Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) Kevin Butler is the Bears all time leading scorer. Again, point 85 bears. Gould is 70% of the way to catching him (or so)

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Cris Carter. And exactly. The HOF of the NFL is no joke. Here are all of the LB's in the HOF. I dont see Briggs as a peer in this group. Urlacher and Lewis are the only 2 obvious HOF LB's I've seen in the last decade. That 6 player a year limit is really important here.

Danks and Floyd drawing interest
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 08:24 PM) Don't need a 36 year-old first baseman, a 31 year-old SS, or a 29 year-old closer if you're rebuilding. But you need guys who are cost controlled for a long time. So if you're dealing that kind of guy you better get great back.

Danks and Floyd drawing interest
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) Deal Konerko, move CQ or Viciedo to 1B. Might as well. Elf and De Aza both deserve playing time. Holding onto Quentin while rebuilding would be something moderately less than intelligent.

TCQ recovered from shoulder surgery
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 06:52 PM) Not going to get much for him since he's coming off an injury, not too mention a year before free agency. I'd suspect they could get him at a discount if they made him a multi-year offer. And considering you'd probably get 600 PA's out of him over those multi-years (total, not per year), the deal would be great for Carlos.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) How about a Justice "working" in the past for a firm? http://www.abajournal.com/news/article/jus...er_confirmatio/ Come on guys, it's not that big of a deal. Past employment by a group that eventually brings a case before you is iffy. For a judge, there's likely some assumption of impartiality at the moment they become a judge compared to beforehand. But that one sort of has to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, because a whole lot of judges worked as lawyers, clerks, legal assistants, etc., before they became judges, and you can't just have every judge recuse himself or herself when a former employer has a case. But let's be honest...working for a group that eventually brings cases before you is fundamentally different from either working on behalf of a specific law that you then get to decide on after promotion (Kagan), having a family member actively being paid to lobby against a bill that you decide on (Thomas), or accepting favors from a plaintiff who is about to stand in front of you (Thomas + Scalia).

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) Wouldn't surprise me if he did. Wasn't there an investigation into Sandusky in 2002? Perhaps this is what triggered it, and there was a subsequent cover-up. According to the grand jury testimony, the only investigation into him by law enforcement officials happened in 1998. In 2002, the incident was reported to higher ups, and Sandusky was told to stop bringing children from the charity onto campus, but there was no testimony stating that it was reported by anyone to law enforcement (and charges have been brought against 2 people for failing to bring it to law enforcement).

MLB CBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) BNightengale Bob Nightengale Despite progress, there will be no #MLB CBA agreement this week, officials say. Stark says negotiations will resume Thursday evening and could finish up rapidly after that point.

Server to server speeds
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Maybe I picked a poor example, thinking about internet architecture we have the speed individuals can connect through the various providers, then we have a second speed that for example a server talks to another server, how fast can that go. I think he's still right; the choke point is the connection between the 2 servers. A server in my office communicating with the Soxtalk hamsters is limited mostly by the connection speed between them.

Server to server speeds
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) As fast as the "pipe" between the two would allow. They will both have theoretical speeds, but depending on the path it takes, it could be slowed down because a single hop is on a slower connection. Google's speeds are probably far beyond what Soxtalk could handle...but the actual speed will depend on the path it takes from Server A to Server B -- which could travel through 10+ different networks/routes along the path to it's destination. The slowest point in that path is the maximum speed it will reach. If it was geared to run the tests in the same way, the main processing "Thing" at Google would be 1 of the 10 most powerful computers in the world.

Sox could lose Comp pick for Buehrle
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) And the last time this was rumored to be happening, we gave away players at the deadline... How'd that work out? Didn't we win the division the next year?

Sox could lose Comp pick for Buehrle
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) Yeah, at least give the GMs time to plan ahead. KW could've attempted to re-sign earlier or trade him at the deadline. This has been rumored to be possible for quite a while.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) How the hell does NBC not have enough time on their 4th place network to air the entire interview vs just part of it? I wonder if they didn't give the Sandusky Legal guy some amount of veto over the footage that would be aired.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) Right now Green Bay looks head and shoulders above everyone but their D has given up a lot of points, I would really love to see the Bears and Packers play right now that the Bears are gelling to see where we are at level wise. RIght now is about the time when the Bears would step up and play like monsters against the Packers. Problem is, the next game isn't for a while, and it's in Lambeau.

Easy thing that would be effective not being done...and I'm the only one who concludes that it isn't done specifically because it would be effective.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) Wonder if there will be a fight for her to recuse herself. No one can make these people recuse themselves even when they should. That's part of the problem. Both Thomas and Kagan have direct connections to lobbying against and for this law.
