitely an oddity, but it does kinda make some sense. And we'd still be sitting there 6-deep in the rotation thanks to EJ. That said, if we're 2-3 games out at the deadline, screw it, I want Peavy in my rotation for the stretch. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) I agree with you, J...I think Kobe gets passed up a bit because he is so similar to Michael and came so quickly after him...the tendency is to elevate other, different players ahead of Kobe because Michael was better and yet they are so similar. Don't forget the defense/hand check rule changes that happened right after Jordan retired and right before Kobe's era. That deservedly gets held against Kobe by people who know the game.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 27, 2013 -> 03:29 PM) Me too ,but I read where Ventura said Flowers should be back in the lineup today. Smardzija is RH so maybe Hector does get the start but I think Ventura views Flowers as his starting catcher. I don't think Flowers matches up well with Smardzija. At least until around the trade deadline, we're going to give Flowers his shot to develop. This is what you have to do to develop youth sometimes; give them the time to struggle. We'll see where we are in July. If he's still .200 and below, then we'll see what's available. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 27, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) I think it's pretty nuts to expect to "win" a Peavy deal, The general setup you gave isn't bad so far...but this is the wrong way to think. We're a .500 team right now with an easy stretch coming up in our schedule and we're getting healthy. We've got a shot at being a competitive team this year. If we cannot "Win" a deal on paper...there is no reason to sell off parts. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 27, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) What makes you think that? 2 years left on an affordable deal. Actually, you know, a team like the Tigers or Indians might give up a lot to get Peavy right now. Ditto the Orioles or angels. Because it would hurt a team in contention with them. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2013 -> 11:23 AM) If the White Sox had drafted Trout instead of Mitchell, would anyone other than one poster be clamouring for a rebuild? It hasn't been a case of draft postion. It has been case after case of choosing the wrong player. Would Trout have destroyed his leg on the same play as Mitchell? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 27, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) And I thought Oblivion was a stretch, lol... No wonder I never got into the whole Star Trek universe, it's like a Christopher Nolan movie on speed following the various plotlines. There are more than 500 hours of produced TV and film Star Trek. In that amount of time, you build a lot of detail to the universes.
