Brent Morel rehabbing back in southern Cali

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 02:05 AM) There you go again, dealing in absolutes and drama. Sigh...... QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) "I think he's finished". Greg, I'm not quite sure if you were aware of what an absolute statement is. Your first statement is an absolute, your second one is an opinion. I'm not necessarily picking on you because you're most definitely not the only one who does this, but it drives me, and apparently others, nuts when someone presents something as an absolute when it is only their opinion. This is how a person gets percieved as a "know it all". It's ok, the Sox have lost more games than they won recently, so it's back to being cool to say that things are forever doomed. -
Oh, really, you mean bouncing a guy from 3b to 1b to 3b to the major league bench to 3b to minor league 1b to RF to LF isn't the best thing for his confidence? I would never have guessed.

John Danks diagnosed with a grade 1 scapula tear
Balta1701 replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 12:27 AM) Right now, you'd have to say the Tigers are still the favorites. If they can keep Fister healthy and get Smyly back from the blister, and get Avila back 100%, they're going to be a tough out...no matter how bad Valverde's been pitching. However, if Peavy keeps pitching like this and the team starts to fall out of, you see what you can get for him and use the 2nd half to audition virtually everyone in AA/AAA for next season. That also gives you a better idea of what to do with Gavin Floyd. What you've basically got to assume to say the Tigers are the favorites is that the Tigers will stop being hit by injuries and the other teams will continue to be hit by injuries. Which you do here. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 03:11 AM) http://radiology.rsna.org/content/213/3/709.full So it's a slight tear of the subscapularis tendon in his left shoulder....Grade 1 One of the articles on-line says "Danks has a torn tendon" and that sounds a LOT worse than it apparently is. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/13272636-57...g-shoulder.html The out indefinitely part isn't encouraging, though. Trib key line. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Stewart was no great spec to begin with..............Sox owe him nothing. Who on Earth has said the Sox owe Stewart anything? -

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 09:43 PM) ...... http://thebaseballcube.com/players/profile...Zachary-Stewart Those 21 appearances don't count? No, 20 appearances when he was a reliever full time before Toronto ever converted him to a starter and moved him down 2 levels to completely restart developing him as a starter do not count. He has 1 start at AAA. Hell, he has 230 innings as a starter, total. He doesn't deserve to be in the big leagues, but unless you can explain to me why we need 4 spots on the 40 man and why he's more useless to the team than a guy like Deuente Heath, who even has a prostitution thing in his background, you're just going to keep pissing me off and makign me think you know nothing about baseball when you call for a guy to be DFA'd out of spite. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 09:38 PM) Kenny and the garbage picking approach to roster management. x player was great 7 years ago and is or might be designated for assignment. Yes. What we should really do is go after Youkilis. That description doesn't apply to him at all. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) Way Stewart pitches he is not giving the Sox many options.............His numbers are just brutal. Great. He's never even been at AAA before. So put him there and give him a year or two. He has plenty of options. -

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) Do I really need to spell it out that Stewart has put up terrible numbers for three straight years (minors included)? Yes he could buck all of his career norms and turn into something serviceable, but then again unicorns could fly out of my ass off into the Chicago sunset. Great. So what are you using the 4 open 40 man spots for? Otherwise it would be insane to DFA a guy who has options left. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Can the Sox trade Stewart for Youklis? The Red Sox would take it if the Sox took on his money. The White Sox would be stupid to do so. -

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) IF HE ONLY DIDN'T GIVE UP THOSE THREE HOMERS, HE'D BE PITCHING A GREAT GAME!!!! DFA him. Sigh. Do I really need to spell out how stupid it is to DFA a guy for no reason other than you're frustrated again? -

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 08:50 PM) Apparently Axelrod is being called up tomorrow according so someone on the FutureSox board. I'd imagine Stewart will be Charlotte bound after tonight then. And if they're sending Stewart down, presumably he's staying there for a while. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 12:34 PM) Here you go Balta: http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/news/20...up-to-235k.html By the way, I finally got to look into this today. There are 2 things out of this that have actually gone up relative to inflation by a lot. Food and clothing costs have gone down a lot. The things that have gone up...health care costs, which have skyrocketed relative to inflation since the 1960's, and Education/child care costs. Education costs have gone up since more people go to college and states stop paying for it, child care costs have gone up on average because more kids wind up in child care as compared to 1960, there are quite a few more households with 2 working parents.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 06:05 PM) They said that his injury could take anywhere from 8-12 months to heal, and even then who knows when he actually will trust the knee. They need to build the team as if he isnt coming back next season, and if he does it is all gravy. I dont expect him to come back in January at all Even if Rose came back in January somehow, it's extremely unlikely he'll step on the court and be an MVP caliber player. If nothing else it'll take him months to even start getting back into basketball shape, let alone getting things like timing, jump shots, rhythm plays back down. If he came back in January, there's a good chance he wouldn't look like Derrick Rose at all during the year. And if Derrick Rose never looks like Derrick Rose, or Derrick Rose comes back in January and finally starts looking like Derrick Rose around playoff time, we'd still have to deal with the fact that the team would be going into the playoffs having never had Derrick Rose winning games for them, and probably with Luol Deng having missed 2-3 months for the wrist surgery...which means if Derrick somehow was back to his old self around playoff time, the Bulls might still be going in as a 7 seed, or worse if Boozer got hurt like he does every year except last year. Granted it's a 7 seed no one would want to play...but even if things went well, the Bulls wouldn't be lining up as playoff favorites, or even favorites to get to the conference finals.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) Dempster to the DL with right lat tightness. Perfect timing for Theo, who had him all but traded already. Did he actually have a deal about done with someone? I got the impression that it could be a standard July deal for him. If that's the case, this woulnd't be a bad thing, give him some extra rest before he's traded.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) That is not even considering the cost of keeping people out, and the benefit of saving that money. You're not allowed to count that $20 billion a year, because stop asking questions, that doesn't count.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) It.doesn't.work. Read some history. It didn't work because the underlying problem, quotas imposed to keep the dirty races out that were too strict to meet demand for work, was not dealt with.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 04:42 PM) I would love to meet them and to get 20 minutes in a room where I can light their hypocritical position up like a finely rolled blunt. Honestly, I woudln't blame anyone who came to this country legally who was annoyed at any process that was established that fixed the system. They'd have a right to be annoyed, given the red tape. But that isn't a good justification for keeping it broken.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Not if you can get a similar player who is 7 years younger. If you can do that sure...but IMO, that pretty much relies on the team taking on Deng making a mistake. If they do that, great.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Because 2012-2013 is a wasted season, especially with Deng needing wrist surgery. Now is the time to get younger and cheaper. The sad thing is...because 2012-2013 is a wasted season, it actually kinda makes sense to hold on to Deng, since Deng is likely to miss 1/3 or more of the season too...thus whatever trade value he might have to a team looking to compete next year is similarly diminished.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) Right because you completely ignored the analogy. Slave A is a criminal who broke the law, exactly like an illegal immigrant, who then was freed, even though they broke the law. it's ok, the slaves were defying an unjust law, whereas determining that 170,000 immigrants is the maximum number allowable into the country during a given year is a just law based on an exacting, reasonable standard, which totally has nothing to do with race.
