You're crossing up the two different guys. The guy with the leg strain is the one who might be ready by opening day. No schedule given for the guy having surgery.
  2. Construction, engineering, operations...and a pledge to raise worker wages, which is of course entirely in his purview to do. But that would be working constructively, which is why he can't do it.
  3. Is New England likely to take a QB at #3? Because I could definitely see Arizona thinking about moving the #4 pick for the #9 and an extra pick.
  4. I both can't believe it and I also can - this is such a crappy, 1980s way to try to get your way. "Pay me money or I take my present and leave" darn well should provoke a "Here's a map" response. If you want a ton of public money, and I'm a public official, you better darn well be selling me on the positives not threatening me with the negatives. Give me estimates that say putting $2 billion into this site will produce $4 billion in new tax revenue. Give me something that says how many high paying jobs it will create, show me how you're going to raise wages for everyone in the area. I really do hope government has learned to spit on threats like this and reward people who work with them constructively.
  5. Does the mayor actually have any influence here? The state government controls the sports funds, right? The TIF for this land has already been created so there's already money put in to develop it if development goes forwards. Is anyone asking the mayor to do anything right now? If not, then it makes sense for the mayor to take no position on things as the mayor doesn't want to piss people off on the other side until they have to make a real decision.

No. You should always, always, always be practicing correct form on even the basic things. That's literally what spring training is for. We have seen in vivid detail what happens when you drill on basic things to death (2012 White Sox) and when your manager goes to sleep and you don't practice these things (2013 White Sox-on).
  7. Well with all of the details you have provided here and the well reasoned, sensible argument I'm sure everyone reading your post will be impressed and convinced.
  8. There's no way you're getting high density development around the current joint. Too far from downtown!
  9. I'm impressed by how silly this is. The White Sox have approximately zero experience developing and marketing the following things: hotels, apartments/condominiums, retail businesses not related to baseball, bars, full service restaurants, outdoor green spaces and parks, parking garages, major city developments, major environmental rehabilitation projects. Having Related involved in this effort gives it credibility as possible. If they didn't exist, the White Sox would be trying to find other companies to do this.

Was this a prospect or a signing? I literally cannot keep 70 names straight right now.
  11. Obviously injuries could change this with as many old players as they signed, but I’m expecting like 5 guys pruned from the 40 man to make room for vetz at the end of spring training. He’ll be replaced by Pillar and Moustakas if they’re healthy.
  12. He might be there eventually. For now, he can try to have a really good spring and play for a roster spot here or somewhere else, and what are the odds Eloy gets hurt in the spring clearing an opening day roster spot? 1 in 3? Checking Korea, the average player salary there is like $40k a year. He can make that in like 10 days on a MLB roster:
  13. That assumes the White Sox don't need his 40 man spot. Frankly, after all their signings, they probably want it for a veteran.
  14. No, he doesn't. He has zero value. Currently he would occupy a 40 man roster spot for a team like Baltimore that likely doesn't have room for one, so taking him back is a net negative for them. He is likely to be on waivers in a few weeks to make room for others, teams can easily see how many NRIs the White Sox brought in to replace him.

I mean, last 3 years it's 5.4 fWAR vs. 1.7. but yes, DeJong has been a more reliable fielder.
  16. I don't buy this at all. I've done my fair share and have numerous others I'd like to do. Yankee Stadium I haven't done, Pittsburgh is excellent and worth a trip to, I'd like to get Cincinnati, St. Louis, Baltimore, San Francisco is at the top of my list for a game, I've hung out in that area repeatedly on days when there are no games. Dodgers Stadium is a fun experience since it's so huge. Most of the excitement at Minute Maid was due to this weird banging coming from the home team dugout, I wonder if they ever figured out what that was, Danny seemed bothered by it.
  17. Yes, but only for this year. The Red Sox basically are paying him $10 million for 2025, with a tiny sweetener of "maybe he can throw a few innings in late 2024."
  18. If I had a lease on a car that was ending, and I took out another lease on a new car for similar money, would I consider that a new expense?
  19. Extending the hotel tax is very different from creating a new tax or asking for funds from the current state government. A TIF, as on this site, is very different from extending the hotel tax, and that is also very different from creating a new tax. You can find the gory details of the last version of that here: https://www.lib.niu.edu/1988/ii880851.html
  20. I literally can't tell. They haven't put out anything that justifies or supports any number. They could be asking for the full $1 billion, no idea.
  21. I do not believe Reinsdorf owns this land. However, I do think that they had this as part of their proposal that they outlined when they released the renderings, they noted that this land could go back to the city for Redevelopment - either a different sports venue with logistics already built up, or alternatively redeveloped to be part of Bridgeport (housing, businesses, etc.)
  22. Depends on how much they ask for, from who, and where the money is going to come from.
  23. Oh no there were many, many, many things that caused problems.
  24. There’s your answer, he knew it would leak this week anyway so he was hoping it would be a non story by Monday. Assume he’s an out of touch businessman stuck in the 80s and surrounded by yes men. He doesn’t believe the public can help him, he only wants every cent he can get, and. He expects to bully the state government into caving with threats of leaving like he did last time. So we play the 6 months ago charade or meeting with Nashville for leverage, we put together a plan with some positives, but we don’t do our homework or try to get the public on board at all because they don’t matter. We will threaten to leave and they will cave. You leak stuff like this on a Friday so that it’s a non story by Monday, after all it appeared in the Saturday paper and that’s how people get their news. Fits as a nice version of events to me.
