  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 03:44 PM) How can he be that far off? He thought that was going to be a HR. And it led to the two of them saying how Beckham is going to be a star. I think the "star" ship has sailed on Beckham. He is a fantastic fielder, average at best hitter. He's hitting like a star this week
  2. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) ya just saw someone tweet: Kerry Wood “only” had 8K through four innings on May 6, 1998. Samardzija has 10K through four today. And didn't last 6.
  3. Now our guys are hitting the ball hard but having it stay in.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) "North Korea has lined up nuclear weapons, pointing towards the United States. Take this as a stern warning, MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN!" -Seth Meyers on SNL I feel like my memory of the pacific ocean seems to include something useful...
  5. Sale got hit hard there, a real hitter coulda had that out.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) i'm amazed you guys haven't figured out that SS2K and Balta are the same person...just two different personalities. I keep wanting my own taxes to go up, then I realize they're too high and switch names.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 07:39 PM) I think Kepp will be fine. It's only been a week. Give him a little time to adjust to ballpark, pitchers, weather, etc. Still, give him the day off tomorrow and play Conor again.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) \Even when government employment was skyrocketing, workforce participation was dropping. Well yeah, a drop in workforce participation starting in the mid-late 2000's was predicted in what, the 1960's?
  9. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 07:05 PM) I don't see him hitting at the big league level at all really. Can you tell us why?
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 06:36 PM) Ouch, the Red Sox sure made a bad signing when they picked him up for 80 million. Don't worry, the guy who signed him is doing just fine.
  11. QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) The very early story on the Tigers so far is mediocre starting, mess of a back end of the bullpen, but winning because the offense is bailing them out. The Yankees being really awful helps.
  12. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 05:44 PM) King Felix, ha. I give you, King Axelrod. They brought pretty similar fastballs today.
  13. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) Fan-freaking-tastic! If Reed is who we think he can be, that'd be pretty big for this club. When he wore out in the 2nd half, people forgot how dominant he was in the first half.
  14. How is that 2-1 pitch a a strike and the first 2 weren't?
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) I don't understand how teams justify paying that kind of money to one player. No one player is worth being paid 1/3 of the payroll of some entire franchises. I guess if the team has insurance it's OK in some cases. Look at Pujols. One year after signing ... is he worth it? That shouldn't be 1/4 of a team's total salary, that's the key. With Pujols, he's not 1/4 of a team's total salary. King Felix at $25 million would be 1/3 of the team's payroll this year but they also have room to grow that...and perhaps more importantly, they also, like every team in MLB, will have an extra $25 million+ in revenue next year from a national TV deal. If they had a competitive ballclub, starting next year, they could readily afford $125 million+.
  16. Yeah, that didn't seem like Matt's ball
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 03:38 PM) He made a good point, that looked very Freddy Garcia-ish That's not necessarily what would worry you. A freddy garcia like pitcher throwing 90 mph can win a lot of ballgames. What worries one is paying this to Freddy Garcia: 2014 28 $22,857,000 2015 29 $24,857,000 2016 30 $25,857,000 2017 31 $26,857,000 2018 32 $26,857,000 2019 33 $27,858,000
  18. QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) It appears that Felix is going to go the way of his idol (freddy garica), thats alot off his fastball. As a M's fan i would be concerned That fastball was remarkably slow today. Worrisomely slow.
  19. Yeah, get Conor in there again tomorrow.
