  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) The funny thing is IF the White Sox somehow got hot and finished 10 over .500 the country would laugh its ass off that Sox fans want to get rid of this WS champion manager. I'm not saying this team is capable of getting hot, but I would laugh my ass off at the capper to this s*** season if we finish 10-12 over .500 and Ozzie gets shown the door. Hilarious. p.s. I still think we finish two under but I'm just saying. If the Sox got hot enough to surge to a division loss, no one will laugh at the team firing anyone. 3 division losses in 3 straight year is fireable no matter how good you did 6 years ago.
  2. There is a reasonable possibility that the International Space Station will have to be abandoned in a few weeks following the crash of a Russian supply rocket.
  3. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 05:46 PM) I don't think Cashman and Epstein are telling Francona and Girardi who to play and who to bench. Anybody else remember the "Joba rules"? Yeah, I think Cashman tells people who to play.
  4. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) Weren't THEY the ones responsible for either rebuilding those or approving the plans for whoever did? The Corps does everything. By mandate of Congress for nearly a century, they control that river.
  5. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) Balta, unless you want to give credit to Ozzie for something like Paul Konerko losing his old ST nickname (Palsy) then your argument is basically boiling down to MLB managers not really mattering at all. No, acutally that's what you're trying to defend him with...when you say that it's not his fault when guys on his team bust apart and underperform. My argument is that managers can certainly matter...and based on this year's performance, Ozzie Guillen receives a mark that is well below average, nearly failing. Furthermore, when you couple that failing grade to 2 below average performances in the last 2 years and 4 in the last 5, that record of futility is the single best reason to replace him. That's the only fair way to evaluate Ozzie GUillen's performance on the whole. Wins and losses. And by that metric, Ozzie Guillen is failing to do the job he is paid to do.
  6. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) We have no idea if this is really accurate. But its certainly plausible from what we do know.
  7. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) The team has spent an obscene amount of money on guys who aren't talented (at least not this year). Ozzie Guillen is not responsible for Adam Dunn or Alexis Rios being awful, but he is responsible for giving those investments as much of a chance to succeed as he can. As good as De Aza has been, its not like he was waiting in the wings like a Jason Heyward. No one here has, as far as I know, ever defended ozzie as a great on the field tactical manager. Not even Greg. The defending point for Ozzie was always supposed to be that he'd get the most out of his players. You could look at the projections coming into the season and the team would outperform them, at least by a little. Adam Dunn, Alex Rios, Gordon Beckham, and a host of others simply should not be as bad as they are this season. If Ozzie Guillen's job is to get the most out of his players, he is utterly failing to do so, for whatever reason. So no, it may not be his fault that Dunn and Rios have imploded...but similarly, that cannot be used to defend him, because otherwise, there's no reason to keep him.
  8. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) I know Rios is in everyone's doghouse but the guy has been hittin lately. He has? .222/.556 over the last 7 days.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) Tom Skilling Check out some of these final Hur/Trop Storm Irene rain totals, many of which fell in just 24 hr: 20.40" 9WNW Virginia Beach VA; 20.00" Jacksonville NC; 15.66" Bunyon NC; 14.79" New Bern NC; 14.27" Williamson NC; 13.30" East Durham NY; 12.96" Plaum Point MD; 12.09" Ocean City MD;11.27" Freehold Township NJ; 11.23" Mendon VT; 10.43" Ellendale DE; 10.71" Little Falls Township NJ. To put these #s in perspective, Chi's "normal" annual precip is 36.89". Thanks to the good people at NOAA.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) The Bears have asked Chester Taylor to return to their facility Monday after deciding to release him earlier in the day. According to ESPN Chicago, the Bears' coaching staff wants to keep Taylor, while the front office is pulling for his release this.f***ing.team. This might have something to do with Barber getting hurt last night.
  11. Well, that's good to know.
  12. I understand why people would want that. I will also note that the objection, which I at least quasi-endorse, is that the line has been playing together with this roster pretty much all of training camp. Adding in another guy who would be wanting to start at the end of camp would be a disruption of a group that at least for now is doing its job.
  13. Hey, the Captain is back at 1b!
  14. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) If the Sox have this epic "late run" that gets them back to 1 or 2 games out the day the season ends, it would also be easy to dismiss the run as coming in garbage time. Now that the pressure's off (their chances at the division are pretty remote), you have to take W-L performance with a grain of salt. If they start making a run...and continue that run long enough to put pressure back onto the Tigers...then the pressure isn't "Off".
  15. Especially with Wooten out still, that means they just thought he was a failure.
  16. State of emergency declared in Vermont, worst flooding there in 75 years.
  17. QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) So do you really think KW is the type of person who would stick around knowing he has no power? I dont.. I'm not sure. Turn it around and ask it the other way...is KW the kind of person who would walk out on JR over a dispute about Ozzie?
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) He has had that plate discipline all year long in Charlotte where he was putting up ridiculous numbers. We could have used his bat and patience at the plate at any point time during our 5 month stretch of terrible offense. Gotta disagree here a bit BS...His plate discipline has clearly been improving as the year went on. BB by month 4 9 5 13 14 It was May when he really started raking and taking some walks, and when he went into his July/August injury slump that was when he started taking more walks than ever before.
  19. QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) How is it not KWs fault If the scenario was: KW has no authority right now to fire Guillen because of an edict from ownership, Consequently, KW has no authority right now to force Guillen to follow his instructions (because he can't fire him for open defiance of KW's decisions), and Guillen makes clear that he will not play Viciedo if he's called up, he'll bench the kid like he did last year, and maybe insult/run him down a bit for good measure Then KW's hands are tied from above and below in the org.
  20. The Strasborganizer might make his season debut on Sept. 6.
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) Season hasn't even started yet, and he is (IMO) already the best O-Lineman we got. Link

  24. Current estimates are zeroing in around a $7 billion loss for Irene. That would make this hurricane the 10th Billion-dollar disaster in the U.S. this year, breaking the old record from 2008 of 9 billion-dollar disasters in one year.
