White Sox vs Marlins game thread
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2013 Season in Review
Is this a home game? (just wondering first pitch time). -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 24, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) Jesus the Marlins are f***ing terrible. Anything less than a sweep really is going to be a disappointment. Let's be honest, it's baseball, so losing a game out of a series like this is what we ought to expect...but yeah, you're right. This Marlins team shouldn't beat anyone.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) THAT'S THE CORRECT ANSWER YOU C*NT TEACHER Oh wait I'm angry. 0 x 0 = HOSSA right now f***. EDIT: Why is the same question on there twice directly above itself? Read the label, it's a timed drill, that's a memorization thing. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 24, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) He IS rising up a bit, but his agent saying he's a stretch 4 and can shoot the jumper but then not showing it is an error IMO. Supposedly he was working on an outside game during the season but never showed it also. I believe he also had some fairly excellent athletic numbers at the NBA combine, including one of the highest jumps ever for a guy 7 feet or above.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 24, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) So a player(Glen Rice Jr) can be drafted out of the D League? That is interesting, I admittedly am not really familiar with player rights in reference to D League and NBA, I figured it was like MLB where someone already had his rights and they would just bring him up. I don't think teams can hold the rights to enough players to fill the D-League. The Bulls have sent players they had previously drafted to D-League teams, but only like 1-2 at a time. That barely fills a team if half the league does it.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 24, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) No one cares about this, because the boy scouts are lame. Seriously, just go away.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2013 -> 08:07 PM) Well, one thing's for sure, if Danks gets lit up...some will definitely question him because of the Marlins' line-up being mostly AAAA fodder. Conversely, if he pitches a gem, he'll be likewise doubted...what will happen when he faces a real line-up, like in the AL East? Kind of a no-win situation, in many ways. If he pitches well, great. We get a win and Danks gets a very solid tuneup.

First thread I found. Their move today is not a perfect one, it still pretends that gay men are more likely to molest young boys than average and that when you turn 18 you vanish... But props for a move in the right direction.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 23, 2013 -> 05:35 PM) Thank you. I've been saying that for years. AJ's durability is a big asset and many here did not appreciate that. I predicted Flowers' defense would suffer once he got banged up a little by playing everyday but even I didn't expect it to happen as soon as it did. Flowers' defensive prowess was overrated by many here, possibly because of the point you made about him being Peavy's personal catcher. I always thought AJ's defense was unfairly underrated by some because of the fact that he played banged up day in and day out. At any rate, Flowers has been no defensive upgrade over AJ. Again...if this is the case, if playing while too banged up is hurting him and hurting the ballclub, why on Earth is there a backup catcher on the roster?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) By the time they decide to call him up, he will have cooled down. The same thing happened with Viciedo a couple of years ago. Call him up while he's hot. Of course, if a guy is going to "Get cold" while in Charlotte, that also probably means they have more to learn.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 23, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Makes sense. They're losing Naz and have Boozer, Noah and Taj. Two of the three have been injury prone (and really Boozer too up until his time with the Bulls). Pick a guy and groom him to take over Boozer's spot in 2015 if need be. Don't forget that they already lost Asik.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 23, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) How much does Vinsanity have left on his deal? $3.18 million for next year.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 23, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) I really wanted Hardaway to fall to the Bulls but his stock is rapidly rising. Everyone right now seems to be saying the bulls are focused on a big man.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 23, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) Will he get called up or are they going to let him develop? He'll get called up, struggle for 2 weeks, and then we'll have threads saying he's terrible and should be jettisoned and we need to go into full rebuilding mode.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Then try someone like Daniel Webb and just stick him at the back end of the pen (like Nathan Jones to start last year) and see if we can catch lightning in a bottle and work his way into meaningful situations and gain the trust of the coaching staff. The odds are pretty high it won't work and he would have to go back down to the minors...but those odds are probably better than seeing all the Jhan Marinezes, Purceys or Moskoses of the minor league system shuffle back and forth. Webb has barely pitched at AA. You call these guys up too early you can readily screw them up, they suddenly can't get outs and they start overthrowing the ball or tinkering with their mechanics.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) The Sox have no one besides Crain or Reed they trust in the pen. Both Reed and Crain had pitched in the last two days, and four of the last six. They weren't coming in yesterday unless it was a save situation. He probably was also trying to avoid going too much with Jones, as he had gone 48 pitches against Anaheim 3 days before. Extending Omo and giving him a chance to make a statement might not seem logical, but guys can't go every day. We're talking about the 8th inning correct? And the guys who had pitched the day before were Crain, Thornton, Lindstrom, and Reed, correct? I.e. if it had remained a 1 run game, the most likely guy to get the 9th inning would be Jones?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2013 -> 07:29 AM) Victor Martinez & Alex Avila's combined OPS: 1.122 Miguel Cabrera's OPS: 1.144 I thought Victor Martinez was guaranteed to start putting up .900+ OPS numbers immediately upon return?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 22, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) Yup. Mike Trout retweets a lot of good things said about him, but he DESERVES them. Trout can go ahead and acknowledge his success. Hawkins should realize he is having a real terrible season outside of the glory stat, the HR. I think he sees all that love on Twitter and thinks he is doing something right and could be thinking "Who cares if I strike out 50% of the time, I am hitting home runs", and that's a horrible attitude to have. However, as noted, he's 19, so it's not a big deal. He'll learn. Again, I think you all are reading way, way too much into the twitter patterns of a 19 year old recently drafted kid in the low minors. Whoop de doo, he retweets people who say his name! Doesn't that also drive twitter traffic to their page? Isn't that also doing a favor for the people who are tweeting about him?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) Do you think Mark may just retire if he keeps getting rocked? He seems like a proud guy to me. Of course some crafty lefties have good years and some bad years. maybe he'll ride out the storm. Not with how insanely backloaded that deal was. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) Santiago was throwing 94, 95 and even touched 96 on Saturday, according to the Angels' broadcasters. This is all on the White Sox. They never should have started him. You don't have him throw 40 pitches in a side session and then start the next day unless it's the playoffs/World Series/emergency situation. Who else was available? Seriously, you can't just say don't pitch Santiago, who pitches?

Very unlikely trade rumor involving PK, JC, HS

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/news/stating-obvio...-185800682.html Picking up Utley, Howard (if Konerko can't ever come back to form) or Ruiz would all be typical KW mid-season moves in a year when they're in the race and within hailing distance of first. All World Series champions/veterans. Utley wouldn't be needed if Beckham can hit at least 650 or 675 OPS-wise, but who ever knows how he'll do from one year to the next? Ryan Howard has 3.75 years and $100 million remaining on his contract.
