2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) The thing is if Sale is a #2 starter and Molina a #3 the rebuilding will be a lot quicker than people think. Speaking of Sale, I think it'd be a good idea to approach him with a long-term contract offer. He's already gotten through a full season and a half. It's already to the point where it's not that sensible for him to sign that Matt Moore kind of deal.

Pujols to LAAA
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) Albert's a monster, but a declining monster. They were 10th in the AL last year in runs scoerd, but is Kendry Morales supposed to be healthy? That'd be another beast to add to the lineup. The Angels were already first in the AL in ERA, so adding CJ Wilson just made them even stronger. I think the argument is probably valid; that's a very strong team. It's a very strong team, no doubt. They look like the strongest team in the AL West. But Writing them in for a guaranteed WS seems like it would work as well as writing in the Red Sox last year. And I don't think Morales is supposed to be healthy.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) Yaaaaa the Angels are the best team in the AL on paper now, not sure how anyone can say that they wont win a WS in the next 10 years. You're already calling them the best team in the AL?

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) In the details available to Yahoo! Sports, Paul goes the Lakers, Pau Gasol to the Rockets, and Houston still sends Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, and a 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets. The main changes in the deal, originally nixed by the NBA, will come between New Orleans and the Lakers, sources say. link So they just leave Odom out of the trade? If you want to pretend that you're an owner with an honest complaint about that deal, the honest complaint would be regarding the amount of money that the Hornets would be taking on. If you can pull off draft picks or youth instead of Odom, it might not win you as many games but it would improve the financial position of the team (and leave the Lakers with less obvious stuff to trade for Howard).

Drawing a Texas Congressional Map
The U.S. Supreme Court has stepped in and issued an injunction against using the re-drawn Texas Congressional Map. The real problem is that the filing date for campaigns is later this week. Thus, candidates won't know what districts they're filing for if they actually try to run, unless the injunction is lifted in the next couple days. More likely is that there is several weeks/months of legal maneuvering to go, and this could well wind up forcing texas to delay its primary election.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 05:48 PM) KCJHoop K.C Johnson According to source, #Bulls just pulled Keith Bogans off the practice floor. Story soon at chicagotribune.com. Yeah.... we're not picking up your $1.7 million option, bro. Zero reason not to pick up his option, right? Don't need roster spot, he is an expiring deal, and the money doesn't cut into the MLE.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) Sooo if OZ threw the season by starting Rios does that mean if De Aza outperforms Rios in spring training De Aza should get the start in CF? If not is Ventura throwing the season by starting Rios? If the goal is rebuilding, then Rios needs to play everyday until he can be traded. If the goal is winning games, then a player should only play if they play well enough to beat the next in line.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) Very similar to what they did with Evan Longoria. Smart move, as long as his arm holds up. $14 mil guaranteed isn't a big loss even if his arm doesn't.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) With the Marlin's new look? I think he can continue winning 14-15 games a season. If I had to pick from two choices, win 17 or win 10, I would take 17. Do you really think he will drop to 10 wins per season? Unless the Marlins have signed Fielder when I wasn't looking, they're still no offensive juggernaut.

Sox Winter Meetings thread
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) LILLIBRIDGE is drawing a lot of interest. Probably teams think that he can start. I say trade him if you can get a good deal for him. I'm a big fan of havi the elf get more playing time, but with dead weight Rios, De Aza, and Viciedo out there, there's not a lot of room for him, so I'd move him if I got a reasonable return (something more than minor league filler)

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) Exactly. Players rule this league and Dwight has all the power. If he wants to go to LA to form ANOTHER f***ing big 3, he will. Didn't CP3 make it clear he wanted to go to te Knicks?

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) Obviously this depends on the state of the team at that point. Obviously if someone is willing to take Jake, it means he's been pitching well. If he's been pitching well, that means the team might be winning. If the team is winning, it may not make sense to trade Jake just to save $5-6 million. If somehow the team is actually winning then Peavy could be holdable, since his contract ends. Dunn and Rios need to be moved of at all possible even if te team is winning.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) Phil Rogers' column says it all. This is on Kenny for bringing in stiffs Rios, Dunn and the injured Peavy. This is all on Ozzie for letting his team come into the season woefully unprepared 2 years in a row.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) He'd have to be 13-1 with a 2.45 ERA or something of that ilk for a team to even consider him. And even then that's a huge stretch. Even at half a season, he'd still be owed roughly $12 million or so (that includes the $4 million dollar buyout). If the sox have to chip in a good chunk of his contract to move him, they should do do as long as they save something.

Pujols to LAAA
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) I assume the Cardinals realized that he was going to be gone as they were not going to pay him over $22M a year for 10 years. That lineup is still pretty good and the rotation is solid. Oh and they have $20M to spend. I don't believe they have that much to spend on anyone but Pujols.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) Fielder is still out there. Cards would be nuts to win that bidding.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) I disagree with that. They are still in a weaker divisioon with a pretty damn good starting rotation. If Freese, Craig, & Jay can improve on or at least maintain their 2011 seasons, they will still have some bats. Obviously it's not the same lineup, but they aren't suddenly the Astros. Would you rather rely on Freese, Craig, and Jay, or Beckham, Rios, and Dunn to be key offensive producers. That Holliday deal in particular now looks awful.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) How so? There's a ton of options out there that will be much cheaper and might allow them to upgrade at other positions (I could see them going after someone like Adam Jones for CF in a trade) There is nothing out there which will come even close to replacing that level of production.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) Blessing in disguise for the Cardinals. They dodged a long-term bullet, in my opinion. But they are also completely screwed in the short term.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) At his age, the right moe is the biggest total contract possible, even if the deal is longer. He won't get $30 million more when he's 37. I can't believe that none of these teams are at $250. Well, nailed that number.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) Man, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I'm not sure which team you're following sometimes. JR bankrolled this $127m team because he wanted to win. There's no way he didn't lose a ton of money last year, and there's absolutely no reason to believe now that this team will win as constructed. Why would he lose more of his money on a losing team? We should be grateful he's willing to lose money to take a chance in the first place. You can't just keep adding big money to bad teams. It's entirely possible that the team broke even last year.
