  1. Well, this is not an auspicious start.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) JP gave up on that one. Farmer/DJ are trying to defend him by saying he slowed up to avoid hitting the wall.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) We're going to have a massive jobs program that cuts spending! Technically that might actually be true...if you take people off unemployment and Medicaid by making them employed, you might well pull that off. But I think it will do a much better job of stimulating distilleries.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) Yes, the party that has tried to take the keys away from the drunk driver is at fault according to the drunk driver. So, in your metaphor...deficit spending is the drink...and the drunk driver is the Democrats? I'll pause while anyone who is older than 2.5 years old laughs hysterically.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) It doesn't matter what I want. I don't make the f***ing line ups.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) Actually my logic was that we shouldn't spend all of our money at once on a stimulus program because it might not work. That way we'd actually have bullets left just in case it didn't work. Instead now the logic is that we should have moved ourselves closer to default instead of being intelligent in the first place. And now we sit here with no confidence in the system, and no bullets left to use. We're paying negative interest rates on 7 year debt and have our own currency. The only possible sense in which we've moved closer to default is that we now have Republicans in control of the House. That's the only possible way that is true.
  7. Oh great, really? Could at least wait until Friday where I could either miss it while giving blood or get completely toasted post-blood donation by playing a drinking game?
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) I'm not sure that Milledge gets recalled. No real need for him. Would you rather have Millidge or Rios hitting cleanup today?
  9. Must be, no one else has done it.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) Rios has a .755 career OPS, he's currently at .572 this season. There's nothing wrong thinking he can be that .755 OPS player against Diamond today. You have to figure the averages are with him. No, you don't.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) Of course we do...but I can at the very least see Ozzie saying "I can't start Lilibridge cause he's needed for OF AND 1B now with PK shaky and I need De Aza as the other OF" or something stupid like that. I'm not saying its logical, but I can at least see the possibility of that. Throw Milledge into that group after callups.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) So where is your next post about how many other taxes they pay, and how it is dishonest to post stuff like this? Clearly these corporations can afford higher taxes. Why I saw numbers saying that 99% of them owned either a refrigerator or a television.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) So in other words, it didn't work because the government didn't have any idea about what was going on, but now it does! LOL. Funny how that works, huh. Of course, if you actually follow this logic...then the right move in 2009 was to support a much larger, say $2 trillion or more stimulus package, lasting 3-4 years... Because then you're expecting that the estimate might get revised downwards...and in the event that your stimulus package is actually too large, you push back to full unemployment and the Federal Reserve has to raise rates some to avoid inflation...but you're back to full employment! Somehow I doubt you're going to endorse that logic.

  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) How dishonest it is to try to honestly say that the stimulus did what it was supposed to do, and try to revise it into something else? Because the $700 billion stimulus (which some were saying was too small at the time) might well have kept unemployment below 8% if the 3% GDP decrease estimate was correct. Instead, it had an 8% GDP decrease to deal with. If anyone had the 8% GDP decrease number at the time, then a $700 billion stimulus would have still wound up with projections of 10%+ unemployment.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) Worked is in quotes on purpose. The point of the stimulus plan was to lead the economy to recovery. No matter what statistics the left wants to push to show that it "worked" it didn't work. The economy wasn't able to survive on its own after the stimulus plan that we were promised would lead to things like 8% unemployment. The economy is falling apart again. The stimulus did not work, no matter how many times it is repeated that it did. The whole point of the program is to move the economic cycle into growth. We aren't there. Didn't we go over how completely dishonest this was in the other thread when the updated GDP numbers came out? Somehow I knew that when I said "I never want to hear that 8% unemployment maximum estimate" again because it was based on a plummet estimate 1/2 the size of the actual plummet...I'd still hear it again.
  17. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) Can't do that. Stick to your convictions. That's usually how baseball works, Joe.
  18. Kindly go for Wade's knees first.
  19. By the way, we all know that since Marty is so obviously wrong here, Rios will do something useful today, right?
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) No. Right-handed hitters have an .840 OPS versus Diamond. Brent Lillibridge hits right handed last time I watched. You must not watch a lot of baseball.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) You must not watch a lot of baseball. You must not watch a lot of Alex Rios.
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) I don't like Rios, but for today this is the right move. Unless De Aza and Lillibridge are both hurt, no.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) Stewart's mechanics looks really inconsistent. He was also incredibly wild last night. "Repeatability" is something the Sox are really good at teaching.
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) He hits better against Minny than any other team. .261 average, a whopping .748 OPS.
  25. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) Fear Thome in Cleveland This is correct. Probably the biggest Sox-killer of my lifetime.
