  1. Of course, the problem is...unless you require a corporate entity to take the extra steps, with some sort of rule that requires them to actually check in prior to adding penalties or cutting off service, they have no motivation to do so. You miss the email, you pay the extra fine, and you get a lecture about personal responsibility.
  2. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:40 AM) How's Forte been looking this year? He's on my fantasy team! He's looking just as good as he did last year but he also looks to have an upgraded O-line to run behind and a better backup RB. And probably better supporting QB play as well. He might not get a lot of touches near the goal line though.
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) What Kap was trying to say is abortion is not an easy question. Everyone has empathy for the people involved. The fact that some people will accept abortion for rape/incest is more about empathy for the victim of a crime than actually believing abortion is ok. They themselves may choose to have the baby, but allow an option for others. I'll bet some pro-choice supports would object to a person who used abortion as birth control. After six or seven abortions because she wasn't using birth control, some people may object, Well, that's certainly not how I read what Kap had to say. I think you're wrong on the other half too. I think the whole reason this is a debate in the first place is that there is a lack of empathy on all parts...it's just a question of the person's politics who they will have empathy for and in what way. And that's why this issue is one where there is no easy answer...because you can't have empathy for everyone. If you want to try to have empathy for the child by ending abortion, then either you're having no empathy for the mother, or you're having no empathy for the child who has to grow up with a parent who didn't want them, or you're having no empathy for anyone by viewing the fetus as punishment. IF you try to have empathy for the mother, then it's hard to have empathy for the fetus.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) I'm 6'3" 165 lbs
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) Things like this are the primary reason I never opt out of paper notifications for anything. The back up is really nice to have. "Request read receipt when email is read" It's just like you to demand that you have a government agency, the Postal Service, covering for you.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) [/b] This is what I wonder about... Where did that swing go? With his hand position anything up or on the outer half has to go to RCF. He quit doing it, and his average dropped 50 points. If you listened carefully to Wimpy yesterday, it sounded like he thinks that's exactly what Gordon is trying to do...except that Gordon is overdoing it. He was talking about how Gordon would allow just about every pitch to get too deep on him, he was waiting too long on pitches while trying to drive everything to RF, and therefore couldn't catch up with a decent fastball when he saw it (which sounds like what we've been saying all year).
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Or trading the entire starting line up besides the guys who are untradeable. Well, no, just Alexei, Konerko, and AJ. Can still hold onto De Aza, Morel, Beckham, etc.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) Buehrle Danks Sale Floyd Peavy with Humber as long man in the pen to take over when Peavy gets injured. And yes, I know that's 3 lefty starters, but there's no law against that. Accomplishing that will take a $125 million team salary again.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) That's a great last line. Not a bad take. Should be interesting what the quiet Mr. Reinsdorf will say about this season and the Dayan thing. Also should be interesting how he handles Oz and KW's dual departures. Jerry will say nothing unless he fires both. And he's likely to only have to remove one.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) scottmerkin Scott Merkin Encouraging comment from Beckham, who finished 2-for-4: "Today is the best I’ve felt in a long time... (more) (continued) ... Just really uplifting to have three swings that were just locked in." Watching the game, 100% agree with Gordon there. He moved his hands a little bit higher and adjusted his feet position a bit as well. Was able to both turn on a fastball and double into the LF gap and wait back a little bit and drive another ball to RF.
  11. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) I've also been impressed with Flowers although he strikes out a lot, 20 of them in 55 AB's. That's approaching Adam Dunn type percentages. His %age was slightly better until he faced off against the Angels pitchers. 20 in 55 is a bad number. He won't be able to keep above average performance with that K rate.
  12. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 01:42 AM) The politics comparison was just to illustrate a point. Ozzie doesn't even have to do anything wrong anymore, whatever action he takes will be automatically regarded as the wrong move. If what he does works it's credited to luck, if it doesn't its his fault and he's left soley to blame. You cant really believe the refusal to call up Dayan Viciedo sabotaged our season, especially when our major offseason acquisition and high-potential 2B both wound up being busts. This is why a lot of us said that Ozzie's performance should be judged entirely based on how this season goes. It's the only fair way to evaluate all those decisions in aggregate. If Ozzie wins the Central this year, he's won the Central 2 of the last 4 years and 3 of the last 7. That's a decent record. If Ozzie does not win the central this year, then he's had the most talented and most expensive (or 2nd most expensive at most) team on paper 3 of those 4 years and won it once. That's a dismal record. Wins and Losses are the one thing you can hang your hat on for managerial decision in aggregate. If people are just crediting success to luck, then he can still point at his winning the Central at the end of the year, and I will agree with that.
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) Last I heard from my guy was what I posted here. I heard Bernstein on the SCORE Friday say that the Sox will try to get compensation from the Marlins. I got the impression from my guy that changes would be announced shortly after they were mathimatically eliminated in order to appease the fans. It'd be difficult to get "Compensation" if you don't wait until after the world series ends.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:15 PM) I see from the box that somebody named "D. Viciedo" went 2 for 3 with a bomb and 3 RBIs. I assume he must be some sort of a recent, waiver wire acquisition. Its a shame we couldn't have added a hitter with that kind of line earlier. And he took a walk.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:09 PM) I would have sworn it was him moving to his right, not his left... Bah, maybe I'm wrong but he covered a decent amount of ground.
  16. Yeah...those balls leaving the park. Wow.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) How did Viciedo look in the outfield? Had a good play moving towards the RF line for his first play in the first inning.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) Deep fly or shallow? Ichiro caught it while jumping and his back shoulder bounced up against the wall. The Cell, that's off the wall, maybe over.
  19. great catch by Ichiro. Another good swing by Gordon.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) That's f***ing lame. We heard it in the other thread. People do stupid things, the kid is their punishment.
  21. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) How sick would it be to go on a 10-12 game streak led by Viciedo, Flowers and De Aza... They won't play enough.
  22. What's that, 3 perfect, beautiful swing hits for Konerko?
  23. QUOTE (qwerty @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) The general manager position would practically be nonexistent if this were the case. At least IMO, the General Manager's position is to be the dominant guy in the organization. He should be the decision maker for everything except hiring/firing the GM. Everything baseball related...the roster, the scouts, the manager, the players, should be decided by him. You can have a President above him who also oversees marketing and financial aspects in other ways, but the buck should stop at the GM's desk for the product on the field. If you do otherwise, then you're letting the business side have too much influence on making baseball decisions.
