  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Ryan Sweeney to the Red Sox as part of the Bailey deal. Well, he's an upgrade on JD Drew.
  2. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Indeed. If Reddick is involved, then that means they have a top 100 listed guy, who was at an MLB-ready level, which was btw what KW said he would want back in deals if he gave up pieces. But he's also not a starting pitcher, which obviously holds some extra value. I'd sorta call Reddick close to balanced with Molina, if the Sox scouts are right on Molina at least, and he's got a rotation future. So, what else is in there...
  3. Going to be quite interesting to compare to Sergio's deal.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) Well none of us know for sure how the market for SP will look a month from now. The only thing that seems likely is that the supply side of the SP market will decrease as we get closer to spring training. So if there are still a few teams with a demand for SP at this point and the number of suppliers has gone down, it would be reasonable to expect the cost to acquire SP to go up. This is just basic economics. Obviously I don't know how many teams will have pitching to trade or will be looking to buy pitching by late January. However, IF the market shifts in the right direction for us and a team is desperate enough to offer us two quality SP prospects I'd take it if I were KW. I'm not saying this will happen and I'm definitely not saying this offer is on the table at the moment. I'm just stating that IF I can eventually get such an offer IN THE FUTURE then I would be willing to trade Floyd. That's the price it would take for me to move him now. Otherwise, I'd probably wait to the deadline to deal him. He's our most valuable tradable asset and I'd like to use him to get some young pitching. The other thing that has been happening rapidly is that the demand side of the pitching market seems to have vanished as well. The Nats, Rangers, Reds, and Angels have added the SP they needed, and Boston and NYY just haven't gotten into it at all, seeming to prefer sticking with what they have or to look for bargain basement additions. Personally, I'd say that compared to where things were in November, the demand for SP seems to have dried up more, thanks to guys like Gio and Latos appearing on the market when people didn't expect them to be. If we go into the season as-is, then the kind of offer we'd be willing to accept for Floyd is going to depend on what the team does. Unfortunately, we've already seen recently what happens when we try to wait on the market for a pitcher to develop, we wind up resigning the guy because the trade market didn't develop. And frankly, that was for a better pitcher, even if there's a cost difference of $10 million between the 2. Hypothetically, if an offer appears that is significantly better than what is available now, then I think we'd all be willing to move him...but right now that isn't there, and counting on things to get better seems to run counter to current trends.
  5. The Bears still have need of a WR and Williams can be effective...but the drops simply kill him. Even if the Bears bring in an extra WR and just want to move Williams to the 3rd WR role, he just doesn't do anything in particular well enough to overcome the fact that he can't hold onto the ball.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) I think he said IF about 50 times in his post, and said that there probably wasnt offers out there to that extent right now. You just repeated a stance that he acknowledged. If I write a post that is based entirely on "If Alex Rios develops a work ethic"...I have a feeling people would scoff at it.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I think Balta is on repeat again... Do people really think that there are these great offers for our guys that KW has gotten that he's just sitting on? Didn't the Danks extension pretty much prove that isn't the case, that the offers for our guys really haven't measured up?
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) Iowa is so NOT worthy of that money. Time for a different state, or better yet, several states, to be first. Don't worry, in a week they'll justify all this faith. By voting for Ron Paul, hopefully.
  9. Right now, if that kind of deal were out there, I think it would have already happened.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) I still think we need to move Floyd if we can get two quality SP prospects for him. What realistic sign have you seen that this is even remotely possible right now? If there were "2 quality SP prospects" available for anyone on our roster, other than maybe for Alexei, do you think we'd be moving on that? If these offers were out there, we'd have taken them for Danks, for example.
  11. Fatty too.
  12. D'OH.
  13. Can you guys be more lazy?
  14. Nearly 1/2 of the campaign spending currently happening in Iowa is being done by super-PAC's. ~$5 million worth in December alone.
  15. 3 other things worth remembering, in terms of the long-term pitching staff. 1. Kenny Williams will probably trade for more pitching at some point. Who knows when. 2. Betcha we spend our first round pick this year on starting pitching. 3. Most importantly, Cooper was just extended. Which means we always have a shot at another diamond in the rough, recovery, Humber/Contreras/Loaiza style.
  16. Perry campaign files suit for ballot access in Virginia. Perry Campaign's legal argument centers on the fact that Virginia has banned paid signature gatherers from working in Virginia unless the signature-gatherer is also eligible to vote in Virginia.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) Johnson had shoulder surgery? That's not good for a guy who already wasn't a hard thrower. There is a labrum in the hip also.
  18. You're down to 362 shopping days until next year.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 06:40 AM) Don't forget Axlerod. He's in that "underwhelming" category where until he comes out and just seizes a starting spot and refuses to give it up, people are just going to keep expecting him to give it up.
  20. QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) Tendering Frasor made sense. He's a very reliable bullpen arm. If not for the Sox. Then via trade. Teams are always looking for late inning help, esp. healthy guys with proven track records. If Frasor is still with the sox, by the trading deadline, he'd likely be well sought after. My guess is both the Yanks and Red Sox would like to have an arm that's had success pitching in the AL east. If the Sox wanted to move him now, they'd likely have a decent prospect in return for him The problem right now is that the market for relievers is well below what Frasor is being paid. If the Yanks or Red Sox wanted a RH reliever, they could have signed one of equal/better quality to Frasor on the open market for less money.
  21. Last year, they had to be benched. That's the definition of "all in". This year, if they struggle again, whatever your do, the goal becomes to help them either come out of it or retire. If that means they play through it, we lose the games, we're no longer going all in to win. The problem last year waste went all in to win with the roster and money, but the manager didn't coach all in to win. This years manager needs to coach for recovery.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 27, 2011 -> 06:04 PM) lol. That wasn't his intention at all. But if you're going to take one game that Rose is efficient and be like "AHA!!!, see, he's efficient." Then be prepared for a response after last night's suckfest. Rose's efficiency is something even the most homeristic Bulls fan would like to see him improve upon. One game, good or bad, isn't going to tell much of anything. Need at least a good half season to see if he's improved in that area. Judging anyone from this season is going to be a mess.
  23. One reason why Dwight Howard may want no part of the Bulls is that Howard and Rose are both signed to Adidas, and that would be very much disliked by that company.
