QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) Let the bans and power mongering rain down on you all Just remember who kept that board alive on life support all these years...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 10:48 AM) Oil futures fighting $80. Gas futures under $2.60 in front month, down in the $2.20's out a few months. That could indicate sub-$3 gas in the fall. Philly Fed manufacturing report collapses in June. If nothing else, that'll keep your gas prices low.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) There are rumors Bynum is available for the right deal... What about Deng+ for Bynum and that Noah for Evans and #5 rumor.. As I stated before I like the fact Evans worked with a "shot doc" then improved his shooting significantly after. He's also versatile, he played PG and SF last year and can obviously play SG, with that if Barnes is off the board when we're up at 5 we can grab a Bradley Beal and play Evans at the 3. I'm fine with keeping things the same, but I enjoy speculating as well. Biggest problem? Bynum is an unrestricted free agent after next season. I still have trouble seeing how it makes sense for the Bulls to play for next season if Rose misses 2/3 of the year and is never 100%. Thus, the net result of this deal could be "clearing cap space and getting no players in return, while sitting on Rose's big contract and having nothing to show for it".

KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) Those guys were all B level prospects coming up, except for Beckham. Which is exactly the point. If you hold these guys in the minors at the point where they belong based on age, they become A level prospects. That's what other organizations do. The White Sox instead have pushed them rapidly upward. If you had Sale in AAA last year, and he put up a sub-2.50 ERA, he's going to be on everyone's top 10 list in baseball coming in to this season. If you put Viciedo in AAA this year and he put up a 1.200 OPS, he'd go into next year back in everyone's top 20. You could also add Daniel Hudson to that list, since he got that treatment as well, but that one is too painful for me to contemplate again. -

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) KW has never really had stellar talent to deal. I'll let y'all draw your own conclusions on that. Chris Sale, Gordon Beckham, Dayan Viciedo, Brandon McCarthy. One reason why we haven't had top 10 prospects to deal is illustrated right there...we also push guys hard up to the majors, rather than letting them sit in the minors where they would move up the prospect charts. Based on ages, Viciedo could still be in AA and not be too old for the league, Beckham could be in his rookie year and not be unexpectedly old. -

Something has to be done to improve the rotation

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 09:06 AM) I think Loria was hoping for a title run and then finding a buyer to pay a premium price. It's not the first time they've done that. Take a look at the contract they signed Delgado to: 2005 (Marlins): 4000000 2006 (traded to Mets): $13,500,000 2007: $14,500,000 2008: $16,000,000 2009: $12,000,000 That's 5 years, $60 million, with the latter 80% being 4/$56. The Marlins sent along $7 million to make the deal happen. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 08:56 AM) Sox attendance and how it means the Sox can't spend a dollar if they only have $.50 hasn't been a topic since 2005? The Sox were a top ten revenue team last year, and may have dropped a little this year, but even with the attendance not being very high, they probably are in the upper half in terms of revenue in MLB. If they want to use attendance as an excuse not to add payroll, I think its weak. I wasn't expecting any payroll to be added anyway, and I think the majority of Sox fans thought like me. Crying poor hasn't brought out the fans. They need to try something else. Is it possible that the Sox believe having their GM make statements about attendance to put pressure on their fanbase is actually an occasionally effective way of pushing attendance/revenue higher? As has been pointed out repeatedly, even when KW cries poor, he usually immediately responds by taking on a Peavy/Rios/Vazquez level contract. So even if he's saying they're poor, they don't use it as an excuse to avoid adding payroll, even if it's just a relaly big gamble to try to fill a need. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) If people thought 4/$58 was bad, what will they think of 3/$51? The Marlins are counting on someone taking that on. They wouldn't have written the contract that way if they weren't. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) Selling Quentin and Santos for less than they probably were worth. We were lucky to get what we got for Carlos Quentin. -
That 0-1 pitch to Johnson was nasty. 93 mph going down.
-
H. Christ, the ball hits the Cubs pitcher and it goes to the SS, the ball hits the Sox pitcher and no one can get it. ARGH!

Good looking curve to Lahair...

And then another of those crappy hits just like what cost us last night.

I was all set to compliment him on a good inning too, then the walk.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 07:25 PM) It's not like Horry was a great player, plus he was a rookie in 94. Their #2 scorer was Otis Thorpe.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) That was a joke. I see.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) Is Gordon a restricted free agent? This year, yes, so qualifying offer to him. If he really doesn't want to play in NOLA, which is also possible, he could play out the season on the QO and become an unrestricted FA, maybe for even more money if he has a good year. After only playing 9 games this season, that might not be a bad idea on the surface anyway, unless he believes he can't stay healthy.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 06:25 PM) Perdo Hernandez & Simon Castro should get it done. The Padres literally gave up on Simon Castro last year and the Sox are trying to rebuild him. It would make very little sense for them to want him back.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) Brent Lillibridge, Wil Ohman, and Zach Stewart. Next question In Byrnes chair, I'm holding out for Mitchell + one of the Sox's young relievers at the least. Headley's under control cheaply for several years, there's no reason to move him for less than that.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 06:12 PM) And kudos go to the Tigers and Brewers for changing the operating models of those franchises and modeling themselves as much as possible after the Cardinals. The Tigers are seemingly in a position of regularly losing money on big contracts because they have an independently wealthy owner willing to do that. And now they have 3 DH's as a consequence.
