  1. QUOTE (Cubano @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) ¿Qué? Sexo Cubano??? Wait when you see his arm! The Cuban Missile and the Cuban Tank back to back. This is the Cold War all over again. By the way, USA vs Cuba today in the IBAF 15-16 World Cup. Hello to my good friends in Soxtalk.com. I have not visited you in a long time. Welcome back! People were just asking about you the other day.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) With Rios and Dunn the nation will see .500 as NOT a fireable offense. If he leaves on his own for Florida which he'll do ... fine. He can't leave on his own, he accepted another year on his contract. He'd have to be released from that or removed or traded. And yes, having Rios and Dunn totally underperform on his watch is a fireable offense.
  3. Hawk and Wimpy could not be more critical of Rios's hitting technique there. Breaking it down slow-mo, total agreement between the two, "He's been doing that all year" adds Hawk.
  4. "Alex nursing a sore right hand" - Hawk. All the more reason why he's hitting cleanup I guess.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Meanwhile, Ackley's OPS is almost 200 ahead of Beckham. Sigh. But Smoak, what the heck happened there? I'd assume it involves Greg Walker. Usually does when a touted kid takes a while to develop.
  6. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) What would Obama cut to reduce the deficit and how do you guys feel about him being re-elected if you are a Democrat? Jobs.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) Has the media asked Ozzie's take on Rios batting fourth in some games? I agree it's a big FU as he wraps up his final season on the South Side. If we finish .500, BTW, Ozzie's departure is going to be controversial. Sox aren't going to look good nationally on this one. To go .500 with Dunn and Rios having years like that and Beckham sucking? Some media will say he should be manager of the year. Those are 3 automatic outs. Also there should be a lot of national jokes on saying goodbye to a manager who led Chicago to the rarest of things - a baseball championship. I won't cry the day he leaves but it should be crazy fun. If the Sox finish .500 and the Tigers finish .530, no one will find Ozzie's departure controversial except you.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) How can you say this with such authority, like it's true? This seems like an incorrect absolute to me without a lot of proof. He has not blasted Dunn all year. He said he forgot the outs the other day. Big deal. He has really thrown nobody under the bus in this s***ass season. He supported Pierre during the booing without blasting the fans for booing him. s*** he never even really buried Rios publicly for Rios' laziness. He benched him a couple days. Saying he doesn't support his players cause he jokes about the savior, Dayan, is not right. He hasn't ripped Beckham except saying he can't bunt or whatever he said that one day. It's not right to say Ozzie does not support his players. Bulls***. And yet, the moment Viciedo comes up, he goes after his critics and drags down his own player. He's actually right, Dayan Viciedo is not the savior and its unfair to paint him as one? But would you go up to his face and tell him "You're not my savior"? If you did, you're one hell of a jackass. If you wouldn't do that, why would you do that in the media?

  10. That was me, I expected them to be coated with 11 herbs and spices.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) The Viciedo remark wasn't running down anybody. It was funny. It clearly was. It's satirizing the fact that people asked ozzie questions earlier this year about him expecting him to come up and perform. ozzie's response is to make fun of those guys by pointing out that clearly he won't perform. He's actively undercutting his own player and displaying a lack of confidence in a 22 year old player. It's not that hard to say "He's still young but we need him now that carlos is hurt, we'll do whatever we can to help him succeed". Instead, Ozzie cares about nothing except lashing out at his perceived critics. Nothing has higher priority any more. Not supporting his players, not his team, whatever. He has to deal with a kid coming up and an allstar getting hurt, and the only thing that crosses his mind is "here's a chance to lash out at my critics".
  12. Indians just wrapped up a loss to the Royals, Twins beating up the Tigers early. This would be a good day to win a baseball game.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Unless Danks and Floyd get dealt, I'm not too sure about that happening anymore. Assuming we don't sell off completely...I wouldn't be surprised at all if they traded Danks and then kept 6 starters, with Stewart, Sale, and Humber having to prove things when they get to spring training.
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) Hawk says he's bad when he gets the change up in the zone and good when he gets it down. Last night he was in the bottom of the zone with all his pitches and his cutter was really moving. On this one, he's right. When D1 has good control on that changeup there's almost no one who can beat him, when he can't throw the change effectively he's a mediocre fastball pitcher.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) We were going to be getting a sandwich pick for him. If the deal we got for Jackson is better than that pick, the deal is a win IMO. Getting a back of the rotation starter, a solid middle man, and dumping $5 million for next year is way better than a sandwich pick to me And Jason Frasor is currently expected to be a type B free agent. If the White Sox choose not to pick up his $3.5 million option next year, they can still let him go and offer him arbitration while having him be a type B free agent. Thus, the Sox would be likely to still get that sandwich pick. And of course, there is still talk of limiting or removing compensatory picks in the next CBA, which would make it moot anyway.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Why wouldn't Ozzie put Viciedo at 1B, and The Bridge in RF? Wants to see Dayan's OF skills I guess? Viciedo's been working on being an OF all year. IT might be worse defensively in the OF to not have the Elf out there, but moving Viciedo around defensively is not a smart move, and it's been a bad idea every time we've done it.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) Not making excuses. I think it was funny. Also in the article I read the reporter said Ozzie liked him and came up with the name "Tank." Reporters like Ozzie. The one reporter he called a name is not too good and wouldn't even show up for games. Beckham also used the 'g' word and nobody's running him out of town. They apologized. We'll be getting a boring manager before next season so many will be happy. Oz won't steal headlines in Florida either cause there's not the passion like here. Beckham is not in a supervisory role. And nonetheless, still apologized correctly. Ozzie finds it appropriate to run down his own young players to make his points about how he's right and the media is wrong. This is fully inappropriate under any reasonable standard. A supervisor publicly running down the people that he manages will cause a very difficult working environment, and usually that's cause for removal of that supervisor.

  19. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) Ford was chosen after Agnew resigned. I don't believe Ford was ever actually elected to the position. Prior to that, FDR had swapped in Truman to improve his election chances.
  20. Probably why you guys agree on so much.
  21. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Would Obama - Clinton 2012 increase the likelihood that they win the election? Have presidents who are seeking re-election been known to switch running mates for the second time around? Running mate switches used to be more common back in the days when Presidents wouldn't use their VP for anything. The last time I think it happened was Ford swapping in for Agnew.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) i really dont care what the talk is about the number 1 wide reciever, in my mind it is gonna be Bennett this season and it isnt even close. Not only does Jay love to throw to him in high pressure situations, but the guy is always where he is supposed to be and is really good about taking extra yards. Jenksy, i dont think this line is nearly as bad as you think it is. it is not a great or even good line by any stretch, but it is much better than last season. i think jay will have more time to get things done back there I think Sanzenbacher is going to really help with the clutch-WR performance, especially around 3rd down.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) Won't matter with a swiss cheese o-line, no solid receivers, and a horrible coaching staff. The front line O-Line actually performed well enough last night that the Titans announcers were openly praising them at the start of the 2nd half as having a great night.
