  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) The contract offered to Pujols was backloaded as well. I think Loria is hoping to win, make a ton of money, sell and let the balance of the contracts be someone else's problem. If this team flops and attendance doesn't remain high, firesale in Miami. This is exactly what they did with Carlos Delgado's contract.
  2. Mets receive $40 million "Bridge Loan" while they continue to search for a minority purchaser.
  3. But I bet you could find some who would disagree.
  4. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) So he probably was tested very shortly after starting a cycle. And if he'd been tested twice already this year, that kinda makes sense, as he probably wouldn't expect to be hit with a surprise test during the postseason.
  5. Hmmm, Stults threw 50 innings for the Dodgers in 09, might have caught him on TV, that's probably why. Lefty, started a few games for them, but doesnt' have great numbers against lefties in his career. It is org fodder from the LH Reliever side, which seems like something we're piling up.
  6. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Some minor moves I haven't seen posted: SS Ray Olmedo and LHP Eric Stults were both signed to minor league deals. Olmedo is obviously a Triple-A filler. Stults got a spring training invite though. I could see him battling for a spot if/when Thornton is moved. Not exactly what I would call impressive... Where have I heard this name before?
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) I have no doubt the Marlins will have a massive sell off within 5 years. The fact that they missed out on CJ and Albert actually makes this easier, IMO. Selling a 35 year old Pujols with $150 million left on his deal might have been pretty rough.
  8. KC all but makes official
  9. Bobcats pondering placing a waiver claim on Billups, Billups has threatened to retire if he's claimed by a team he doesn't want to go to. Please claim him Mike. Help us out.
  10. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) I wonder if the Marlins have a bad year or two if he'd be traded somewhere else. I'd strongly wager this is exactly what the Marlins were thinking when they offered up some of these contracts. They've successfully done it before.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Well what do you expect when you regulatory system is based on 1929? To avoid repeating 1929 in 2008 would be nice, but we failed at that pretty miserably.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) The Giants? Their running game sucks this year. Wow, after checking, the Giants actually have the fewest yards on teh ground and worst yards per carry in the NFL this year.
  13. Indiana is a ranked team for the first time under Crean. 20.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) Aramis Ramirez signs with the Brewers. It's going to be a really nice to get to root for him after having to root against him for 8 years. He's going to be a monster in that park, as he lost more homers than anyone at Wrigley with the wind blowing in. 3 year contract, pending physical.
  15. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) It's frustrating that such a bad 2011 has lead to this. Who knows what would have happened with Buehrle, and maybe the Sox and Danks would have been better suited for a long-term deal. I just have a bad feeling that three years from now Danks is going to be a #1 starter for some team, winning 17-19 games a season with a nice ERA, and we'll be saying, "Remember when..." Every day that goes by without any news or even rumors is depressing. I know it's early, but I really want to see a few guys moved and some good prospects in return. As of right now, all we're hearing is that it is a rebuild and then it's not a rebuild. Something needs to happen soon. If Danks leaves and becomes a #1 starter with another team, that's really an indictment of Cooper, since he's just been flat out unable to develop the consistency he needs here.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) I'd like if Kenny can find a way to get Gardner. Something like Danks, Quentin, + Prospect for Gardner, Romine, Betances/Banuelos. Brett Gardner really doesn't help this team. Even if we remove Quentin, getting Gardner just benches a cheap option we have in De Aza who we don't really know about, and worse yet, Gardner is arb-eligible, is going to be getting expensive this year, and is only under team control for 3 years. He's the opposite of the kind of guy we should be targeting right now, based on the last deal we made.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) The Chiefs have scored 3 TD in their last 6 games. One of those was just a lucky play. Without Cassel, with Tyler Palko at QB, with Jamaal Charles out IIRC, with half their team destroyed in the first 2 weeks due to other injuries, I thought winning any games this year was impressive for them.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Way better package than the Lakers deal Especially with the contracts the lakers were sending over.
  19. QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) It was a really huge win for Indiana. Congrats on that. But it might be a bit early to proclaim that "IU is back". It's been what, 4 years, since Indiana could look a ranked team in the eye in its own arena and say "We have a chance to beat this team". That is now true. They may need a lot of lucky shots to fall, but this is a huge step up from the last couple years.
  20. I really have no idea how to interpret most of what is written here, but a summary version seems to suggest that MF GLobal was legally allowed to use client funds as collateral on various bets, even if they're technically still keeping things "Segregated" in some sense. Someone please rewrite this if I've completely misread it.
  21. I expect you to post at least 15 twitter updates in this thread.
  22. Won't have to worry about that thought for a while.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Here's a question... I wonder if any player contracts in baseball contain out-clauses for the guaranteed money, for illegal behavior or suspensions due to breaking league rules? And further, if any teams have pushed to have contracts that null out all future guaranteed monies if a player tests positive for a PED? I think that at this point it's pretty clear no one in baseball has that out clause. The Dodgers were probably the most likely to use it, they could have saved themselves a fortune on Manroid, for example. My guess is that the union made sure that it wasn't allowed when they agreed to the testing.
